Who said the server was hacked?

That is interesting if true. Wonder how that got out.

Zhoutong. (By hacked, meaning that the password was compromised and it was accessed).

Yes, but was it the server password, the Bitcoinica administration password, the Rackspace management console password?
He wasn't clear, that's true.
Presumably the RS admin console password was retrieved via an email reset, allowing the cracker to then reset the root password on the cluster machines and then log in and fuck things up.

I have repeatedly told people that Bitcoinica is a scam and that Bitcoinica staff should be banned from the forums.

Maybe now people will actually listen.

Bitcoinica is a regulated entity, verifiable by government records. We are one of the most legitimate businesses in Bitcoin community, by any standard.

What is it with all the anonymous/pseudonymous guys on this forum repeatedly attacking every NAMED (and easily verified) individual and company and labelling every project run by those most legitimate operators as a scam?

Insane! Grow a brain or something.

+1

Calling Bitcoinica a scam after they get robbed is like calling a woman a whore after getting raped. Have some class, and contribute something positive to the problem instead of busting out the S word just because something went wrong.

How quickly people forget that last time this happened, Bitcoinica personally reimbursed all the funds that had been stolen. That was a milestone event for Bitcoin, I think Zhou and his team deserve at least a little professional respect and mature response from the community.

Zhou - I'm very sorry to hear of this incident and I hope you guys are able to power through this, learn, improve, and grow.

More like a bank that left their vault doors open and is now pondering over whether or not they should refund customers (assuming FDIC doesn't exist). I got the tag for refusing to refund - Bitcoinica/zhoutong/genjix should as well.

Who says they are refusing anything? I assume there is a lot of postmortem cleanup going on FIRST to prevent other errors.

If that was what happened then it's not hard to imagine how they would get to the private keys of the deposit addresses lol

Also, why is bitcoinica redirecting to meatspin? WTF

I was actually considering investing in your mining operation. Unfortunately, it appears that you do not have the maturity nor the social wherewithal to be trusted with any level of responsibility. Likewise, the title of "staff" under your name apparently does not correlate with credibility.

That must be because you still have their DNS cached. I hadn't opened bitcoinica.com for at least 2 months and all I'm seeing is meatspin... Or may I say, I'm thankfully not seeing meatspins because I don't even have flash installed in my browser.

Calling Bitcoinica a scam after they get robbed is like calling a woman a whore after getting raped.
The woman got raped for the second time now at the same place at the same nighttime wearing the same clothes. Only this time she gets raped by 1 guy, not 3. I’m sure a rape victim would be much more careful in the future. I think this is the problem many people have here.

+1 How is this different from a bank closing its doors temporarily after a bank robbery while the investigation takes place?

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

I guess this confirms the guy got access to the management console, therefore basically to anything they had in their servers.
