Of course github can be hacked. F**in icloud, pentagon and NASA got hacked...

Do you think your bank account is safer? Or your personal data stored by various SSL websites?

That's why we have these long passphrases in HZ, to provide extra security, but the final vulnerability is our own personal computer. That's how i lost everything i ever owned last year. A bored hacker and a vulnerable PC. I've learned from that lesson, upped my security and moved on.

We can't live in constant fear of being hacked. We can take measures to prevent it, but that's about it. If we let ourselves and our decisions be driven by that fear, we might as well give up and be shepherds on top of a mountain.

And @freigeist , this is not me taking a shot at what you say, it's me pointing out that no matter what we do, we can't fully hide. But unless we're billionaires targeted by hackers, or really unlucky like i was, we should be good in the long run Smiley . I trust the web wallet more than my bank having my information. But that's just me...

About security:

Personally, I simply keep my accounts separate.
Inspired by that sad tragedy last year, by the way, I stick to my multi-tier architecture.
Because I want to be able to trust, so I need to be able to trust my own precautions.

Low amounts / would not matter much:
Using any wallet, incl. webwallet (site could have been hacked).

Mid-amounts, and need to access often:
I am using my own local HZ wallet, on my browsing machine (could have a trojan).
Uptodate firewall, antivirus, Java, kept as clean as possible - but there will never be 100% security.

Larger amounts, access seldom:
Booting Linux from a current LiveCD (read-only = no easy way to get hacked);
Blockchain & HZ & Java unzipped from a USB-stick, incl. checking sha256sums.
Usable within a few minutes, once I got that shellscript ready.

If I will ever own really large amounts, I would definitely learn to sign transactions
on an offline machine
(cold storage), so that the privatekeys / passphrases never
enter a computer which is / has ever been / will ever be ... connected to the internet.

Be you own bank = Be your own security department.

AltFolio = Altcoin Portfolio solution || AAsset = crowdfunding, dividends paying = profit sharing Assets on NXT || Newbium great new platform || AssetGraphs = novel GUI to assets & shareholders (won nxthacks2015!) || ABEE = Block Explorer Extension for ETH clones, live on SOIL || Advice = Consulting || assetparser.py and shareholders.py - tools for NXT/HZ asset buyers & issuers || bamm.py || PeerCrawler || PGP || Texts || Github e.g. ChainCountDown, ethjsre |||| /give/ GiveBackLicense /give/ |||| Looking for an affordable crypto advertisement service with adspaces on crypto-attractive websites, contact me, thx.

That's exactly what i'm doing now Cheesy , plus linux as a platform, firewalls on both PC and router (just for the sake of paranoia) and a bunch of other stuff.

SILVER's back-up account is actually a network of accounts for extra security and protection. Those accounts i only access once when i create them, and will access once more in case liquidation of the asset is needed.

Oh, and for extra extra security i clear my browser cache every day... just to be sure

Aaand i take snapshots of the SILVER holder accounts every day before i pay the dividends, in case the account is hacked, so i know for sure who owns legit shares and i can buy them back from those holders.

I'd like to think i learned a lot from my past misfortunes.

How does your asset work? As for the silver concept, the description seems to be somewhat vague, are we talking about game credits or something?
As for the HZ price, well. Look at those hefty volumes in Poloniex. I think being listed there is na advantage for this coin, as a lot of money has been flowing through that exchange for some time now (it has experienced a massive surge, i must say).
Also HZ is being contantly updated, which is an up for me. I haven't logged in for months and now i see i have to download another wallet which is kept pair to pair with the latest NXT developments.

I meant to keep the description vague in hope that i'd be able to attract more people to the HZ slack channel Cheesy . There's just too few of us there unfortunately Sad

So here goes the description:

There is a history and a concept behind SILVER that i think will attract some of you.

Formerly known as MAFIA, SILVER is the newer version of my old asset. I emigrated from NXT because I don't really see eye to eye with what is about to happen with the new update, as well as losing faith in the community because of all the scam assets that roam it.  (sorry NXTers who are reading this...it's just how i feel)

SILVER is a bond-type asset that pays out a daily dividend, of a guaranteed minimum 0.0001 HZ per share. Keep in mind that a share's price is 0.1 HZ, so that's 0.1% per day guaranteed return. Some days it can bring more, but it will never be less. I told myself that the day we pay out less, will be the last day of SILVER and it's time to liquidate the fund. I hope never to get there Cheesy
We just recently re-branded, but if you would like to see our past performance from our old asset, look into acc NHZ-NP96-X2RG-SSR4-G633U , the former MAFIA issuer account, and you can check out the dividends history. Keep in mind MAFIA was paying out on an irregular basis, but the monthly average was 3 - 3,5% . With SILVER we decided to go daily instead.

Our earnings come from options trading on the FOREX markets, and for the ones with experience to such things, we trade 1 and 5 minute candles. I don't use increments for recovery such as Martingale and other casino-type betting systems. I don't bet. I trade, and never risk more than 0.1% of the account value on a single trade.
The asset capital is already well over 25 million HZ and growing each day.

If you want to keep up with the payouts, you can check the following link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1hiNWmUE7oOcymSfnaSvInyU_09ebmzbXaQt-fifunkk/edit?usp=sharing
In case you have any other questions regarding the asset, feel free to ask, or PM me.

And now for the twist in my asset. It can also be earned by playing a game. The game is NXTMAFIA.COM . It's an old school text based mafia game, and i'm sure most of you have played one of these games at one point in your lives.
What happens in nxtmafia is, you play, you earn cash, and you get to exchange that cash with one of our admins for SILVER shares. So what i'm trying to say is, that we managed to integrate a new style of real cash economy gaming into the world, one where you don't get paid in a specific coin, but rather an asset. It's an attempt to teach people about basic investing and compounding principles, as well as familiarize non-crypto users with Horizon and other coins.

We have a few basic tutorials on the website/game called ''crypto for dummies'' , and so far we managed to bring in a handful of people into the HZ ecosystem. We hope that in time, as the game develops, and more players will come to the game, more will learn about HZ and its asset exchange.

My goal is that at one point, SILVER will become a gaming asset that will be used by players of other games as well (not only nxtmafia), and that it becomes a gaming token that pays a dividend for the holder. Of course, for those that have no interest in gaming, it stays a simple bond-type asset that brings in decent earnings on a daily basis. Either way you chose to go, or if you want to combine the two, SILVER is a pure money earner and we hope a unique concept.

So there you have it. This is my baby, and i'm watching it grow each day, and I'd like all of you to be a part of that.

how secure is the web wallet? - http://nexthorizon.github.io/hz-source/

i think its the most secure as you can get with webwallets because the source is loaded from github

but you have to send your password over the internet, right? that can't be safe. with a wallet like blockchain.info nothing leaves your PC, but am I correct in thinking the NHZ web wallet works differently?

also, are NHZ devs going to integrate the ARDOR features when they're released by NXT core devs?

I highly doubt the ardor features will be integrated. There's no need for them in HZ right now. NXT has an unimaginable complexity and the devs are doing a fantastic job with it. HZ has exactly what it needs right now, and nothing more. Michael in on top of it and listens to the needs of the community. We couldn't have asked for a better dev.

What HZ needs is more adoption, not more features. We need more assets and more investors in those assets.

Well, sorry to shamelessly market my asset again Cheesy , but i just paid out 1 week's worth of dividend today thanks to an awesome ETC trade. This is not the first time this happens. Since SILVER started, instead of the minimum 3% monthly i promised, investors were actually paid out close to 20% per month so far. So initial investors are up almost 40% in 2 months.

Of course i can't guarantee this kind of performance all the time, but the 0,1% daily minimum return is well hammered in.

So again, no shame, if you're looking to invest into assets, consider SILVER in your portfolio, plus, remember the benefit of my asset : daily returns

I hope you guys are taking notice of this asset, as an early investor who got lucky finding such an asset is a blessing. To put things into perspective I earned 120k HZ today alone from dividends. This can be verified on silver asset itself. So what are you waiting for take a chance and then realise the risk reward of Silver.

Blessing is a strong word, but much appreciated Smiley

SILVER is not the only asset out there. I can name 2 others that i have nothing but respect for: AAssetHZ and ADSactly. These 2 have been around for quite some time and have been doing a fine job. There! Now i'm shamelessly advertising others as well Tongue Cheesy

Very good.

And let's keep on extending this list, whenever we find new sec hints.

I have just come across a novelty in brand new NXT, which closes an attack vector in using "webwallets"

Quote from: Riker
... In fact this has always been the case your passphrase never left your browser when signing transactions. The novelty of the light/roaming client is that the JavaScript code used by the client is loaded from your local installation thus closing the attack vector in which a remote node could push a malicious JavaScript to steal your passphrase.

Moreover, for the high security/large-amount-of-money-accounts, better use a fresh browser, one without any add-ons/plugins installed!

Aaand i take snapshots of the SILVER holder accounts every day before i pay the dividends, in case the account is hacked, so i know for sure who owns legit shares and i can buy them back from those holders.

There is another reason for that.

Unfortunately the current version of HZ still carries the big drawback that dividends do not show up at all.
That functionality is ranking high on my wishlist, why it would indeed make sense to upgrade to newer code.

Four or five of my investors were puzzled to read my updates about dividends, but then not see the dividends in their wallet.
Fortunately, I had snapshot'ed all balances before and after, so I could at least report those numbers back to them.
I have coded a tool for that.

So whoever is planning to pay dividends - better snapshot all your shareholders' balances before and after.

In case it helps at all, for quick check of dividend payments the HZcharts website shows basic info for each asset including dividends paid, for example SILVER or AAssetHZ. It is basic at the moment but I do plan to keep improving the way info is displayed as people make suggestions.

Good point on that, but given that i give daily dividends, it's tiresome as hell to keep on doing that. That's why whenever an investor asks me why he didn't get a dividend i point out to them to either keep their SILVER in separate accounts and watch their balance grow each day, or simply write down their balance each day for a couple of days just to check. Ofc, now i have a new tool Cheesy

But all in all, for the sake of safety and paranoia, i completely agree with taking balance snapshots if you have an asset that pays out on a weekly/monthly basis.
