I have had one sitting in my parts just did not have the time to try to fix it.    Today I ordered some new thermal paste, and some stuff to clean old one off.  And I will try to reuse the cooling liquid, but have a extra of it in case I have trouble saving all the old coolant when taking apart.

Should get parts twords end of week.  So hopefully it turns into a weekend project.  Guess we will see if it makes it or of I do something else.

Well I decided to do it tonight.  It takes a while to do.  First draining it is a pain.

Well I ended up doing a long but good way.  Took the hashing boards out, then used a cleaning solution, then a purify solution.  Then put a small amount of paste going for even on each chip.

Now I just sit and wait to see what happens.  2 boards worked right off.  Other 2 I'm hoping after the thermal paste warms up will start working.  Worth a shot.

Well it's a bust.  But at least I tried.

Is there anyway to SSH into the C1 and make it where just 1 of the blades will be used?

Hi

It should just run on 1 blade. Like 1 of mine does on 3 blades.

This is the reply from my ticket!

Hi,

unfortunately, USA center has none of the items you are looking for in stock.

Well! Got a lovely paper weight!

Yea I don't think running one makes much sense after thinking it through.   All the blades work but only one fully works.

I will leave it on to make sure it did have time for paste.  But I think this will go in parts pile for my other C1 incase I need parts.  Or I might sell not sure yet.

... how many c1's you have?

Don't need water cooling kit. Just blades and controller? Smiley

For a device less than a year old it's a shocker really!

I have 2 of them. Or 1 that works great and now one that is my part's for if other needs it.

I will check later I cannot remember..... sad since I spent so much time with them yesterday.  Basically 1 works perfect, 2 work half way, and 1 is hard to say.

So I'm going to hook up a kill-a-watt and see what type of power usage it has.  If I'm pulling the 800 watts or so for 600ish GH speed.... it is for sure going as parts or to be sold.

Think it's 200w a blade plus 35w for water kit

When I get back I will check my 3 blade C1.
Guessing 650w for 750ghs   0.8/ghs not the best.

Depending on what your willing to pay I might take you up on it.  It currently runs all 4 blades.... each with new thermal paste and as cleaned before new paste.  1 blade seems to work, 2 show 1/2 chips no x's just only half, other is a wild card. The miner is the blue boards, controller is a green board.

I hate to sell too cheap incase I need the controller board or other parts for my other miner.  But if you have a decent offer feel free to pm me.

Maybe 1 or 2 boards just incase, to have spares for mine.
but maybe in near future sometime. i wouldnt take it complete either as shipping cost will be alot Smiley.

Mine is running fine it's no biggie whit it, just radiator that broke down, so waiting for a new one from EK coolstream , i have one old Thermaltake but just a 120 fan for it, not quite sure if i should mount it meanwhile , i don't think it can hold the temps cool enough Tongue .

I have had a few people interested thinking I am trashing it.  This miner and cooling gear I spent a small fortune on.  I'm not looking to trash it.

I have another one I can keep it for parts.  If a good offer came yes I would sell, but again not looking for parts price and splitting up.

Enquired about S5 boards and controller. About $500 to get part's but no warranty if put in C1 case.

However...
This is what they said at the bottom of the email;

"if you are in no rush we have some nice things prepared for near future so stay tuned."

So I am guessing I am going to get rid of my hash baords but keep the c1 case and do a watercooled single s5

I don't see them doing water cooled again.  I could be wrong on that.  But I'm thinking air cooled in future.

But you are right the parts could be used to make S5 boards water cooled, I know I have seen it on forum before.

I have read through most of this thread in the hope of getting an answer to what I thought was a simple question.

Does the C1 support Voltage Adjustment, and does this allow it to be underclocked and undervolted for better J/GH efficiency?

Here are a few quotes from this thread which explain why I do not have a clear answer.

The C1 seems to have voltage control because Bitmain have released a firmware version that changes the default voltage.

new firmware update posted today one of the changes is increased voltage to 760 This is the fix you all are looking for so I suggest anyone
with flaky performance on there C1's do this update. I pushed my voltage up to match the new update and my miner is running even better then
it was a 745 volts

Some people have then reported that this increased voltage has increased the current drawn, again implying that the Core voltage to the chips is changing.

When my voltage was on 725, watts at the wall was 745-750. I increased voltage to 760 and the watts at the wall went up to over 820. So be
careful when making changes to the voltages. Unfortunately I have a bum unit where it just won't get to 1000TH/s unless it is at 760 volts,
but I have a feeling if I keep it at 800 volts it's gonna burn up real quick.

My question still stands. What does this second firmware do? Changelog, anything, please?

Here's some info. I'll pass on.

The first firmware has the voltage set to 0725, this runs my C1 at about 760 watts DC (after the power supply, multiply by 1.09 to get the
approx. power draw at the wall with my Gold power supply on 120v AC).  My C1 runs about at or above the 1,008 Gh/s minimum at this original
default voltage, temp. reading is about 50.
The second firmware ups the voltage to 0760, this runs my CA at about 830+ watts DC (after the power supply, multiply by 1.09 to get the
approx. power draw at the wall with my Gold power supply on 120v AC).  I believe this was done to guarantee a 1,005 Gh/s minimum.  So if
your C1 is running OK with the first firmware, you might want to try the original voltage to see if your C1 runs OK at that voltage, you'll
save on heat (over 5 degrees less) and power (over 70 watts).

However there are then some people looking to reduce the Core Voltage in order to get better efficiency without success. Here is an example with dogie's reply..

I try to change voltage settings: 0725, 0720, 0730
But power consumption the same - 865-870 Watt

Also I try 100 Mhz/400GH with 0600 and 0725 volt - power consumption is the same: about 335 Watt or 0.84W/GH

But I think that undervolting to 0.6 volt should get me about 0.5-0.6 W/GH

Why volt changing is  not working?

These PCBs may not have variable voltage control.

Another quote from dogie.

Does voltage changing should change power consumption? This is not present in my case.

Not on all S3s, and probably on even less C1s. They don't all have variable voltage control.

So does a C1 have voltage control or not? I find it difficult to believe that some have and some do not. Bitmain have gone to the trouble to have a field to change it and even release a firmware version with a change to the core voltage, and have made no mention that this might only be of use to some people. There are people that report a change in consumption with the increase from 0725 to 0760 and there are others who have adjusted the voltage with no change to the power consumption.

I feel that changing the voltage field does something, but find it difficult to believe that the core voltage is being altered. The pictures I can find for the C1 show a TPS53555 Buck Converter chip where you set the voltage with a potential divider, so I fail to se how this could be being controlled without some additional circuitry that would be visible? Is it possible that another parameter is being changed when the "voltage" is set and this is the reason that people are seeing an effect?

Bottom line for me, regardless of all of the above is. Has anyone actually measured the Core Voltage from the Buck Converter and seen it change when the voltage is adjusted?

Why am I interested? Because I quite fancy a 2nd hand water cooled miner, but only if I can adjust the voltage & frequency down for best J/KH.

The C1 hashing boards are S3 family boards.

So, yes - they are capable of changing the voltage.

I have a C1 Batch 1 and a C1 Batch 2.

The best settings for Under-volting/Under-clocking were suggested by another user:

0675/200      530W      803Ghs      0.66W/Ghs

0760/250      790W       1008Ghs       0.783W/Ghs

I set mine to 803GHs now because it's summer here and heat is an issue.
In the winter, 1008GHs.

Hope this helps

Thanks that is useful. I have an S3 & an S3+ and when I adjust the volts and measure the Core Voltage there is no change. Have you actually measured the voltage from the output of the DC-DC converter?
