This has never happened before right? A fork in the chain?

I think there are too many people long on bitcoin waiting to jump in for it to go much lower and certainly not going to wait 48 hours.

I think there are too many poeple that will sell their coins in a panic and will still make over 300% profit!  Tongue

Yes, it has, and it became a non-issue, just like this one will in about an hour.

One needs an active order placed already to get in on the "cheap" btc. Cause there are no cheap coins to buy in quantity based on the ask amounts currently on gox. Ppl be dumping.

If someone can clarify: Are the prices we're seeing on Mt. Gox "real" or are they going to be reset once the switch back to the old one or whatever takes place?

This has never happened before right? A fork in the chain?

The chain forks many times a day. 1 block gets orphaned each time.
Today 11 blocks got orphaned at once.

THIS HAPPENS

We need a really sappy commercial with images of sad, hungry blocks.  Who will adopt these poor blocks? Send BTC today to the "Feed the Blocks" foundation.

Man, I put like 5 bitcoins on "bitcoin won't have a $5 daily drop before march 15". Not liking my odds now  Undecided

I'd take you up on that bet, but looks like Bets of Bitcoin is down. Sad

They are real, BTC on the exchanges is safe, as they are traded between accounts off the block chain. Having said that, we just experienced a longer fork of orphaned blocks. We had many forks, just not as long as this one. This 11 block fork is nothing to worry about

AFAIK, this is not true for Intersango.

That's because the exchanges stop accepting bitcoin deposit. When they open again, coins in cold wallets will flood in. Tighten your seat belt.
