I think MTG does it's own forex trading, beside the market need. I for instance deposited EURs via SEPA. Why not do it while receiving millions in different currencies?

The order you place for USD will also be effective to all other currecies with MTGs fees added (which is 2.5%).

9.9.2012: I predict that single digits... <- FAIL

I believe it works like this.

In my example 1 EURO = 1.50 USD and Mt.Gox adds a 2.5% exchange fee between currenies.

I place a ask order @ 12.00 USD. This order will also show up at 8.2 EURO. (12 / 1.5 * 1.025)
I place a bid order @ 11.50 USD. This order will also show up at 7.475 EURO. (11.5 / 1.5 * 0.975)

When most orders are placed in USD, it will give a bigger spread at the EURO market because of the 2.5% exchange fee.

If I then place a ask order @ 8.40 EURO, it will show up at 12.915 USD. (8.40 * 1.5 * 1.025)

Guys, you finally found me on MTG/EUR. EUR/USD has it's own rally for quote some time now: )
Anyways, there was some nice argumentation going on on the last 6 pages. Great threat, no need to post a lol cat now. The smaler numbers when trading EUR or GBP also mean smaler fees / bigger spread/ less risk. Now we only need to break this wall at 9.73€ to make it rain. But in general MTG/EUR is less volatile.

Hang on, isnt there the same spread, fees and liquidity with all currencies on MtGox, because they are all pooled together?

Yes fees are the same %. When calculating the min spread to sell and buy with 0% win/loss: I'll need a spread of -0,776 EUR when selling one BTC for 9.70 EUR with 0.4% fee (9.7*0.004*2). But 0,1004 USD when selling one BTC for 12.55 USD (12.55*0.004*2). I think I see a higher probability to exeed the smaler range with market volatility to make profit or stop loss (high frequency). But that might be my squirrel mind speaking.

Didn't S3052 "promise" that the stable period will be over soon?

Like 2 months ago? Roll Eyes

Wasn't arguing against it being stable, just pondering if this 1% drop would have happened if it were not Saturday.

IDK, I have don't have a sub with anyone, this keeps my predictions objective.
The stable period just started, but it wont be here long.

I guess you could view the past 3 months of trading a stable period, 13 - 10 trading range (small range... for bitcoin), and now its almost over.

I believe theirs enough $ on Gox to send us sky high at any moment... news like " Government of XYZ in the process of abandoning their $ in favor of BTC " will result in an sudden spike to 30 with a 3 million dollar wall at 20  Wink

weekend dips are a thing of the past.

I think the only reason there every was weekend dips is because people speculated that a lack of money flowing in on the weekend would mean prices would drop.

so they sold, and lo and behold prices went down on the weekends...
