The Pirate Bay’s forum Suprbay.org is also offline. The same goes for Bayimg.com and Pastebay.net. I hope they can get site up and running ASAP.

I always start my day checking TPB for the latest downloads.
Not happy with this. Really hope this is just temporarily.

Hopefully it will be fine, otherwise it's a sad step towards furthering Googles control... "Ok I need a torrent, I'll google it now that TPB is gone". Why aren't google's CEO's getting prison time?

Pirate bay was decadent with all the porn and viagra ads around.
Even if it is permanent, it won't by no means be worse than when megaupload died, and we survived it.

I agree, all the ads were gross and the pop-ups were annoying. Just I live outside the US and it was my main source for current tv. I can find others, but just takes a little more effort.

I have but it is too slow for me to use outside the USA. Thanks for the suggestion though. That depends on which peers and seeds you are connecting with. I mostly get at least 10MB/s downloads from trusted uploaders. They have several 1GB/s seedboxes that they use for sharing.

I hope so as well. In the past they have been able to maintain the servers and keep the mirror sites running. I guess they nabbed the master servers so the mirrors cannot keep updated. At least it looks like that. It really sucks! The other torrent sites are not as nearly user friendly as PB. I hope it can return in some form in the future.

There are more than 4-5 mirrors for TPB (seen some of them on torrentz and other torrent search engines). Sad it was taken down for everyone not spending tons of dollars on programs/tv shows etc... lets see if it comes back...

http://rt.com/news/212911-pirate-bay-police-raid/Earlier in September, The Pirate Bay announced new cloud technology which made its servers “raid proof,” adding that the 21 “virtual machines” (VMs) were scattered around the globe with cloud-hosting providers.
The cloud technology reportedly made the site more portable and made the torrent harder to take down. Thepiratebay.cr, seems to be too much traffic though.

All proxies are down from the looks of it. Why is everyone making such a big deal about this? They won't and can't die. I'd host it myself if they gave me the software.. http://kickass.to/ is your best option after Piratebay.

I've lost count of how many times its been taken down but it'll just pop back up. Plenty of alternatives anyway. I agree that we need to have a decent decentralised option as centralised torrent sites will likely get taken down at some point.

The Pirate Bay isn't even on a true server anyway. They're typically loaded onto virtual servers and only the front end-load balancer is exposed. The back-end is stored in RAM. The police won't be able to access all the information that contains cloud hosting location, etc. There's only a couple of things I can think of off the bat that would reveal that information, but if it hasn't been done yet then I'm confident TPB isn't in any huge threat of being permanently disabled. The people behind it really know their stuff.

Piratebay was down so many times ... For me it is like a part of a history of the Internet I believe it will be up again but what I know for sure is that pirates are impossible to be stopped. I don't recommend to use that .ee at the moment even if it is legit, there is no official info about it yet anywhere so far as I know. Wait 2 days. Things will go back to normal Kind regards.

im not really sure they should bring it back. recently theres been so many ads its stupid. its turned more into a statement of rebellion showing the cops you cant take it down rather than being about sharing files.
maybe they will bring it back but with the new crew running it i cant see me using it much there are much better alternative these days and the only reason tpb is still around is the name and the media,if theyd have left it alone im pretty sure tpb would have died or evolved by now. much like the laws its now stuck in the past

Your girlfriend likes pirated files more than you? I guess you need to spend more time with her. Maybe it is sign to do that. Why they took it down? I think it has something to do with piracy being illegal...

really sad for anyone who isn't an owner of something they provided for free . There are plenty of other torrent sites and tons of copies for TPB so till it comes back there won't be a "torrent" shortage.

We can only theorise really can't we? But if I were to it would certainly be part of a larger PR exercise and a show of force not only to people resisting the U.S but also to convince their masters who's in charge.

I highly doubt that it is. TPB was run on virtual servers where only 1 part of it was exposed. It had to be found one day. Never know really, but either way, we'll win

I am wondering why gov is doing this. They should already understand that they cannot stop pirates. They can bail whoever they want, they can close as many servers as they want. This will only change the form of piracy. For stronger. I was born almost 30 years ago. In my country in 80's and 1st half of 90's people were selling 'illegal' copies of music, movies and later on 8-bit games with no restrictions. It was 'legal'. Every weekend there was (it is going on till now! ) a huge flee market placed in my city were people were mostly selling VHS, Floppy disks, tapes with games/music/movies. I was buying copied games for C-64 and later on for Amiga with no problem in most of the computer shops from those times. It wasn't illegal. Well.. maybe it was but no one was giving a fu** about it. Later on the new law came and they start chasing pirates with the police. It was let say 20 years ago ... did they won with pirates? No. Now on you cannot buy copied games in the computer shop, but every weekend people are doing this on the mentioned before flee market. It is illegal but for some reason they are doing this for years and well ... only a little percent of them get any fine or smthing like that. Well ... I don't understand why people are buying anything from them when they have/had a Pirate's bay and their own Internet but perhaps for many people using a torrent is just too hard to learn. Better pay other pirate for downloading and burning What was my point ... Ah, yes. Pirates cannot be stopped. Pirates will always come with new ideas. Just stop chasing them ... that will save money (money from our taxes) and their time... Same thing with Tor... I must say that I highly respect Tor idea. But I am not using it. I don't really feel that I need to do it. And with all security issues inside of Tor I choose to not use it. But it is really amazing how does it work and I respect it a lot. Gov cannot stop Tor. They can brake it but ... someone will came with another idea which will be even better. So why they not just leave it ... ? ... Eh. BTW. I hate the way in which gov's system is trying to have control over everything. And I hate democracy. Most of the world is using democracy but well ... it seems to be not working well. It is "we" who are choosing those people who are trying to take control over us. It is "we" who are paying them with taxes. it is "we" who SHOULD HAVE CONTROL OVER EVERYTHING... Sorry for the caps... Just my heart beat 2 times faster when I think about that. Kind regards.

Just my heart beat 2 times faster when I think about that. Kind regards. When I visited China years ago I was blown away by how easy it was to find and buy knockoffs and pirated wares. Somewhere like China (I think) would be ideal as a home base of operations for sites like ThePirateBay. Democracy is a sham. Ideally it was a means for the general population to vote in one of their peers to represent them in government, yet it has obviously been subverted by the oligarchs to serve their needs, while merely maintaining the guise of acting in the best interest of their constituents. Most politicians are not representative of a country's general population, since most politicians are millionaires, while much of the general population struggles to remain above the poverty line. It is safe to say that the peers of these politicians are the oligarchical class who would very much like to remain in (or gain even greater) positions of power and live in the lap of luxury. I too get anxious just thinking about it or when trying to convince people "The World is a Stage" and things are often not as they seem.

Piratebay Breaks Silence:https://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-crew-responds-to-the-raid-copies-and-the-future-141215/Without hearing about the exact issues, we get the feeling that a comeback may be more complicated than most people assume. It seems unlikely that the site will return within the next few days, but if it does eventually come back online people will surely notice.
“Will we reboot? We don’t know yet. But if and when we do, it’ll be with a bang,” Mr 10100100000 says.

I wonder why websites like this is still being hosted in a centralized server. It is supposed to be hosted on a decentralized network using bit torrent like architecture.

So my interpretation of the TPB response is, they are taking this opportunity to re-evaluate their life priorities and probably call it quits.

IsoHunt which has had it's own issues with being taken down, is offering TPB some support. Af first it looked to be just another mirror site, but they appear to be serving new contest. You can read the story here: http://venturebeat.com/2014/12/12/isohunt-unofficially-resurrects-the-pirate-bay/Isohunt was running out of Canada for a long time but was shut down after various court appeals from what I know. They were brought back to life by some anonymous group of people, no clue where it is ran out of now. Former staff of the Canadian version claim they know nothing about the new site, even though it looks to be exactly the same. http://isohunt.to/

How far is the decentralizing thing currently as far as hosting a huge website? Can it handle the enormous traffic that it generates at a daily basis and still work smooth? I had a look at kickass.so and it's not that bad to be honest. Huge loads of seeds.

Why would they do that? If they do decide, how about they share their software with me. I'd be glad to host it.

So the Swedish Police did it?... Can't wait for the real TPB to come back since the other (even the clones) don't feel quite like it... There are hundreds of torrent sites/clones/sources so this isn't so effective IMO as TPB will possibly come back after a while...

Hmm... I wonder if it's possible to implement torrent links in a decentralized blockchain-style manner? The Bitcoin blockchain is just a list of transactions. It shouldn't be too difficult to create a blockchain composed of torrent entries. Some type of rating system could be implemented on top to filter out non-genuine entries and there could be a built-in mechanism for pruning of old or inactive links.
Datacoin seems to work pretty well for data so I'd be surprised if the concept isn't viable for torrents - which are a type of data.

Additional notes besides the timers it looks like Ukraine war zone that it is became the new pirate base Hoo RAH. http://www.koamtv.com/story/27783382/pirate-bay-sets-sail-again-after-servers-raided-in-sweden-are-migrated-to-new-base-in-ukrainePirate Bay Sets Sail Again After Servers Raided In Sweden Are Migrated To New Base In Ukraine This article was originally distributed via SproutNews. SproutNews, WorldNow and this Site make no warranties or representations in connection therewith. Infamous torrent search engine Pirate Bay was sunk again after a server raid in Sweden, but has emerged more determined than ever with servers located in Ukraine. San Francisco, CA, United States of America – January 7, 2015 /MarketersMedia/ — The Pirate Bay was for many people their first experience of peer to peer file sharing on a large scale and became the first place to search for the latest movies and TV shows to download and view for free. For millions of people the ease of access to immediately available, high quality copies of media that was as yet unavailable to most around the world was a sensational resource. The website has been shut down many times, often forcibly, but has now risen again with a new home in Ukraine. Pirate Bay now has its own section on the site entitled ‘legal threats’, suggesting their belligerence toward the authorities has not been dampened by the recent attack in Sweden which saw their servers raided. The database was recovered however and has now been uploaded to servers in the Ukraine which will keep it safe and secure for the foreseeable future. The site is, besides its URL, is the same as it has always been, with simple and effective search options as well as the ability to add files for sharing. Far from just movies and TV, the site also allows people to peer-share video games, books, comics, music and almost all other media. A spokesperson for Pirate Bay explained, “The Pirate Bay can be chased to the ends of the earth, but the authorities will never stop it. It has become an online institution and its existence is mandated by its community of millions of active users, who will always guarantee its continuation in the face of legal aggression. Our new servers in the Ukraine will now enable us to safely serve that community with the service they want, without having to charge them for the privilege.” http://venturebeat.com/2015/01/07/5-signs-the-pirate-bay-could-become-the-flagship-for-an-open-file-sharing-network/Hail Hydra

Yep, it has reverted back to kickass.to Kickass.so was seized by the .SO registry who also blacklisted the scam site kickasstorrents.so, which is not affiliated with the KAT team. It is likely that the registry acted following a complaint from copyright holders although this hasn’t been officially confirmed yet. http://torrentfreak.com/kickasstorrents-taken-domain-name-seizure-150209/

Piratebay went down again. Were they seized again? The Pirate Bay is down at the moment, causing a mild panic among many BitTorrent users. With the raid of last December fresh in mind some fear the worst, but as of yet there is no indication that the site has been hit again. It’s currently not clear what’s causing the problems. There might be a hardware issue, routing problem or a software glitch, issues that have occurred many times in the site’s history. However, after the prolonged downtime earlier this year many people are now fearing the worst. The site’s domain name is working properly and the nameservers appear to be setup correctly too, so those variables can be ruled out. The Pirate Bay currently displays a CloudFlare error message suggesting that TPB’s servers are unresponsive. TorrentFreak reached out to The Pirate Bay’s admin and we will update this article if we hear back. While the main site is down, many of the Pirate Bay’s clones and copies that became popular during TPB’s recent seven week outage are still accessible. Update: Pirate Bay’s .onion address still works ( http://uj3wazyk5u4hnvtk.onion/). This means that the site is accessible over the Tor network, including the Pirate Browser. https://torrentfreak.com/pirate-bay-down-again-150213/

Wow. Looking at the stories on torrentfreak it appears freedom of speech us under some sort of massive coordinated attack from powers the world over. Some headlines: - Pirate Bay Goes Down Again
- EURid Suspends TorrentShack Domain Name After Complaint
- Torrent Sites Shut Down After Swedish Police Arrest Five
- BTDigg and BIllionUploads Disappear Without Trace
- VPN and TOR Ban Looming on the Horizon for Russia
- YouTube Flags Cat Purring as Copyright Infringing Music
- File-Sharing Icon RapidShare Shuts Down
- The Pirate Bay Domains Targeted in Legal Action
- Megaupload Programmer Arrested in The U.S.
- KickassTorrents Taken Down By Domain Name Seizure
Just a few from the first 2 pages. torrentfreak has never had so much news that is so uniformly abysmal and depressing. never has it ever been this bad. i guess the only silver lining is that it will finally put a fire under programmers to figure out how decentralize the internet once and for all. it would be terrifying if i didnt already know how it will end (i.e the same thing that happened when they shut down napster)

The copyright industry will go after the programmers, they've already start doing so. Good luck. People have become accustomed to freedom of information. The moment anyone tries to stop that the resistance will be overwhelming. The moment some skilled programmer finds himself in the situation where he is trying to send some information to someone but he is unable, he is going to start working immediately to resolve that problem.

KickAss has a new domain which is working fine for me for last several months: http://kickass.to/Also, IsoHunt has made a clone of old piratebay site and has released the code to GitHub so that anyone can now run his own copy of the piratebay. https://oldpiratebay.org/https://github.com/isohuntto/openbayAnd the real piratebay is also UP again! https://thepiratebay.se/thank you already exist one TOR link to access KickAss? Not sure what you're asking. You're asking for an .onion link to KickAss which can be accessed using TOR? I don't think it exists.

Good idea to lock this thread since Piratebay is back up and running.

Well it keeps going up and down so having someplace for people to post alternatives is a good idea.

Alternatively tribler doesn't rely on torrent aggregation sights like pirate bay and kickass. It just asks all of the peers that you are connected to if they have the torrent you are looking for and they will forward your request to all the peers they know ect... ect... It's pretty amazing. I wish more people used it. As it is now enough people use it that i can find SOME of the things im looking for some times that way. Certainly no where near all. If more people used it though it would have more of a network effect and everyone could find w/e file they were looking for without any need for services like piratebay.

Rep Thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=381041If one can not confer upon another a right which he does not himself first possess, by what means does the state derive the right to engage in behaviors from which the public is prohibited?
