Quoting:

A pure scalper will make a number of trades a day, between five and 10 to hundreds. A scalper will mostly utilize one-minute charts since the time frame is small and he or she needs to see the setups as they shape up as close to real time as possible. Quote systems Nasdaq Level II, TotalView and/or Times and Sales are essential tools for this type of trading. Automatic instant execution of orders is crucial to a scalper, so a direct-access broker is the preferred weapon of choice.

My point is just to be able to enter a good position or exit a bad one asap, without a time limit. It's bad enough that I can miss such opportunities because I need to sleep or do other things.

That number is nearly meaningless. I've seen swing trading defined as not much less than weekly trades, and I've seen monthly timeframes as well. Similar for scalping: could be several hundred times a day or twice a day. Here's a more general definition, and more what I had in mind:

Quote
A scalper intends to take as many small profits as possible, not allowing them to evaporate. Such an approach is the opposite of the "let your profits run" mindset ...

And the point I was trying to make was: the format of the game (if for no other reason than practical considerations) is asking for a less 'scalping' style trading,  more of a 'swing' trading style. But I'm starting to re-interpret OP's own rules, I should stop doing that.
no, you shouldn't Smiley
This is a community game and try to involve as much people as possible
(that's why I hope Elwar decides to not quit, I'll send him a PM about it to explain why we will require one post every 10 days. (the rule with 3 days as it is now published will change, but I keep it now to 3 for practical reasons)

it was indeed my idea to have more "swing traders" so that this game is also playable by less active people. it first, there was a 24h rule for 1 trade, but some people told me they would not be interested if the "time lock" is that large. That's why I wanted to make the game more appealing by reducing it to 8 hours.

I'm not against changing the rules, but tell me... How would you implement the "2 trades in 24 hours" rule. When do the 24h start? I guess at a BUY order? When the next sell order comes within 24h, when is the player allowed to post a new BUY? 24 hours after the last BUY or after the last SELL ?

Just asking Smiley

The 8h rule is very easy to understand, that's why this is currently being used.

A rule of 'no more than 4 trades in any 24 hour period' is simple to enforce, and would allow for greater 'bunching' of orders.
You get 4 orders for each 00:00 - 00:00 timespan in your local time zone. Unused ones don't roll over. Each day at 00:00, you have up to 4 to use.

(I have no problem with the current ruleset, but I would personally consider this an improvement, as I like swing trading alongside momentum trading.)

I'm out.

Thought it would be a fun game to check in every once in a while on certain highs and lows but I have enough things going on to need to check into a thread every other day.

it's not every other day, just one post in 10 days is enough.

I see, from the e-mail it looked like every 48 hours ("Don't worry, you still have 48 hours to post something").

I am holding until at least $330, then I will consider selling so...didn't have much reason to post.

this is how it will work:

activity checks are every 10 days.
The rank numbers on the scoreboard will be colored green if you posted at least one message between the end of the latest activity check and the start of the new activity check
rank number will be colored red if you didn't, but your rank will be colored red for at least 48 hours. After that, the "penalty" is applied.

Reason? if people aren't "actively holding" their USD or BTC balance, they aren't playing the game. They can just forget that they are playing it and discover in a few months that they are the leader because they didn't sold or bought like all the others did.

So it just required to post once every 10 days Wink
if you check the scoreboard from time to time, you will be notified that you need to post.

I hope this isn't too much of a burden to play the game.

Are discussions about sell/buy moves encouraged here, or OP would like only clean order messages?
If so, I would like to know the reasoning for your optimism, why do you think it would go to $330 before it goes to $200?

At most 2 trades within a rolling 24h window, maybe?

More precisely:

A buy or sell order can be placed only if within the preceding 24 hours at most one valid buy or sell order has been placed by the same player.

Means, you can buy, and then be able to sell immediately afterwards if necessary (stop loss), but then you're out for about a day.

Also means we have to look at the posting date of the last two orders to see if the rule is followed, but don't worry, the other traders will take care of that to rule out cheating by competitors Cheesy
