Interesting project, but I feel you are being disingenuous about how "from scratch" this is. I have read a lot of cryptocurrency source code  and this is clearly heavily based on not only Bitcoin but the structure of the code is essentially identical.

Edit: The client crashed when I put "test", "test", "test" in the alert fields and submitted it.

I would liked to have provided a solution to selfish miners, ASIC's, bot nets and so on in the Vanillacoin white paper but it was not a problem for Vanillacoin until it became a problem. Therefore I have invented a new retargeting algorithm and a consensus driven difficulty mechanism which solves all of the problems above. I will go into this in more detail at a later date. You will be able to see it yourself when I commit the source code after launch.

I am running a test network with a selfish miner and the small guy is getting blocks. Once I have established this as final we will do some testing. I'm going to take a food break and then see if the test network is working as it should.

I've uploaded test network binaries through the main website for Windows 32, Windows 64 and Mac OS X. I do not have the time to make a linux build at this time, sorry.

I am currently mining block 42 so please join me for testing and remember this is only a test so delete any Vanillacoin directories.

I've found a minor bug during the initial blockchain download related to the new algorithm. I will fix it after I get some rest and continue testing.

I've been thinking, what stops someone from changing to source to use all cores of a processor instead of just one? If someone can get away with that then we could have a very skewed distribution.

He's probably not answering you directly because he has better stuff to do like get the wallet working.

You think you are a super clever sleuth who cracked the case but if you took the time to read the whitepaper in the original post you would see that it states quite plainly "The chosen algorithm is Whirlpool".  So this isn't a secret or something that the dev was hiding from the community.  You are like a troll without a bridge.

Hope that by then the initial distribution is fair and the coin is popular. The mining evolves from cpu to gpu and new players come on board. Its a good thing I think and a coin should be allowed to evolve like that. So long as we can make it a fair distribution at the beginning and the coin keeps gaining popularity the rest will take care of itself.
