Is possible to sign a message with any currency or only with bitcoin?

You can sign message with a lot of wallets of different crypto currencies.

What are these signed message that are so important?

By signing a message, you prove that the staked Bitcoin address is yours.
So, for example, in case your account get hacked, you can create a new one then sign a new message with that Bitcoin address so the admin can restore the hacked account to you.

As i said before that by signing a message, you prove that the staked Bitcoin address is yours. Same things goes for the other users.
Most of the time in bitcointalk we use the staked address to prove the ownership of the account but you could use it at any other situation.
I don't have in my mind many examples but let's say you are willing to buy something from a trusted member then another user who try to buy the same thing claims that the account of the seller is hacked so he can buy the item later with another account he possess, the easier way to verify if the seller is the right person is to ask him to sign an old message.
