Nope it's not going to reach the maximum supply limit by those years. Halving occurs every 4 years so that means that every block reward will reduce into half of it.

And in summary, bitcoin's 21 million supply limit will be fully reached around by 2140 ish.

IF this your analysis is based on the market cap and volume, I have doubts that Ethereum and Ripple can replace Bitcoin. Both Ethereum and Ripple have good market cap and volume but I don't think the market value of these coins can not surpass the price of Bitcoin.

I'll pick ETH. It's because I'm very skeptical to its future since it's very useful to the industry of cryptocurrency. Then after Constantinople hardfork, it's expected to increase its speed of making transaction per second and could make it cheaper which is what people are looking in using cryptocurrency.

Ethereum has returned to its original position, which is number two after bitcoin. For me, staying at ethereum is the right choice. I am sure ethereum will immediately fix itself if there is a decline in value.

Why do you think like that? I don't think XRP can beat BTC and replace the BTC position. Bitcoin will still lead the cryptocurrency and will be a king in the market except if there is a new technology which more better than the blockchain technology and can solve every problem that might happen, but I don't think so. And to replace Bitcoin I don't think it exists, because Eth and XRP still can't move Bitcoin, this altcoin can only shift from one another. BTC will not run out of supply in 2026, it will take more time. It's still far away from now. But the difficulty will increase. Anyway, I don't think anything will replace BTC and of course XRP will not. XRP will be a good investment for next 2 years max and latwr you know people will avoid the centralization. It's not possible to be mined at 2026. You are right that the last bitcoin will be mined in 2140 and that's the correct answer. After each 4 years, rewards got halved. Current rewards is 12.5 BTC per block and it will be reduced to 6.25 on 2020 and 3.125 on 2024, thus it will require all the 2140 to be mined all the bitcoin. You can't complete more than 210000 blocks within 4 years. Daily block is 144 only.

Being one of the top altcoins, both XRP and ETH have a chance to compete with each other, but the reality is, it can never replace Bitcoin, knowing that it has become the currency to be traded in every exchange. No matter what place, who tries to tell, it would be hard to replace the original Cryptocurrency. That’s just my opinion.

I don't think XRP have stability price, if you see the price movement on coinmarketcap XRP price have the same with other altcoin even with ETH price. Also, in the past few month XRP and ETH alwasy overtake each other to take second place. At least this is pointed out XRP price alwasy move and this is means you can get also a lot of profit if you have XRP.

I have never used XRP and have heard that it needs activation fees, meanwhile there is no such thing in btc, I prefer btc over xrp, specially that after LN — fees on btc transactions are much less.

Current conditions allow both of them to become BTC main competitors and even allow them to have prices that are equivalent with BTC. if I have to choose between ETH or XRP I think both of them have a chance. but I think it still takes a long time for both to be equal to BTC. even though BTC supply are running out this is only an everyone guess.

Not possible, as I believe eth will still prevail over xrp. I know that xrp is keep developing so as eth. Eth fork will probably the start of improvement. Without Vitalik it doesn't mean it will collapse, also it is not guaranteed that the stabilization will fall down once btc 4million reserve taken out. Until now I still find it difficult to believe any coin is worthy or have what it takes to replace BTC, not even ETH or let alone XRP. I don't think that any coin can replace bitcoin at this moment. Or even in future. There is many reason behind it. It is the oldest crypto based on blockchain. And people trust bitcoin over anything. I'm not sure how accurate it is to compare ETH and XRP with each other. No need to talk about the market value. They are already racing.

Xrp issue is that it's a centralized coin which unfortunately doesn't fulfill the reason behind crypto industry purpose which is mainly based on decentralization. However, on the short term xrp can still be profitable since it's highly connected to institutions which are still in power and ain't going away anytime soon.

Both are great coins and should be invested at preset point if not invested as market is on lower priced currently so easily you all can buy at this price and wait for the bull run to begin. This will be great wealth creation opportunity for people.

even if you wanted profit all you had to do was to look at the market. nowadays that bitcoin is very stable there are lots of altcoins that are getting pumped. take a look at coinmarketcap and you will see today alone there was about 7 altcoins that had pumps bigger than 100%.

 If you want a safe and profitable profitable portfolio, I recommend investing in XRP and BNB. XRP is a huge bank and it is very difficult to manipulate the price strongly. It can bring big revenue every year and this will bring a stable price.

We know that these two coins are competing for the top 2 spot so if you’re a wise investors you probably know where to put your money. I do have ETH and will buy more XRP for the preparation of its future pump.  

I don't think the Ethereum or Ripple will replace the Bitcoin. Yeah, maybe some coins  in the future can replace the Bitcoin. But I think this can happen only after 10-12 years. Mining cycle of bitcoin may last until 2040  but as times goes by the mined bitcoin become lesser and lesser because of dificultty or halving that being set by the developer. And fir xrp and eth i would pick eth since xrp is centralized and majority of coins are being kept by the developer.

XRP will never replace bitcoin because the last checked, xrp was a coin created for the bank and it can be controlled to some extent, this goes against the original plan for which crypto was created, the goal is to be able to do away with bank just has email made us do away with post mail.

Bitcoin is very dominant, currently having a 52% dominant rate, XRP and ETH combine marketcap is only 40% of total's bitcoin marketcap.

market capitalization should never be used in altcoin market because in 90% of the times it is fake as it is with both ethereum and ripple because of their huge premines. not to mention that having a smaller market cap is always better for pumps. for example there are coins today that have ranks above 100 but are getting pumped more than 100%

People we're so optimistic and even very supportive to XRP thinking any possibility for replacing fiat but they'll never realize how it actually work.

Not just difficult but very difficult indeed, while trying to replace bitcoin, ETH already gained back the number 2 spot from CMC, so xrp needs to compete first with ETH before moving to the next level of challenging bitcoin, investment wise both coins can be good as long as you have huge capital and you are

Both are good but i agree with you that ethereum is one a promising and worth to believe. Basing on its high volatility on 1st and second quarter of the year 2018, many are earning by doing some trades. I guess if there is another market price increase it is better to go in ethereum and bitcoin. ETH and XRP are two very different coins and their applications are different as well. ETH is obviously better choice but XRP is not bad either. XRP pumps up very fast and is great to make some money quick by selling into those pumps.

When you understand that their motivations are mostly economic then you can easily understand why they want this, many are mad that they did not bought bitcoin when it was created and they imagine the huge profits they could have gotten if they did, so they want other projects to surpass bitcoin so they can get those profits for themselves but the first mover advantage of bitcoin is so great that unless a critical bug is found in bitcoin then it is unlikely that will happen.

If you analyze its price history, we can tell that XRP is more profitable and in bear times, it did not drop harder than ETH.

When i see the title before open the thread i thought is only a question about what to choose, but after i read i see more and to answer, no never bitcoin will be replaced by ETH or XRP. And i if should choose which coin to get, invest i will choose ETH.

For me, if the price now of ripple as exactly as ethereum coin, then i would definitely choose ripple xrp. But if not, its good to be on ethereum since it has a good potential value and also has the second most volume in the market just next to bitcoin.

ETH line of business is different from line of business of XRP, the first coins are used as payment for smart contract transaction such as  erc20 coins where it serve as s gas fee everytime you transfer any of your erc20 coins while XRP served as payment for cross border money transfer. And for me both alt coins has the potential to exist by their own respective line of business with out competing each other.

Right now I would have invested in Ethereum. It seems to me that this project has great prospects. Ripple is also a good coin, but Aether has more potential.

They both are very different form each other and there is no reason to make difference. Ethereum is a contract based platform. It is the most used and popular platform in this  crypto ecosystem. In other hand xrp is a banking and money transfer related  token. So ethereum and xrp is very different in basic mechanism. But they are competitor in one place that is market cap. Sometime when market is fully bear than xrp crossed ethereum and take the 2nd place. But now again after hard fork of ethereum recover its price and back to its place.

I do not think ever never xrp can replace eth.

There is no way to replace the ETH with XRP. In speed, ETH can beat the other networks but this is not acceptable for ETH network. ETH and BTC have better chance to survive than Ripple.

Until now ethereum remains the best altcoin. with various supports, ethereum has a large community so the price of ethereum can be much more stable. I really like ethereum because it has a platform that is widely used by various projects and this is an added value because ethereum can have a very large transaction volume.

XRP is centralized coin no doubt about that but you seems not to understand that ripple and XRP are not the same product. Although they both belong to same person but ripple is for security and networking provider for banks etc while XRP is a centralized coin build on cryptography and it also serves as a medium of exchange. Any that posses this quality is cryptocurrency.

Therefore, you and Killat are wrong when you said XRP is not cryptocurrency. But, I dont advice anyone to invest in XRP  cause I dont trust much in it either and if you watch the current graph price of ETH, it have the growth with BTC which mean ETH is the best coin to invest in now.


 

In my opinion, ETH and XRP coins have very high potential. XRP currently has a very good volume and is able to compete with ETH. But XRP will not be able to replace Bitcoin because the value of Bitcoin also increases. We will continue to see Bitcoin become the number one coin for a very long time.

I like to agree with that, ETH and XRP are major coins, due it's trading volume and the success of its price.
However, they have different purpose, XRP is centralized while ETH is decentralized, who would survive and be more popular in the future, that we didn't know and only thing we know is to back what coin we believe will give us profit.

I wouldnt bet too much on XRP. Eg. IBM uses XLM for money transactions and already convinced 6 banks to use it, too. IBM has the contacts and market share to push XLM way further into the banking sector.

It seems that XRP in a few months the price will go up and this is only my prediction. XRP provides excellent motivation when this coin is able to pass ETH. This BTC and ETH are still very popular coins until now. But when the XRP is able to pass through ETH and it also doesn't last long. Because ETH returns to show its quality and the coin can return to number two.

Both coins has the potential of being a good quality coin, but for me, if i plan to invest, i rather choose ethereum coin since it is good on long term investment, and it has the potential to increase high percentage because it has the second most volume coin in the market, ranking second just next to bitcoin.

XRP is a pretty good altcoin. but I don't think XRP can replace bitcoin, in terms of price it is also very different, besides that we also know that bitcoin has the biggest capitalization on the market, it's impossible for XRP / ETH to replace bitcoin.

I definitely go with ethereum investment because the trust and stability was for me with ethereum was still much higher so the value also been good for ethereum right now that's why I am choosing this.

As long as you know how things is working from any project that you are investing with, then you are good to go, as you mentioned ETH have a much higher trust and stability while XRP still questionable in terms of potential easily to manipulate, choosing  what you've think is better can save your money, but it should all be balance along the way, as this two projects have a large capitalizations and good market positions respectively, it's up to the supporters to buy which is which they've think is better,.

Probably need to say that most of the projects now may actually seem dangerous in the market but not these projects XRP and ETH, these are projects that show a remarkable development momentum. I think that everything will work out for both projects.

I think XRP still can't beat a big technology enterprise like ETH. A bank never had a strong development in a certain time. But a technology enterprise like ETH does. It can increase to 100-200% if it has a special technology platform.

I think it totally depends how you view both because they have different functions. Both of them are great project. But they are very much different form each other. Ethereum is a platform based token. It's the most used platform at this moment. In other hand ripple is a banking and money transfer related project. They are a well developed project. But still people don't like ripple cause they are centralised and backed by many banks. I don't think XRP is the future.

My presumption is that there will be certain market segments for different coins:
Bitcoin - the original
Litecoin - bitcoins silver, the test network for a lot of development for bitcoin
A privacy coin (like zcash)
A contract coin (like ethereum)

Any other coin thats going to survive will need developers that are actually pushing for new technology.

My answer is ETH and he is categorical, I think and I hope that cryptocurrencies such as ETH will still improve their position in relation to everything and I have nothing left but to just choose ETH as this is the engine.

I’ve never considered XRP for once. And that’s also one of the reasons I have not invested in it. When it comes to anything altcoin, ETH will always be my number one. Ethereum replacing bitcoin might not too happen too soon. Bitcoin had gone too far and it is considered as the main currency when speaking of crypto. It is the first crypto to be successful and to grow over thousands times compared it's original price when it was created.

I don't think XPR can be better than ETH. I find that ETH is a good ecosystem and has a lot of support for the crypto community. Neither ETH nor XRP would replace BTC and for your information don't forget that the lesser the amount of BTC in circulation the higher the price and i believe everybody in here would love to see BTC way above $20k. Ethereum and ripple both coins are top Coins  but These two Coins are fighting for the second and third place in the coinmarketcap. But everything can possible in cryptomarket because these two Coins has high potential and very bright future.Why choose one thing if you can choose everything at once? I also want to note that investing in a ETH is now much more pleasant than on XRP due to the fact that the ETH grows in price better.

Well considering the market cap and price i wont say anything.Both have different uses and of course using ripple for payments and cross border transfers it is very much superior to ETH.Also the time taken and fees is very less in ripple.But seeing the bigger picture I will always go with ETH as many other people will.Ripple cannot be mined and also has a private ownership.And if price of ripple rises then again monopoly will prevail and then the whole concept of crypto or what we can say financial freedom will be at stake.

I think XRP has already beaten ethereum, albeit for a short period. It will be very much difficult to pick a coin between ripple and ethereum to me as both has a promising future and very much potential coins besides bitcoin. The team of ripple is very much active and dynamic which is making its every effort to make the project a success. And ethereum is also equally good. But my tilt is more towards ripple.

Banks will not be able to compete with developing technology businesses. crypto is a new phenomenon but XRP is still a bank. The bank can only keep stable profits on a quarterly basis and it cannot have breakthroughs. because it is also subject to the control of central banks.

Same here man. I though it is about a suggestion whether to invest in Bitcoin or ETH but it turned out something else. I do not believe that Bitcoin is so weak that it will let ETH or ripple outshine it. The appreciation in the market value of the Bitcoin these days is very positive and besides the price rise, there is the market problem that had been a very big problem and Bitcoin is solving that problem so I think that ETH and XRP still need to cover a long distance to reach Bitcoin.

I really don't understand that why people compare with the Ethereum and Ripple. For me the ETH is the most strong altcoin by far because many altcoins using it's platform. There are so many questions that Ripple and ETH will be better. I think they are a match for each other. Losing money at first with ripple is not by daily basis, but rather temporary while crypto market wasn't recovering yet. For sure eth has strong market capacity compared to riplle itself, and the holders of it continued to support this coins because of good platform. We will once this coin surpassed the bearsh trend, and we finally said it was a wrong decision to make.

In terms of the price I think ether will be best to replace BTC as its likely to  get closer to BTC if there is the need for any replacemt. XRP although not bad but I don't see it as a right substitute for BTC. Only time will tell

Most times I wonder why the comparison,  ethereum and XRP  both have different use case.  In my opinion I would say or choose Ethereum, this is because aside it 's use case, it has gained more polularity and acceptance . But look at the amount of XRP tokens, learn what the coin is used for and then compare it with the BTC again. XRP is not a real crypto currency and in my opinion does not belong to be here. This coin does not have a limited supply and it is centralised. On the other hand they are doing a lot of great work to near the mass adoption, but I would prefer ETH without any doubt.

no doubt. XRP cannot replace Bitcoin. i think it is ETH. XRP is a highly concentrated coin. its company occupies most of the coins. ETH has built a vast ecosystem. Many altcoins are built on the ETH platform.

For the better ethereum because their community is bigger and the quantity is supporting and the price of ethereum is just as good as bitcoin so it's good to invest in altcoins for me because their price is fast rising but still be aware of your purchase altcoins to not steal your money on xrp or ripple this token is also good and really longterm and also its community and not just dropping the price of their token because of the amount of holders and too many buyers and none too dumpers I noticed that even if the price drop bitcoin would not be too much to affect the price of xrp.

ETH also cannot replace bitcoin too. Both XRP and ETH are good altcoin but mostly people use ETH because of that ERC-20 tokens and other alts that using ethereum platform, like when you send altcoins you need eth for the fees. XRP is good too but mostly for trading imo.

I prefer both coins both in stability and profit. I made some trades on both and really happy how it turned out.

I will choose XRP before Ethereum because of the its more wider acceptance by institutions outside cryptocurrency industry. The circulating supply is deceiving, majority is held by their foundation and a lot of wash trading is going on with XRP.  Ripple isn't something I would buy for a long term investment but it may pay off to swing trade it during this next bull run.  It has a lot of hype so it may do another 10x and reach 3 dollars once again but that is the time to dump it.

These both coins really had potential and its been a long years live in crypto. Now as you can see they're still stand and try to recover from what they had lose last year but, i dont think they were comparable into bitcoin because we all knows bitcoin has come long way and bitcoin is the first blockchain and the first who made a history that reached $20,000, so for me, nothing bets bitcoin.
