1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: After Bitcoin spot ETF, there is Ethereum spot ETF on: May 23, 2024, 06:03:17 PM
75% is very high and this is almost a certainty if Eric and James increased this by 3x from their original estimations. The prediction market in Polymarket has also increased to 69% from 61%. We can presently be certain that we will witness another pump after approval or a dump of disappointment after rejection or postponement heheheh.

We should expect the worst at any moment. What happened with bitcoin ETF approval should also be a lesson to many. If we recall very well, there were also pumps in the market when the chances of its approval skyrocketed.

and we see Bitcoin break a new ATH due to the hype that the news caused at that time, but immediately after the approval news was made public, we saw a different tune in the market. Such might also happen with Eth, or we might see a positive change too. Any of them, which takes turn, is more than welcome.

Quote
In any case, agreed! I also wish this pump will not stop! If uncle Gary rejects this or postpones, I wish all of the Democratic candidates will lose on November!
Lol, I don't even think they have any other choice than to approve it; there is already so much pressure on them, and they will have to face more if they ever pick up any reason not to approve eth ETF.

They are saying that ETH ETF will be announced around 8 pm UTC today (23 May).
It's almost ascertain now that the ETH ETF will be approved and that's the reason of a strong pump now.
It's quite obvious that ETH price will start pumping hard once the ETF is approved.
Strong inflows will happen over the next few weeks increasing the crypto marketcap harder.
2  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do not gamble with Loan Money~otherwise you will be in danger like me on: May 23, 2024, 05:55:14 PM
snip

I have always advised people not to take gambling seriously but I myself became heavily addicted to live blackjack from stake.com and kept winning and losing. In this case I will not blame the gambling site because they give live cards. I started the game with just $20 but gradually I got addicted to it and wanted to gamble and win bigger amounts by depositing bigger amounts. I lost $1700 playing this way then I decided to play with a much bigger amount and recover all the losses then quit gambling for this I borrowed 270000 BDT ($2180) from the bank and deposited there. But unfortunately I lost them. Now I am financially so weak that it has become very difficult to meet my family expenses and I owe the bank $2180 which will take me a long time to pay off. Now it will take about 2 years for my financial situation to be normal again. Gambling addiction set back my normal life by 2 years. I am a victim of real experience and I am sharing my real experience with you.  Don't make the same mistake I did.  And never decide to gamble with a loan. If you do, your situation may be similar to mine. so beware of gambling

It happens in the heat of the moment. In the process of chasing losese, we tend to lose even more.
I have learnt this lesson long ago and this is why I know how it must be feeling when you took a loan for chasing loses and lost it.
The amount of burden adds up when we have to manage our family expenses but then you should have thought about it before you started gambling at first place.
That would have made you set a tight budget and made you quit when you lost it.
We don't think about the long term consequences we have to face when chasing loses and end up getting in more trouble.
3  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Runes are now worthless and have killed Ordinals too on: May 23, 2024, 05:47:58 PM
Runes are one of the most hilarious* economic systems ever created, after perhaps BRC-20.

1. Someone creates a token with a specific name.
2. Other people can create their own units of these tokens. There is a limit, but usually it's not very low.
3. Then all try to sell their tokens, thinking there will be someone collecting them, either because of the "creative" name, or because it was created on a specific date (e.g. Halving Day).
4. Rinse and repeat (protocol is open, everybody can participate in each step).

Basically it's like "you can create your own money! and you will be rich if you do that!" Are you really willing to waste thousands of dollars of transaction fees for that?

Technically Runes is not much more advanced than Omni/Mastercoin which was created in 2013. More than ten years ago!

If you think Halving Day is special to create your own Rune, think again:

During the halving day, 144 blocks approximately will be created. Each block normally has 1000-3000 transactions. 74% of them currenty are Runes according to this dashboard.
This means probably more than 200.000 Runes will be created today.
Now try to sell them all. Order books will be thick, but only on the ask side Grin

*not in a positive way Grin

What would you say about NFTs from that perspective? It's almost the same thing right.
Yet there are so many people buying and selling it everyday.
People have literally paid millions to buy some random creepy image.
I was really shocked to see such dumb people paying such high amount of money for such shit images.

That post is made automatically using a bot. There is no human posting it manually.
So anything we say to that account doesn't matter because they are using this account just for posting the updates on this thread.

You mean that freebitco.in PR is actually a bot posting stuff ? I thought there was some human behind it but then this account never replies to the people's query but only post the updates / announcements.

Yeah, I mean have you ever seen this account replying to anyone ?
I have heard somewhere, may be on this thread itself that this account is only used for promotions.
They have automated the process of this account posting promotions and that's the reason I mentioned it as a bot.
An automated script is as good as a bot.
5  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Story of my life on: May 22, 2024, 05:11:46 PM
Have you ever noticed or am I the only one?

The more active I become with gambling, the more it drags me back, luckily I keep risking only what I want to lose.

The less active I become with gambling, the more positive it gets for me, not most of the time but my results are simply better than when I was very active.

It's like the casinos are wired to mess with the most active gamblers. I don't know, so far I can only find someone who has seen such before.

A friend who lives far away from me has also said the same, he got tired of gambling because it wasn't going his way but when he started talking it less seriously, that's when he started to get positive results.

Has anyone had the same experience before?

Yes ofcourse, it's simply because the more you gamble the higher chances are that you will lose.
It is because of the house edge that in the long run you are likely to have more number of losing bets than the winning bets.
It might have happened with the most of us and for those who didn't happen to face this are just really lucky.
6  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Lunatic gamblers who says Airdrop rewards are free funds. on: May 22, 2024, 05:06:32 PM
There is absolutely no Source of income that is free but some of my Bitcoin investors friends who are as much gamblers would not want to agree to that.
Currently, there had been several airdrops projects ongoing which participants are earning crypto coins without investing of money but executing some tasks.

So some of my friends says such funds are free money so they are delighted dedicating it to be spent on gambling and when they lost it all, it would be easier to let go because they did not stress to get the money.
Meanwhile... This usually comes a huge amount of money beyond their normal gambling budgets.

To me, they can utilize these so called free money by adding it up to their Bitcoin portfolio or even used it to spend on necessary things instead of dedicating to lavish it on gambling.

There are 2 things here. One is that the money they have received from Airdrop is not free ofcourse.
There is some criteria that they are meeting in order to get the airdrop at first place.
Since they are meeting that criteria, the value of those coins becomes the value of that criteria they have met.
Basically they are doing something to get that airdrop and so it's not free ofcourse.

The second thing is that they can literally do anything with their funds.
Not everything has to be invested because that would basically kill our joy.
If they want they can surely use it for gambling because that way they are having fun.
7  Economy / Gambling / Re: Freebitco.in - FUN Token Investment Experiment on: May 22, 2024, 04:11:00 PM
With Ethereum pumping so hard recently, I would have expected FUN to be performing better. Being an Ethereum token, one of the easiest ways to acquire FUN is by buying it with ETH on Uniswap. A majority of ERC-20 tokens are up double digit percentages in the past 7 days. FUN somehow manages to always defy bullish trends and remains flat, never going much higher than $0.005.

I think the FUN token doesn't have so many options for a positive outcome. Either it will be pumped only during the full-fledged alt-season, i.e. when almost all tokens on the market will be pumped, or the team will announce some new features that will provoke increased demand for the FUN token. Well, if neither of the above happens, the negative outcome, in that case, will be stagnation of the FUN token price(usdt) even during the alt season.

I think the same. I don't think the FUN token team is actively working on any developments.
So the only reason FUN token might pump is if the altcoins pump.
I personally feel we are done with FUN token and the price won't increase much here onwards.
I don't wanna sound negative but that's the reality of FUN today.
8  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Know when to stop on: May 22, 2024, 03:32:34 PM
And that's helps you to make sure that you are still in control,  if you can stop by those reasons that you mentioned then it's a good sign that you are not going to fall into addiction,  not all gambler can stop immediately especially those who are already attached  they will keep pushing even there are things that they needed to consider in order to stop their participation,  those mostly ended up getting addicted and ruin or wrecking their finances.

Yes, I know that feeling because at time I have myself felt that I have been over gambling.
The temptation to hit another bet and then another keeps going on but to be honest, I am afraid of high losses.
As soon as I see I have lost more than my budget, I either empty my wallet or stop gambling for few days/weeks or I stop that session and come back the next day.

10  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Know when to stop on: May 21, 2024, 05:32:57 PM
But I don't think that a gambler will want to quit for entirety because no matter what reason we have, we'd still be back and try to chase losses and to win some as well.

That's the fact. There are some gamblers, who no matter how hard they try, get back to chasing losses even after they have already lost more than their budget.
Expecting such gamblers to quit after some time is hard. Quitting gambling at the right time needs strong will and discipline.
A person who follows his rules is the one who can control emotions and make the right decisions whether it be related to gambling or any other thing for that fact.
Gambling should have a stopping time, but quitting is not simple. Every gambler stops at a given time, some would choose to end the game when they are tired or have something else to do. While others wouldn't mind stopping when their bankroll is exhausted. Personally, I prefer to stop when they is need to handle other tasks. Maybe exercise my brain or build a better strategy. Gamblers who are not comfortable with stopping when needful, may get into problem.

It's also an insidious behavior which later on puts the player into a more severe problem. I think gamblers should be cautious of the type of choices they make regarding a stoppage time. Because the behavior develops gradually and then occurs consistently. Just like in chasing losses, the player doesn't get compulsive immediately he starts going after his losses. Sooner the problem begins to escalate in the player's brain causing him more troubles on the long run. Hence, gamblers are advised to stop at the right time, not when they've exhausted their bankroll.

I mostly stop based on the situation. If I have met my target I stop. If I have suffered enough losses I stop.
If I am gambling and suddenly I get into some other work then I stop. If somehow I lose interest in that session I stop.
So basically, there's not one reason for me to stop gambling but it really depends on the situation.
11  Local / India / Re: How whales convert their crypto to INR! on: May 21, 2024, 05:11:50 PM
Hawala system, obviously illegal in India under PML Act but it runs well and speculations galore, it is commonly used by drug mafias, underworld bosses to run their money.

Whether they use bitcoin, possible but they dont likely use the exchanges that we use. OTC traders exist in different difficult to reach sections of the internet and they are helping such users.

Most of them have hired CAs that are well versed with all these "cat and mouse" chase methods.

Hawala system is still active in India and most friendly country for doing hawala is UAE and UK. But, I doubt a whale will be interested in using this system. As you said they have CAs to take care of the tax I still doubt they will be interested in fiat. Unless they are using the crypto market to convert black to white.

I think Hwala system is the only way of converting crypto into INR but lately there has been so many crackdowns and we are made to believe it's really difficult to do hawala but I feel it's to deceive us and I have heard from people who were once involved in this activity that the raids are pre-planned just like custom catching gold smuggling as we never heard about those who are caught in these activities after few months because they are silently released. Hawala is still very much active and also there are other ways like setting up dubious service based organisation and getting paid for service which never took place. Here the whales will be both client and service provider.

The hawala system is still active and I am sure a lot of people would be using it regularly for crypto related transactions.
Although it's a convenient way for P2P transaction but it is still very risky as it is operated very secretively.
Just imagine you get cash worth 20 lakhs, you can't count it in front of them and so you go to a secluded place or your house and then find out that the cash is fake.
You go back to the Hawala but they don't accept your fake notes. You can't go to the police since it's not legal.
What would you do in such a case ? This is something I have been wondering for a while.
This is why Hawala should be avoided as it is very risky.
12  Local / India / Re: Since we don't have any traffic here. Why not merge all SA board to one. on: May 21, 2024, 04:00:43 PM
I personally feel that combining the neighbouring boards will create a problem for them as well as for us.
It will only become more complicated in the future. So instead of the short term relief, we should pay more attention to the long term pain and avoid it while we can.
The ongoing issue of a lack of merit source and low engagement in the Indian board is something we all have been facing since a long time now.
One of us should try to become a merit source and that is what I think, can lead the Indian board to a better position.
13  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I have some old BTC wallet from 2013 on: May 20, 2024, 03:46:50 PM
What wallet file format do you have from parent's of your friend?

[overview] Recover Bitcoin from any old storage format

If you can tell us about the wallet format, forum members can help you. Don't send wallet file to any forum member who sends you PM and ask you to do this.

There is a wallet recovery service too.

Bitcoin Wallet Recovery Services - for forgotten wallet password

Make some copies of wallet file before you try recover it by yourself or use any wallet recovery service.

It is wallet.dat for early 2013..not really big file, some 70-80kb of I remember correctly. Will have to check when I get back home.

I don't plan the send it, unless it proves to be empty, perhaps someone could use old wallet.

Thanks for that. I will check that link as well.

Even if the wallet is an empty wallet then what is the harm in checking in it ?
If there are some coins in it then you can just intimate his parents about it, they will just be more than happy about it.
Even if it is empty then just consider it as your duty that you are doing for your friend.
What would you have wanted if you were in the same situation i.e. would you have wanted your friend to check out your wallet ?
14  Economy / Speculation / Re: BTC staying above $67,000, will it reach all time high? on: May 19, 2024, 03:55:02 PM
snip

If Bitcoin maintains a stable close above $67,206, it could continue to rise towards the psychological level of $70,000. In a highly optimistic scenario, Bitcoin might even turn the $67,206 level into a support base, aiming for its all-time high of $73,777.

Bitcoin is having a good support currently and is in a consolidation zone.
Only if it breaks through $70k strongly then we can hope for a new ATH.
We cannot accurately predict that because it may or may not break the $70k level.
It might fall from here if the resistance is strong which I think it is.
Be ready with your fiat to buy more BTC though.
15  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: An interesting story and experience of a gambler on: May 19, 2024, 03:38:07 PM
What exactly do you think we call this type of gambler? For he is not only addicted to gambling, but he seem to be also addicted to buying stuffs he obviously does not need, and absolutely not interested in..

Again, alot of money can be made through gambling if one is lucky, but it also can destroy the person if he or she does not, or fail to control him or herself..
Anyways, lets discuss about this, feel free to put your comments below.

He definitely does not have any control over his emotions. Although he bought some unnecessary things he still went ahead and paid off debt and gave his mom 10k which was a good thing to be honest. He also bought some new tires for his car which is also a good thing from my perspective. So the 2 major mistakes he did was buying unnecessary items and chasing losses in gambling and ending up losing everything. The later is where many fail to control their emotions and that is something that the gambler would have learnt it the hard way.

Unfortunately,  I believe my reward points were refunded because of a lapse of automated lapse of time that had passed and not because of support checking there emails. These reward points were my original issue promoting me to eventually find this forum for a solution. Since then though I was robbed of my 500 wager contest winnings which is still yet to be resolved and I'm sure that the issue with that will not be resolved with our live support.

The whole site is probably running on automatic mode which is why you would have got your reward points back.
But this shows that they don't have any intention to scam anyone willingly.
Surely some of you users might have faced the attack and lost your coins but that could have happened with anyone.
Freebitco.in has been known to have a slow response to customer queries but we don't have any other option than to wait patiently until TheQuin replies on this thread.
We don't really have any option other than that to be honest.
18  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto as job salary - Yay or Nay? on: May 18, 2024, 03:22:29 PM
Let's say you have a job that gives you the option to have your salary paid in BTC, ETC, or any other cryptocurrency, would you prefer that or would you rather still be paid in fiat? If you'd prefer crypto payment, which currency would you choose and why?

This would be your hard-earned money that can either grow on its own or shrink in value within a small time.

There are two scenarios here.

Scenario 1: If BTC would be globally accepted, which means even the small stores nearby your house would start accepting BTC payments then I would opt to receive my 100% salary in BTC.

Scenario 2: If BTC is not yet globally accepted, that is the current scenario, in that case I would accept 50% of my salary in BTC and the rest 50% in fiat.
19  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: MemoryDealers aka Roger Ver Arrested! on: May 18, 2024, 02:54:25 PM
If Roger Ver has indeed evaded tax then he would pay his punishment for what he has done.
If they are just setting him up and arresting him, even in that case I don't feel bad about it because of the bad things he has done in the past.
A lot of people have suffered a lot because of him and so he should be punished anyway.
20  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My favorite loser on: May 18, 2024, 02:43:38 PM
Do you also have any favorite losers to bet against for profit?

That's very wicked of you to track a player just so that you can bet against him and profit out of it.
It's funny and wise at the same time. So far I haven't known any such kind of a loser because I haven't had such a perspective yet.
But yes, this looks good from profit making point of view.
