Where can we obtain those PCI-e 2-to-1 Y power cables? Preferrably in Europe. Looks like 1 to 2 are more common. Or sell me yours for bitcoins.
Ask KNC. They emailed their Neptune customers saying they will ship out Y cables to them soon. I emailed them today and they told me they'll be shipping them in the next couple of weeks.

I will have to ask the sellers of these cables if all the pings are active. I am surprised for argument sake that someone hasn't tried using the 80pin higher density ribbon cable to make these connectors to try and cut down on the noise between the miner and the cubes.

I would love to find a place that makes longer ribbon cables for the Titan/Neptune miners.
Thanks,
eBay should have those for cheap. I know seen 3ft for a couple of dollars not too long ago. Try that out Got the link?

Corsair psu is awful
EVGA SuperNova PSU's are pretty good. I have two NEX 1500W on my Neppy cubes.

Remember guys and girls Bitcoin and Litecoin (scrypt) mining is a hobby. For it to be a serious business Bitcoin needs to be come super stable.

Does the person who makes the cables at shakmods.com on Bitcointalk? if so what's his name?

I would advise against leaving your ASIC miners on your balcony because moisture does not fare well for ASIC chips and PCB components. It would cut down the life span of your mining equipment.
Is there any hard evidence this or is it just a theory?

Get yourself a web power managed power bar, so you can reset it easily.

I once though of that idea but I am too afraid to put in balcony, mainly afraid of thief..
You must live close to the ground. It's very hard to steal stuff when you are high off the ground.

A container would definitely be a good idea just to keep stuff out like leaves maybe and such.
Also regarding the conditions in the winter, generally for electronics there is a minimum-maximum temperature and humidity range where they can be operated. I haven't seen anything mentioned about this at KNC website. I personally would send them an email asking whether or not running a miner outside in the winter could do any damage to it.
I would be worried about really cold weather for very low temperatures and maybe some heavy rains due to humidity issues. Wouldn't hurt to ask them as well, they should have the specs about these.
Back when I had my Avalon Mini I used to put it outside in the winter months on it's own, if it was going to snow or rain I would put it inside the door slightly opened. So I was thinking of taking several containers and using them as parts to make one, I was thinking of putting a scoop on the front facing open down and maybe using some fans to pull the air in, this would certainly stop any rain or snow from getting in unless we get blizzard conditions. And any holes I'd make I would cover with screen mesh material to prevent anything from getting. I live 9 floors up (in a 40 floor condo) leaves don't make up this high. For the back I was thinking of making the power/network connection port higher off the ground. And putting slots or holes in the back or the other option would be to put them in the top and put another scoop on facing the back. The problem I have is figuring out the best air flow from front to back or out the top. Thanks,

Hi,
I live in Scarborough, ON, Canada. The fall and winter months are usually pretty cool/cold.
I wonder if anyone in Canada has moved their bitcoin/litecoin mining rigs to their balcony's for the folder months and what they encased them in?
I have a KNC Neptune miner which I want to put outside. My balcony faces west so I can sometimes get some pretty strong winds. I was thinking of using a rubbermaid container and drilling some holes; possible will need to build a down ward scoop on the intake side so that the snow and or rain doesn't get sucked into the container.
Does anyone have any pictures of stuff they have built they could share?
Thanks,
Its dangerous putting in balcony, raining would kill it. Did you not read what I said? I bet you didn't so why don't you go and TROLL somewhere else!

New email from KNC to all it's Neptune's clients: From: Customer Service [ customerservice@kncminer.com] Sent: September 22, 2014 9:04 AM To: me Subject: Neptune - Y splitter cables. Hi All, Over the last few weeks we have received many comments from our community that due to some specific PSU limitations, users could not fully utilise the full potential of their Neptune miner. Over the next few weeks, for every Neptune cube that you own, we will be delivering 1 PCI-e custom made 16 AWG Y-cables straight to your door at no additional cost (5 x Y splitter cables per Neptune) This will open up the possibility to use a wider range of PSU’s that previously struggled to run the miner at its full potential (475Mhz-500MHz) i.e. the Corsair AX1200i and other commonly purchase PSU’s. If you would like any further information regarding this cable solution, please contact support@kncminer.comRegards, The KnC Team. ---- I bitched in their forums like everyone else I am sure about them offering these 16AWG cables to people. To be hones though I didn't have any problems with my 1500W PSU's running at 475W until the stock cables starting melting at the PSU end. LOL - So I am not sure what if any the purpose will be for the Y-Cables. it shows their "generosity", and gives them another excuse to keep delay shipping the orders (neptune, titan and bonus miner). Maybe soon we will expect some news from kfc like "we are busy shipping the Y cables to our loyal customers, and we have to postpone your neptune/titan shipment".... Besides, times goes much slower in KfC. they say "soon", it means "never"; they say "weeks", it is actually "months"... I still haven't figured out the purpose of the Y cables? The Corsair AX1200i won't power a Neptune module without 2-to-1 PCIe Y power cables. This is because the Neptune modules draw too much power across a single PCIe cable and trip the Over-Current Protection in the AX1200i. The Y cables split that power draw across two PCIe ports on the PSU and hence avoid tripping the OCP. I was thinking later the other reason might be because the draw from two PCI-E connectors would be balanced so the molex connector on the PSU shouldn't melt. So I may have to buy a few more 16AWG wires, we'll see.

Why not keep them inside during the colder months and use them to heat your room/home?
Because I live in 700 SQ condo and having them running keeps me up night and interferes with my TV and video game playing. Putting it outside would not along allow me to run the cubes at 500Mhz but it would allow me to keep them super cold.

Sadly I had to take my Neptune offline otherwise it for sure would have caught fire! LOL The power connectors at the PSU end had melted.

I have a bad feeling that there will be 'good' news from KNC today. Like:
Titan Mayor Breakthrough!
We finally managed to run the Titan cubes at 100MH/s each!!! Therefore we are happy to announce, that batch 1 customers will get 3 cubes per Titan.
sooooooo likely.....you are a bitcoin asic prophet indeed me it will be like this 300mh 3 cubes.... but you can mine scrypt-n at our technological breakneck speed of 34mh...(if you buy the 599 ram addition module) "Thank you for doing business with KNC you have made us very rich!" TM KNC The question is do you still have that DOA rate like you do with bitcoin? If you do with scrypt coins then you'll never truly get 300MH/s

Does anyone make replacement ribbon cables for the Neptune? I want longer ones if that's possible? This way I don't have to bunch things together when I start building my outside box to them in for the winter. If theres a place online could someone let me know. Thanks, How long do you want them to be and how many? I need 5. It's hard to say how long I need them as I don't know if there is any disadvantage after a certain length? but if it's possible to get them 2 or 2.5 times longer that would be ideal.
