101  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Announcement - ASIC mining processor by Butterfly Labs on: April 02, 2013, 11:20:52 AM
With no fans on there, I'm assuming the heatsink is doing its job. Maybe it really is just the board itself drawing too much power. I'm not sure why they went with an aluminum finned sink when the idea is compactness. I guess with the original power estimates it would have been plenty and much lighter.
102  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AVALON ASIC - QCool element watercooling thread on: April 02, 2013, 11:15:59 AM
Yes, this design is not good. You may be better off having a company that does water blocks already do this like Danger Den, EK, Swiftech etc. I'm sure they would do custom projects. Danger Den I believe is in US and EK in Germany. There are others, but I've had good luck with both of them.

I'd also highly recommend copper/acetal like others mentioned. I'd recommend not going with aluminum at all since many commercial PC radiators are all copper. You will get serious galvanization.

Basically, just look at what they are already doing with PC water cooling.
103  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [VIDEO] Butterfly Labs (BFL) Bitforce SC ASIC Test on: March 30, 2013, 08:37:55 PM
I vaguely recall Yifu predicting early this year that BFL would encounter this issue and I'm curious about why he thought this was the case.

I remember this as well. Like they ran into the same thing early on.

I got the same email and just came on to post this. It is spoofed from info@mtgox.com but the verification link points to a fishing site instead of the real one.
106  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: March 30th BFL ASIC update on: March 29, 2013, 05:22:36 PM
Once the finished boards gets back from UL, they'll know exactly where the leak is. There is no way in hell that any of their units are going to leave their factory without UL approval, especially now that they're on record for stating there's a concern. Same true for FCC approval, of which Josh stated back in September he was waiting for the results from them then, expected within a couple weeks.

I'm pretty sure they will not have to deal with UL since they are not making the power supplies and will only be dealing with low voltage DC.
107  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: I want to have a serious discussion about BFL on: March 28, 2013, 11:18:41 PM
I have a FPGA single so the ASIC was "only" about $700 down which I put on a credit card. For me, waiting is really the best option. I can't get an ASIC for anywhere near $700 and if BFL folds, I can always do a charge back, especially since I have never done one before.

For me, it is wait and hope for the best.
108  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [3700 Gh/s] DeepBit.net PPS+Prop,instant payouts, we pay for INVALID BLOCKS too on: March 26, 2013, 02:21:59 AM
Hi, I am having a problem where I just withdrew from deepbit and it shows that I did on deepbit but my wallet shows nothing and i checked blockchain.info and it's not showing up there either, I used the address in my signiture. I had a friend send me 0.00001 to make sure the wallet and everything was working at the same wallet address.

Same here. It has been a few hours now.
109  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: What will happens when BFL will fail to deliver during the next 50 days? on: March 21, 2013, 05:55:55 PM

It's called the free market.
Look it up.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_market

Someone on here who wants all the benefits of a free market but bitches when it works against them? Impossible on this board.
110  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: Easy Way to get Free Electricity for mining on: March 20, 2013, 09:04:33 PM
The electricity isn't free because you're still getting it from the plug you numpty, it's like these environmentalists who claim that sort of thing is wonderful despite it coming from YEP coal! Which shows you just how much they really give a fuck about their precious planet.

You do realize that the power plant is significantly more efficient than a bunch of car engines right? Yes, you are still using fossil fuel, but you are using significantly less.
111  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Top 10 reasons why BFL will postpone their April 2013 shipping date on: March 19, 2013, 07:14:29 PM
so... Why so much hate towards BFL from those who bought Avalon? I mean seriously. You should be happy and grateful for BFL not delivering in time. The longer they don't deliver, the more money for you. Instead of mocking BFL you should praise it. Just think if they didn't delay so much, you'd be getting waaaaay less today. Only people who should be depressed about BFL are those who bought their rigs. But they seem don't mind it, or they won't show it. No one wants to demonstrated they made a bad judgement. It is like horse race, you make your bet which horse will deliver first asic... Those who couldn't deside and bought both Avalon and BFL should also be happy. So come on, guys/gals, no need to rub it in to poor (and in some cases I mean it literally) BFL customers. Grin

I have a single on order which is why I'm watching. But I'm doing a trade in from my FPGA single and used a CC for the other half. Right now my best path is just to hope something comes out soon. I have no idea how I would feel if I bought a minirig with Bitcoin. That is a totally different story.
112  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Top 10 reasons why BFL will postpone their April 2013 shipping date on: March 19, 2013, 01:47:13 PM
With how quiet it has been in this 'chip testing' phase I would prepare for some more bad news.  BFL is usually pretty prompt with providing mediocre information and really slow with passing on bad news.

I'm afraid this is likely true. They post something at least once a day when things are going smooth and get very quiet when things go wrong.
113  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL or Avalon on: March 12, 2013, 09:46:32 PM
Nobody knows for sure. I would guess BFL. I think they will be able to pump out more devices just due to the size of the devices.

This of course depends on the chips not having problems and actually releasing sometime soon.
114  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: BFL ready to ship? on: March 06, 2013, 11:26:45 PM

Forgot to mention the time it takes to place on the following labels:

My BFL FPGA doesn't have anything like that. As far as I know, it won't need that if it is using a pre-made power supply.
115  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon is (unfortunately) a scam. Here is why. on: February 02, 2013, 07:24:15 AM
The thing that bothers me the most about this so called proof is, the reason most of you believe avalon delivered as fact is because a reputable member is telling you so. Have you not learned anything? From Bitcoinica's owners running off with a half million, pirate (who everyone vouched for) $5 million plus theft, theymos trying to sell worthless stock, Nefario's bullshit, Patrick's bullshit, Matthews bet failure. I don't believe anyone on this forum and I'm not going to start anytime soon.

I understand your point, but I think it was completely obvious that pirate was a ponzie scheme. Everyone seemed to know it, they just went with it due to greed. There was no technical reason to believe it was true. It was a straight up "just trust me".

The Avalon ASIC on the other hand does not seem far fetched by any means. The technology seems completely novice compared to the rest of the devices we see now days. It just took a lot of investment to make it even worth trying for this particular application.
116  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Facts Based Thread on: February 02, 2013, 06:23:13 AM
I'll try to keep this updated even though it was never my intention to do so since I am only a 1.7 GH/s miner. I only know what I read here, but I will try to only use what I think is reliable data. If you have evidence otherwise, please post it here.
117  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: A different kind of ASIC on: February 01, 2013, 03:51:52 PM
SIUC alum here. Wouldn't mind a visit.
118  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Facts Based Thread on: January 30, 2013, 06:34:38 PM
lets see:

BFL: appeared at CES with a box of fans. has pictures of casings and LOTS of boxes of fans. pictures of hardware also, but no operational details/demos because no chips are ready yet.

AVALON: has 1 box of fans, with no confirmation of what is inside it. pictures of boards and a single questionable image of operational details from a week ago. Claims to have shipped but no tracking numbers or customers who have received.

As far as I see, this is all we know so far. Exactly what I'd like to find right away when coming here.
119  Bitcoin / Hardware / Facts Based Thread on: January 30, 2013, 06:53:23 AM
I know this is asking for a lot, but I noticed the mods have finally locked down. I'm not asking for censorship (I'm all for every piece of evidence either way), but could we get a sticky with known facts that is updated without all the speculation and BS?

I'm invested (not as much as some) and don't need to go through 20 threads of who said what. It would be nice if we had one place with facts posted as they happen. Only a mod can do this and only a mod should start that thread.

Then all the speculation and bickering can just continue in other threads. I have no problem with this, in fact I think it is healthy. I think with BitCoin everything should be heavily questioned.

WHAT WE KNOW:

Avalon -
1. Jeff Garzik has received a working miner from Avalon. Jeff's box has 3 modules and mines around 66 GH/s. He has mentioned some issues with rebooting, but also acknowledged that they may be due to his external environment(I missed where he said this had been resolved). Either way, incredible results. The power usage appears to be about 620 watts:

http://garzikrants.blogspot.com/2013/02/avalon-miner-power-usage.html

This is all based on Jeff's posts, but I don't see any reason at all to doubt them. If you have evidence otherwise, please post. I'm taking this as "fact".

2. Bitcoin Foundation has posted a video of a 4 module machine doing 89 GH/s:

https://bitcoinfoundation.org/blog/?p=112

I would assume they would not be lying (and in fact will).

I notice that my account says "Sent rewards:   3.01005026 BTC", however if I look in the full transaction list it only shows two payouts of 1 BTC each. Am I missing something?
