Bonjour and welcome SCDev, so can you explain whats going on with silk/darksilk/weaver?
I dont code so i have no opinion on whats on github, but i would like to know what the concepts are and how you see silk/darksilks future.
ps ive been here since the original dev fucked everyone over so its pretty cool to see silk rising from the ashes <3
I've a few questions along those lines too. Sorry if any of it's been covered somewhere, it's a long thread to dig through. 1. Who's the dev for Silkcoin (arteleis)? 2. What're their plans for SILK? 2. What relation will DRKSLK have to SILK? Will they interact in some way? 3. What relation does SCDeveloper have to the SilkCoin project and why have a second currency under the silk banner rather than starting a fresh project.. or if DRKSLK is part of the overal SILK project why not just bring masternodes etc. to SILK directly? Thanks 3. (2. number two lol) dark silk and silk is to a limited resource to a manufactured product of that resource.. my goal is to have a permanent swap/burn until the entire silk supply is depleted (but doubt that will happen) beyond that there are varying factors of how the two will interrelate, but particularily in marketplaces, with software I cannot currently make public. 4. Mr scdeveloper has been paid a continuous nominal weekly salary just enough to eat and live by me for the last 6 months or so.. and yes.. post drksilk success, we will be returning to silk to upgrade the code to whatever standards are at the time, and to be compatible with the software previously mentioned. to put it bluntly in a cryptic way.. there only a handful of brilliant developers in the world. And to get them all on the same stage, is a challenge to say the least. Point being. the technology emerging in alts is monumental in many cases.. and those that do not succumb to market wolves.. will be the successors to the previous technologies.. and markets.. imo anyways. alts are exciting. for me Silk is part of my life forever now. my goal is to ensure a fair launch, and have mutliple angles at investment, pow mining, pos mining, stormnode mining, and burning while keeping in the poetic story of a silktrader robbed blind enroute to the grand bazaar, and after leaving finding wealth in the wisdom of the scorpion beneath the sand. its all not just dollars and cents yall.. true wealth can include that too.. but also has the traits we are offering which is honesty, credibility, strong technology and well poetry and analogy. 420. 42. different numbers with zero theory mixed in meaning the same thing.. The camel never stopped. Just moved slowly and carefully. Been a long time in the desert since the grandbazaar. Beneath the sand the scorpion awakens beneath the camels hooves.. The storm comes.

Am I understanding it correctly. There'll be 45m pre-mined for swapping and then a further 45m as PoW rewards?
No. In the code currently it is set to a 45,000,000 DRKSLK instamine on block 1. This is set currently to a 1:1 ratio (roughly) with the current Silkcoin supply in circulation (subject to change). There will be 420,000 where mining PoW blocks is possible as the code states (again subject to change). However PoS happens after you have 42 confirmations so not every one of those 420,000 blocks will be mined as PoW but as PoS. If every block of the 420,000 was mined at 42 coins per block then the total coins mined would be 17,640,000 DRKSLK. So to calculate an exact total mined is not really possible as it is down to people staking on the network and also the amount of miners on the network. I'm not sure how I feel about a second PoW round for SILK, what's the motivation behind it? I don't hold a massive amount, but enough to wish I'd been a part of any discussion about measures that'd lead to the dilution of holders' shares. I'd be interested to hear other people's opinions on it. Is this being discussed somewhere else? In case there is a misunderstanding... There will be two coins developed together.. So darksilk will be mined. Silk will not be for now.. Or possibly if we were to raise the supply.. But also possible that a good chunk of silk will be burned darksilk.. The weaver is not finalised.. So there's also the clams style option, block chain scanner option, standard swap option (,if it was one coin.. But its two) or my preference a burn style option. What the original premine is intended for. Any silk user can burn their silk dark. Ok. I didn't realize they were separate projects and that silk will be continuing, I'll wait for more details. Sweet thanks Mr shadowy silk dev. For newb instructions on bootstrapping your chain to not take two days to sync please pm else post in the thread. As per initial blocks from ages ago still may have issues from the old devs brutal forks so restarts may be required. Else download the bootstrap double check the checksum and yer good to go. All info is in the ReadMe included in the download. READ THE README THAT'S WHY THEY EXIST!!!! readme's are for people that have too much time lol but yeh read the readme.. read this and then read the readme to bootstrap |

Silkcoin Blockchain Bootstrap Instructions

Navigate to C:\Users\[USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Silkcoin (This directory is normally hidden)
Open Start Menu and type: %appdata% and hit enter.
Place bootstrap.dat in the Silkcoin data directory:
Remove all files in directory EXCEPT FOR WALLET.DAT
Start the Silkcoin client.
It will read the file to create the blockchain.
The file will be renamed to bootstrap.dat.old when this has completed and at this point the bootstrap.dat files can be removed.
Information

bootstrap.dat allows a new Silkcoin client (not synced) to rapidly import the initial blocks from a local file instead of slowly downloading blocks from random peers.
This significantly reduces the time it takes to get a client synced with the current blockchain.
The import process can be even faster if you use the -dbcache=500 command line parameter which uses an additional 500MB of RAM for the database index cache as the current size of the bootstrap.dat is 462MB in size.
How to show hidden files/folders in Windows, Linux and Mac
----------------------------------------------------------
In Windows you can show hidden files and folders by navigating to View->Options->View and then select "Show Hidden Files and Folders".
In Linux you can simply press Ctrl+H.
In MacOSX open a terminal and enter "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE; killall Finder" and to hide them again enter "defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE; killall Finder"

We'll stay tuned to see what you're going to bring us.  In terms of the work I am doing, it continues... Well ATM I am SCDeveloper but upon launch I will be going public. But I already am...... Also in terms of the work done, I have spent a few months on this project and I am still committing daily. Upon launch everyone in the Silkcoin community should be happy if they are not now  Well could probably use a bootstrap the millionth block or so we at now. Can't remember last one ingot made.. Hello, Big bag holder here i have 19.5K Silkcoins staking again. I want to know, am i staking for some reason? Or is the camel dead? This coin should be spendable on some marketplace or something, that's how a coins bbuild value. Take bitcoin as example. After people heard you could spend them at Silk Road? The value sky rocket to $1200. Silk Coiun needs a Silk Market. Something like a online electronic store, or a grocery store. Just saying :p Watch this space, work is being done, expect ninja release!  A ninja release should be unexpected....lol yes I I suppose this is true. but also its possible to always think ninjas are coming. personally I believe the ninjas are coming. so I train hard. eat well. sleep carefully. it's the only way to defend from a ninja. but truly the ninjas will know you better then yourself. so if you do as I said, then one should expect to do the opposite. don't train, hire guards eat poorly and sleep fully exposed.. then you may be able to combat a ninja. because you expect him . but nonetheless. expect us. are we ninjas? well the true definition of a ninja is quite complex and tiered and in many cases have nothing to do with martial arts whatsoever... so perhaps you are both. exactly correct. in regards to the other post. I am happy you are staking. silk road had nothing to do with 1200 dollar price. that of course had to do with China. but yes. a market is a good idea. but if I was to say we were making one or even laying the groundwork for that.. well we wouldn't be ninjas. which goes back to the last paragraph. complex thing speculation is, isn't it. |

Yes i expect there will be a new wallet. It would be nice to have the market prices working properly again  It was a great feature, although i dont know if we will include it back or not because it was a security concern, however this may not be such a problem since we will be pretty much using brand new code this time. Exactly... any coin with built in market prices, in wallet trading, irc, etc etc is asking to get their asses kicked by novice hackers.. so no will not be included very sorry. was nice but dangerous as all hell |
