Introducing the world's first implementation of ZeroCoin

That's a pretty big claim to make. I'm really suspicious about this, as long as it remains a claim, they haven't really proved anything to us. I would't trust the developers of this coin until they present solid evidence to back this claim.

I agree.  I don't know much about the developers but it sounds like they've been around.

You can never know - be interested to know what people say about the source.  I believe Vert was the first to introduce stealth addresses

Yes. Poramin developed Vertcoin back in January. SX addresses were first implemented in Vert in the summer.

Also Poramin studied under Matthew Green (zerocoin project) at John Hopkins. So there is a connection in that regard. There was a debate early on within vert as to whether to go the anonymous route (zerocash) or  sx address route, with the latter winning out. So again, there is a connection.

The only thing in question is if that is indeed him or not (could be an impersonator), people are waiting for him to reply back under his established usernames. If it is indeed him then you can consider the claim credible. But people are skeptical that its him at this point.

Edit: He just confirmed its him under his established account.

why are you still waisting your time on this thread if its dead to you?

Posted From bitcointalk.org Android App

There's no reasoning with people who are strictly around to troll. It's best to ignore them. If someone is consistently bashing something on this board for the sheer pleasure of it they're getting perma ignored. It's the only way they truly go away.

Sigh.........................................keep telling yourself that. The other scenario is that people who are not blinded by false hope are trying to sincerely help those that might be. Blindly calling someone a troll just because he doesnt share your views is disingenuous. But we already had this conversation bristow...

It takes literally 2 seconds per day for me to follow developments on vert, less time than it takes for me to have a sip of coffee, so the "wasting time in the thread/s  argument also has no merits

Seriously..who still thinks this coin will survive? I have followed it since Jan, I cant see it happening. Only rational and reasonable responses please. Its an interesting industry, but Vert is on its last legs/dying

Looking back, the VertPay fiasco at the start of May seems to be the start (or at least the acceleration) of the massive decline for Vertcoin. All of the people who raised objections to VertPay and other developers who wanted to create positive things for Vertcoin have moved on to other things. Since the community members who started this are gone, is there any hope in garnering support from the developers who used to be a part of Vertcoin? Basically, developers were trying to create great products centered around Vertcoin and community members lambasted them.

The essence of what occurred, for those who don't remember, or who weren't around, can be found in this reddit thread. Inflamatory discussions took place over many different threads during that time period, but this is generally what they were all about.
http://www.reddit.com/r/vertcoin/comments/25a603/my_take_on_the_vertpay_issue_stay_far_away_they/chf71mk

owww, you quoted me in that link.

Agree 1000% that it started with vertpay. All the developers came out the next day and and said they were emberessed by some in the community. Thing is, right after that time Othe and Fluffy started working on mONERO.

Same thing happened with Vertvote. And Adam basically has gone AWOL after that fiasco.

Dont hold out hope for the developers coming back, there is no reason for them to.

While I agree to some extent with your statements about the Vertpay stuff, by the same token they were trying to get $300k worth of vert or something (at the time), while remaining for the most part anonymous. You'd have to expect a little healthy criticism and/or requests for more info about the people asking for hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of coins.

I don't agree that the same thing happened with Vertvote. That may or may not have been a good idea, but the implementation was poorly conceived and extremely easy to game. How the hell do you expect to run a democracy on the honor system?

I never ever ever tried to make a case for or against either vertvote or vertpay. The issue was the inflammatory rhetoric and downright character assassination that occurred with both cases. It left a bad taste in many peoples mouths causing them to say "you know what, fuck this community, I dont need to deal with this shit"

I appreciate there are still some people here but it would still be nice to hear confirmation that devs are still working on the new algo. We haven't heard from anyone in over a month. I'd think at LEAST a monthly update is the minimum we could ask for. It's kind of ridiculous the devs don't interact with the community imo.

Most people would like an update.  BUt the devs prefer to concentrate on the demanding work of an algo change than to come into the forum. As a community member, what can we do about it?  Be patient and support Vertcoin in our own ways. November is not too long to wait for.

Everything they've promised in the past has come to pass. I have no reason to doubt them. Let them work, they will release all the news when it's ready.

Ill refrain from posting anymore. I wanted to make a point, disagree or agree, its on the record.

I'm fine with people making their own choices. Following what they feel is right. I just don't understand the draw of talking about how bad something is. If you feel that way why not do yourself a favor and remove yourself from the situation. Again I have nothing against people selling and I'm not going to try to convince them now to. It's their own prerogative.

However if those people come to a public forum to try to vindicate their decision by trash talking or otherwise attempting to bring something down I just don't get it. If you're passionate about something or feel it's a good investment put your money and time into growing it. If you feel at some point your views have changed sell and leave. Why waste energy lingering over something you have nothing invested in.

What's the upside of actively trying to trash a coin? What does one gain by spending time on something they don't have anything invested in? Seriously it's like If I were to pick a random company or stock I have nothing invested in and went to their public forum to talk about how bad it is. WTF would I waste my time doing that?

No one is trashing a coin. Pointing out legit criticism is fair though.

Interesting campaign of fear and selling on here and on the /r/vertcoin sub. Almost seems organized...

Well I'm off to buy. Buy when people are selling, sell when people are buying.

Yes, because people pointing out certain things which dont align with your interests is an organized campaign.

Chasing losses is a real thing Bristow, and it usually doesnt end well.
109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Vertcoin - First Scrypt N | First Stealth Address - Privacy without mixer on: September 27, 2014, 01:12:53 AM
I dont know how much longer I can hold these things.

Sell. Its over. Cryptoland has moved on. after the Vertpay fiasco, vtc has spiraled down and it wont recover. Algo change wont do anything.
110  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Vertcoin - First Scrypt N | First Stealth Address - Privacy without mixer on: September 21, 2014, 01:10:48 AM
We could use a status update. It would be nice to hear how things are going. Nothing too elaborate Smiley

Bristow, you seem like a good guy, and I know you got some great family news recently, but I have to chime in on something. It seems like you are placing a lot of hope on the success of Vert. But objectively speaking, that hope is slightly irrational. The chances of Vert to reach a marketcap of even what was 2 months ago are extremely slim. Even with the upcoming changes. You seem to have more enthusiasm for the project than the developers (a few of which have moved on to other coins as lead devs, a few that have not interacted in months, and 1 which became disenchanted altogether). Trying to rally the troops at this stage is sadly fruitless.

I know you put a lot of money into this, but perhaps its time to move on. The overall Crypto marketplace has dramatically changed since January, and its increasingly looking like Vert has been left behind. Any progress that is being made on it is insignificant anyways, and wont lead to a major spike in price.

Sorry man, I just thought I would try to give some objective analysis for you so you are not sitting around waiting for months and months. I have been there, but sometimes better things await.

Hi Turtoro,

I do appreciate the post you made and its objectivity I feel that you may have the wrong idea about me. Yes I am invested in the coin, and I do support it but not because I'm banking on making a tonne of money on my investment. I'm fortunate enough to be able to walk away from crypto at the end of the day with only a short term impact on my finances. My disposable income would take a hit but the bills are paid, my debt is limited to a mortgage and the new addition will not go wanting Smiley I've also diversified in different Crypto and stock.

I support this coin more so than any other because I truly believe in it's fundamentals. The coin has a lot of potential, whether we get there or not is another story but everything it strives to be I want in a crypto. I will certainly look at new crypto's as they come out, the same way I'd look at any investment and if something peaks my interest I'll take a chance on it.

Again I appreciate the note and I see no malice in it. Just one person helping another. You make a great member of the community and I hope you stick around to see where all the cards fall.

Fair enough. We are all participating in an exciting industry, and no one knows for sure what the end game is. But we are the pioneers regardless. If I misread your strategy, I apologize. Best wishes on your new addition.

I always buy my coins in september/october and in november it starts to lift off, peaking in december/january Grin.

So did we already hit bottom? Maybe it starts earlier this year?

PS. I like long term behaviour more than pump and dump; a stable value would leed me to hold and use the coin instead of trading it.

?so what, you did it one time and are using that as a sample error?
113  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Vertcoin - First Scrypt N | First Stealth Address - Privacy without mixer on: July 28, 2014, 06:00:09 AM
instead of flaming the devs we should all work together and support this coin.
everyone who holds vert and argues here in the thread is an idiot. you are frightening potential investors and the price will go down.

so calm down and support lyra 2. going our own way is good marketing.
Its unique and its vert.

I first bought VTC for about 150 in May...
Because it was a quality coin with an intelligent community.... WAS.

This is no longer an "intelligent community"...
Any non-zombie comment is now hysterically considered "flaming".

With VTC is down 86% to 25 (more actually, it's even worse... it listed in the 200s)...
(I haven't lost much because I trade in and out constantly)...
But the Devs and community seem to be doubling down on the strategy that got them here...
A poorly designed Scrypt-N coin... wrong N, wrong algo, wrong whatever, doesn't matter...

You guys should be building MultiPools... not fighting them, etc
The fact that BC has a massive MultiPool makes makes them a real contender...
Because they can support their price... and are not totally an the mercy of external forces.

Anybody that tells you...
That a coin is built for the long haul and it's a Long Game... is lying to you.

The Alt Space is a 3 month sprint...
Just go look at those tasty summer 2013 coins... not a home run among them...
And even the winners like LTC and PPC are fading fast.

You bought first in May, Good. There is a lot of people who have been around a lot longer and know a bit more about what constitutes the community ethos than you. You say that it was intelligent in May but has gone downhill now? Thats a Joke. How dare you say that with a straight face? It was precisely around May (when you came on board as you say) that the level of spammers, uninformed individuals, and outright trolls who seem to want to derail the coin came on board and started to muddy the waters with loud, inaccurate, flaming accusations in order to drive an agenda that is detrimental to Vert. This all started with the Vertpay issue which caused a lot of smart people to leave after becoming disgusted with posts exactly like yours.

You have NO IDEA about the strategy that the devs used since the inception and why we are here. The whole algo change debate came up recently, so stop saying that this was planned and the strategy. that is outright false. Vert was on a downward spiral before this even came up as an option. They are trying to think outside the box to stop the leaks.

Vert is exactly trying to build itself for the "long game", and thats why its looking at securing its foundations now, for the future. If you are just interested in 3 months sprints ina coin, then do me, and yourself a favor and sell your remainder vert, and invest in another coin.

New vote open: https://vertvote.com/

To all:

Yes, a voting is open for 'Subsidy Change'. Please spread the words.  It would be an important change to the coin if the majority vote for 'yes'.

I just voted on this but now the options are different? wtf? They were more comprehensive before. Why do we have to vote again? Now I have to vote 'no' instead of just voting for 'sharkbite subsidy only'. Seems like someone is trying to game the votes.

No. There was a big discussion regarding the wording of the original vote.

The simple and basic reason is that there is far more volume with reddit and the 5000+ readers than here which has the same ~30 people posting.

Add: so in reference to my first question/allusion on the matter, if a Dev gives more importance to reddit than BitCoinTalk, then

1) he/she is afraid of the technical level inherent in BitCoinTalk
2) he/she is frivolous, juvenile and only interested in being "virtually" popular (i.e. "liked")
3) he/she is not interested in serious intellectual interchange regarding coin development
4) all the above

(Now you have the full version of my original tongue-in-cheek humor - please show your intelligence when responding.)

Are you being serious? holy shit...

I think so. You tell me. http://www.reddit.com/ Packed to the hilt with twits and nitwits, IMO of course.

...i meant here. There is just as much inane posting on on btctlk. Anyways, the purpose of that was to spread it to as much pple as possible. I dont get ur problem.

"5000+ readers"

...with a collective IQ that doesn't reach that same number.  Shocked

"~30 people posting"

...which often means that there's actual intelligence being expressed and the multitude of readers get their answers before having to post. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=stats

...and the idiots think twice before posting crap.

NEWS:

https://vertcoin.org/pow-algorithm-upgrade-lyra2/

Good news.

But what do devs who value reddit more than BitCoinTalk indirectly tell us?

(This is not an isolated case either.)

1: it doesn't mean anything

2: Why exactly do you think BTC talk is inherently the only defacto forum to conduct communication

3: The simple and basic reason is that there is far more volume with reddit and the 5000+ readers than here which has the same ~30 people posting.

Yacoin was the first Scrypt N coin.

The only difference was the starting N factor.

Fucking noobs.

Im really sick of the young brats in this industry. Grown men dont talk like this if they have something to say.

But we see that vertcoin is not interesting to big investors. All likes to play with shitcoins that are creating every new day.
Right now we see that every shitcoin's developer makes it "very secure, anonymous" and bla bla bla and we see that peoples likes it despite that shitcoins is nothing, just a new little piece of shit in ocean of new created altcoins =)
I'm confused. Problem is not in sellers, problem is in buyers. They are just absent at this moment. Why? What do they want?

At the macro level, it feels that the entire Altcoin market has been drying up the last few months. There is not much liquidity going in. Even those coins that are rising are doing so without any special amount of volume. Even if Vert were to rise back to $2 dollar levels, it wouldnt mean much because its not as though someone who is holding 5k would be able to liquidate them easily. Buy support has gone down overall. The industry seems to have lost steam. My belief is that it will stay stagnant until the next wave of interest rushes into BTC and new investors enter the market.
