101  Economy / Speculation / Re: SegWit losing Bitcoin Unlimited winning -> Moon soon on: March 21, 2017, 07:17:49 PM
The biggest problem in all this is that both solutions are somewhat shitty in their feature set.

Why are we at a point where only two solutions exist? The good thing about signaling is you could signal multiple options, within one "dev camp"/bitcoin client.

Core should give more options for example:
- SegWit + no block increase
- SegWit + block increase to 2MB
- NO SegWit + increase to 2MB
- xxx some other option

That way the network would decide and the Core team would not damage their reputation by "forcing" SegWit as the only option.

I still consider Core the most competent of taking care of the code, but I can't get my head around this, why not provide an alternative option to signal...

The problem with only two solutions is that one usually gets picked, even if both are bad.

(I am not counting the 8MB solution as an option since its just lazy and too extreme Smiley )

Edit: I read through the whole thread, good reading Smiley

When start solo mining a get only HW error. On suprnova itīs OK. Config: sgminer -k sha256t -o http://127.0.0.1:8882 -u ...... -p ...... -I 21 -w 64 -g 1
I use AMD GPU. What is wrong ?

works great
 sgminer.exe -k sha256t -o 127.0.0.1:21961 -u fhjggvhbvlgh -p dklklfddghvbvft -I 21 -w 64 -g 2

I have HD7970. What's yours ?
GTX 1070
Have you found any blocks with sgminer and GTX1070?
I'm finding several myself with ccminer. ccminer is a bit slower than excavator, but excavator doesn't support solo.

@krile - how did it go? did you find any?

The card is running but I forgot to open a port for ssh access so I cant check right now, will report later when I get home Smiley

But from the way it looked yesterday when I started it: everything looks normal except a lot of HW errors. I am not sure if that is normal for solo with sgminer...

Maybe the next step would be to try out sgminer solo with another coin/algo...if it even works. Or better yet I might try out testnet on onecoin later...
Yea maybe just hit the testnet for a few hours..

Well I just checked, no blocks found (around 20 hours). So sgminer solo does not work. Just a bunch of HW errors. Will try testnet too...
103  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: [ANN] Bitcoin PoW Upgrade Initiative on: March 21, 2017, 03:00:31 PM
Guys isn't one of the main reasons that Bitcoin is so valuable because of the crazy high mining difficulty and capital investment that is required for ASICs, electricity...etc.

To me it sounds like if you go back to GPU mining, you cut off one leg to the market, making the price of bitcoin plumet and stabilize much lower than it is now.

Wont the 16nm development wall that was reached recently, decentralize mining organically as time passes?

I think this "mining centralization" problem is only a temporary issue. And making the shift from ASIC to GPU just gives power to another entity (in most cases probably the same people since most ASIC farms also include a GPU farm).

I am not so naive to believe that going to GPU will magically put home hobby miners in control or decentralize the hashing in any significant way (maybe for a month, but then we are back to pools and farms being in control)

The PoS 0 reward solution (empiric example here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1801129.0)  would be much more attractive, putting some control to nodes and the people that actually own BTC.

UPDATE

The chain is moving, but as you notice, slowly. I'm getting ready to walk out the door for work, but I wanted to let you all know that everything is fine. I'll be back when I get home to address everyone's comments/questions/issues.

Thanks for your patience, I'll be back in about 8 - 10 hours.

The block target just jumped from 60s to 182s at block 20k. Its normal that everything slowed down. Imagine if it was 300s (5minutes) like intended Wink

How many days left for the 15% bonus ?
Bonus Day 1 to Day 5
Given that March 18 counts as Day 1 (does it?) it would be until March 22
Details: https://particl.io/ --> FAQ --> Token Exchange --> How is the token exchange structured?

Ok thanks.. I see now on the website...  so maybe 2 days left

Well, I better start moving my SDC out of Poloniex right now so i don't have any problem with that damn 7k daily limits withdrawals  Sad

Cool Cool I want that extra 15% bonus!

They should really prolong this bonus a few days.  The wallet takes a long time to sync right now.  That would show more fairness.

You could use a light wallet (like coinomi on android) and just swipe the private key Wink

Can we go over the swap process again, at least link to it here?  In these long threads of support/FUD it's hard to find this kind
of info.

1. register here: https://particl.io/ (+ enable 2FA - recomended)
2. generate SDC address in your dashboard
3. send SDC to address
4. wait a bit for the SDC to arrive
5. timer will start (24h) and the max amount of BTC you can deposit for the 15% bonus (in proportion to your SDC deposit)
6. deposit BTC if you want the bunus
7. done - wait for particl release Smiley

(bonus is availible only in the first 5 days...so approx 2 more days to go)

Why invest in an ICO and Vaporware promises when Bitbay already have everything Particl are promising?

Shadowcash is already 2 years behind Bitbay! who's going to invest?

Well it is not an ICO technically, its a swap.

Like Jumbucks and Creditbit recently (there might be others that I am not aware of).

But why a swap and not a hardfork.  Let everyone that owns SDC get a share of parts and not have to swap them?  They could have keep the 15% inflation in the fork block.
Sounds like a way to get some extra sdc from people not paying attention.

Also why did they price parts at $1 (a bonus .15 parts for $.15 worth of BTC).  That helped crash the price as well, since SDC was trading around $4.

Well the whole description on the bonus was a mess, I admit that. But it gets quite clear once you actually deposit the SDC...

I think they chose this road because it is cleaner than a hardfork. With a hardfork, you still have to keep the old codebase in the client so it syncs to the fork block.

This way you can just start clean, have all the updated features of bitcoins codebase and dont have to worry about syncing an old chain...

110  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: can someone point me to hard (objective) technical evidence AGAINST SegWit? on: March 20, 2017, 06:33:37 PM
I am also looking for evidence against SegWit but am having problems finding something substantial. Most of it is political, not technical...

What is the status of the "lets do nothing camp"?

On https://coin.dance/blocks#hashrate I noticed a few pools signal neither (SegWit/BU):

https://pool.btc.com/
https://bixin.com/
http://solo.ckpool.org/
http://btc.top/
https://xbtc.exx.com/

to name a few.

Do they even know all this debate is going on? Cheesy

Tnx for the hint. I will try with my card, looks like its doing its thing. The difficulty is low enough now, should see a block pop up soon if this works
112  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [SDC] ShadowCash | Welcome to the UMBRA on: March 20, 2017, 10:09:54 AM

Wondering if I should send my coins to the swap now or leave them staking until the last day?

Considering that the difficulty will drop with everyone sending the coins to the swap...I might get more stakes and get a better deal than the BTC 15% bonus...

Other than that, reading through all the critique, I like that this coin is rebranding.

It is similar to DarkCoin --> DASH rebranding.

If this project wants to reach a wider audience I think the work Shadow might be too shady Wink

Starting a fresh chain is also a good idea imho, do you realize how long SDC syncs at the moment lol Cheesy

What matters are the people, and this team has the knowledge to make good working code, so I am sticking with this long term.

If I were you, convert now. Yes, the diff will be lower, but the collected SDC will stake eventually to keep the network secure. So it's better to take the bonus instead of stakes (well that might not be true if you'd hold some significant amount of SDC, like 300k's).

Done. Sent SDC + BTC.

So many swaps recently. Another staking node shutting down.

I held this coin for 2 years and absolutely nothing was worked on,,,, there is your evidence clown

I bought shadow in January 2016, the price was approx 0.1 $. Today it is 2$ (nevermind the crazy pump to 5$, the "real" price is 2$)

If you held this coin for 2 years you also got in at a similar price or maybe even lower.

What part of the 20x price increase you do not like?

Someone had to work on making the coin better to gain the markets trust to increase this much...
114  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][OC] ONECOIN | NO PREMINE | FAIR LAUNCH | SHA256 TRIPLE on: March 20, 2017, 09:06:03 AM
Hi all, i am looking at source code where is the piece for only generate pos blocks when the mempool is not empty, but i cant find it, some help will be eternally  indebted

I was looking at that too. But I think it there is no additional code (I compared to blackcoins code). I think the blackcoin PoS protocol by itself will not try to create a pos block if there is 0 reward (nSubsidy in main.cpp).

A transaction in the mempool (that is paying the fee of course) means nSubsidy is grater than 0, giving the PoS kernel something to work with and it then tries to sign a block.

So you would have to dig deeper into blackcoins PoS kernel to understand this (kernel.cpp). I did not go that far Smiley

Edit: I might be wrong, this might be older legacy from the peercoin staking implementation. Maybe look into wallet.cpp how it handles staking. The answer might be there. But comparing the code, nothing is changed considerably from blackcoin to onecoin in wallet.cpp.

Hi,op, could you tell me the advantage of Algorithm Blake2s ,why use this algo?

From their site https://blake2.net/

"BLAKE2 is a cryptographic hash function faster than MD5, SHA-1, SHA-2, and SHA-3, yet is at least as secure as the latest standard SHA-3. BLAKE2 has been adopted by many projects due to its high speed, security, and simplicity. "

Fast, secure, and so far no asic miner to my knowledge...
Absence of ASIC miners ensures fair distribution. This is another point that we have under our belt.

Yet, blake2s is very low memory. Once a coin using it develops enough attention ASICs will be developed.

But Honey doesn't have to worry since it has a pow end (block 500000).

To mention, blake2s is also used in honey's pos block hashing, making the cpu load of a node running it considerably lower than others (scrypt coins for example) making blake2s a good choice.

Got lured here from the SDC thread Smiley

I like it but one question:

SpecificationsValue
Total number of coins: 20,000,000 XSPEC
Ideal block time: 300 seconds (5 minutes)[/td]
Stake interest: 5% annual static inflation
Confirmations: 6 blocks
Maturity: 288 blocks (24 hours)
Min stake age: 8 hours

https://github.com/spectrecoin/spectre/blob/master/src/main.h#L60

Code:
inline unsigned int GetTargetSpacing(int nHeight) { return Params().IsProtocolV2(nHeight) ? 64 : 60; }

What is up with this? Its 1 minute, not 5minutes.

So many coins are doing this recently. Saying its x minutes blocktime but do not bother to change that in the code. This line was unchanged when forked from blackcoin obviously.

Yes, that's an oversight, you are actually the first to point that out. It hasn't been seen as a critical issue so has been left. We are currently finishing off a new Windows version and some Tor upgrade so will have a look at block time.  Grin

I am usually the guy pointing things like this out lol, usually I get my posts deleted. Thank you for not deleting Smiley

Just realized there is no cap on the maximum amount of coins in the code. And there is more than 20M in the supply already. So also what is up with that?

Maybe change the specs in the ANN to match the actual specs, it will be better for the coins reputation long term. There are probably more people like me around that actually look at the code Smiley

You are right, there is meant to be a static 5% per year so no set maximum coins but it will take many years to get a significant increase in supply. The idea is that more people will use the coin and so this and inflation will offset this. It could be decided in a year or two to reduce reward if that seems sensible. We started with 20 mill.

By rough calculations, this coin is getting 500,000 new coins first year, 512500 second year, 525312 third year...etc and exponentially up (considering that only 50% are staking which is usually the case with PoS coins, if all 100% coins are staking you can double that number).

Well anyway I just wanted to point this out. Will buy some and join the staking. The dev not deleting posts is always a good sign Smiley
