What's the significance of the modifcation(s) you did? (like, why did you do it, and does it change the way the riser works)

Sending email to you. I want a mobo combo.

...snip... with --fix-protocol key it seems to be the most stable version i've ever seen. Without --fix-protocol cgminer sometimes stops if internet connection is broken.
I've been thinking why not hard code the --fix-protocol into 2.8.6+ since it seems to do the job very well. (and add a --no-fix-protocol option instead?)

Well if sockets are actually working (the link there is about how to enable them when they aren't working) then it's a problem with the socket connecting to the target.
So it's a firewall/port forwarding problem if sockets are installed properly and enabled in PHP (they are on by default usually in linux, but not always in windows)
That's what I figured. I will update this thread if I ever find a solution. I am trying out some experiments from the php.net website.

... as per API-README - you say in cgminer what IP addresses are allowed to access cgminer. Then in miner.php you say the IP:port:randomshortname of the cgminer
Yeah, I forgot to mention that I did that. I set the allowed addresses in the config file, and as you saw below that statement, I added it to miner.php. ... as per the README FAQ ... it means sockets are either disabled on not installed in your PHP There is a link in the FAQ.
That's the part I can't figure out. Q: I run PHP on windows to access the API with the example miner.php. Why does it fail when php is installed properly but I only get errors about Sockets not working in the logs? A: http://us.php.net/manual/en/sockets.installation.php I am not running PHP on windows. I have bluehost, and they use apache. Visiting that link doesn't help me. I don't know what this means, or how to do it: The socket functions described here are part of an extension to PHP which must be enabled at compile time by giving the --enable-sockets option to configure. There's a user note on that page that says you need to uncomment the line that reads ;extension=php_sockets.dll (by removing the semi colon), or if it's not there, to add it. I don't know where to add it, so I added it to the end. Still having same error. So, AS PER THE README FAQ, I am not running php on windows to access the API, so I didn't think it applied. This is not a priority because I only want to monitor one rig, and I can use CMD.exe to run API calls. (it's just that it doesn't like when I use the pipe, for some reason) Thanks for your help. Anyone got it working on bluehost? LMK. I will continue to interface with the google for now.

What are the limitations of miner.php when used on a webhost (such as bluehost, hostgator, etc.) ? [I am familiar with php btw] I was thinking that first of all, I have to set api-allow to the host's shared IP to my config file, or allow all. 2nd: I have to forward public port 4028 on my router to my rig's internal ip address and private port. (in this case it's the same port as the public one) 3rd: I have to instruct miner.php to look at my public IP address:port. line 45: $rigs = array('<my ip>:4028:QUADMINER'); 4th: 5th: PROFIT! I am having an error... Error getting device list: ERR: socket connect(<my ip>,4028) failed 'Operation now in progress'error_log shows [22-Oct-2012 14:32:59] PHP Warning: socket_connect() [<a href='function.socket-connect'>function.socket-connect</a>]: unable to connect [115]: Operation now in progress in /home2/<username>/public_html/test/miner.php on line 315 line 315 has $res = socket_connect($socket, $addr, $port);

+1 again. Same thread. Nolo200 went above and beyond my expectations for shipping and handling. It wasn't his fault that the UPS clerk fat-fingered my address. One phone call and I went to go pick it up from UPS, no problem.

Well, this time I don't mind, it means that the total network has has gone down, and it may result in a lower difficulty.
3 days ago I switched back to BTC mining for that reason.

Open Win32 Disk Imager and select the image file bamt_v0.5c.img Next select your usb drive letter under the Device dropdown menu
I can't get w32di to work on my win7x64 machine. the drop-down drive selector just stays blank.

not sure what you mean by "HAS TO BE CLICKED to reset the app" I can leave the pop up up on both pcs and still use TV fine. If you set the app up the wrong way it does not continue to listen after you disconnect, perhaps that was his issue. Slider, you might be correct. I am not using TV but just want to reiterate that I was using my Android phone, and using my master password to connect to my home computer(s). After I would disconnect, that dialog box popped up. Then I couldn't remote connect any more, unless and until someone at the home computer would physically move the mouse and click [okay] on that pop up. I am currently using TightVNC and it serves me well. If I ever get a chance to experiment again, I will reinstall TeamViewer and attempt to make sure everything set up correctly, and not use the master account password to log in, plus actually try to log in from a desktop, and not just my smart phone. I consider the matter closed. Thanks to all who gave input on this topic.

ckolivas, your miner is great for my scrypt mining.
There's just one thing that bothers me, and only me I believe. I mine on working computers, and I find myself changing intensities a lot. I wish that cgminer could use the "enter" key on the 10-key as well as the regular "enter" key.
Lol, in the early days, i would press: "G U 0", then go to the 10-key and finish with "1 2 enter" but that enter never worked!
Maybe include that in the next full release? It's not that big a deal tho.

Is this thread still up? gosh. I've posted more and more on the ltc forum since I made this post. It's just that Greedi, every time I made a post, you said "hey, post this in the litecoin forum" and I was sick of it. I'll post there when I"m good and ready. And I became ready later on. I have 40 posts over there now. But it's still effectively dead.

im running this while not gaming "cgminer -o us2.eclipsemc.com:8337 -u xxxxxx -p xxxxx --shaders 1792 --intensity 12 --worksize 256 -v 1"
but how can i cut out gpu 0 when running bf3?
An alternate method that Kano didn't suggest is in the command line, use --device 1[,2,3,4,n] to turn "OFF" device 0, which is GPU 0. If you are using batch files to start cgminer, use two files, one for gaming with "--device 1" and one for when not gaming.

All the VNC tools use the same base code, so for example androidVNC (free) will connect to a computer running TightVNC (which I also just tested)
That's super duper awesome!
|
|
|
Try tightvnc - it's free.
Heh, that's what i'm already using, but it has no Android support (that I know of). I was really impressed with TeamViewer except for that problem I mentioned. @Graet, may I ask your version number? And if you used it with a smartphone? Thanks.

@pandaminer: free teamviewer is working excellent all the time. i have reconnect as many times as i want without resetting anything!
Well it doesn't work like that for me. Of course, I was using my Android to log in and do some stuff (not for mining) and then I log off, and the remote computer shows a dialog box "thanks for trying teamviewer" ... etc and if I Try to remote into it again, it never connects. (that is, unless the dialog box is dealt with locally to the remote computer) Maybe it's a different "free" version number. Can you send me the install version that works for you? Thanks. Please PM.

Well, I can't speak to his motivations as to why he want's to use his 4670 for mining. ... Now whether he want's to keep on using that for mining for the foreseeable future or not is worth debating the wisdom of.
We also don't know if he's getting free power, we just assume. :p
|
|
|
Install teamviewer in windows or use ssh in linux - your miners are only as far away as the closest pc, both will also work from android smartphones (possibly iPhone too) Teamviewer is very expensive and the free version sucks after you remote-view as the remote computer gets a pop-up that HAS TO BE CLICKED to reset the app, otherwise you can't remote-view again. Unless you have a solution for that G?

Just be sure you are familiar with they pay structure, and that you're comfortable with it.
