101  Economy / Lending / Re: Need a loan IBB on: September 13, 2011, 11:02:17 PM
IBB only does 5.0 BTC loans and their qualification list is posted in the Lending thread How to get a loan.

Very cool!

I've been watching http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NIST_hash_function_competition and particularly Skein. Seems interesting.
104  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: HOW MUCH BTC IS POSSIBLE TO MAKE per 24 H using 4x HD 6990 ? on: September 12, 2011, 09:29:02 PM
look here:

http://blog.zorinaq.com/?e=42

he says that 4xHD 5970 can do 28630 Mhash/sec

Is it possible ??

find a line: " •whitepixel 1: 4xHD 5970: 28630 Mhash/sec "

The second chart compares single-hash MD5 brute forcers running on as many of the fastest GPUs they each support. Note that 8 x HD 5870 has not been tested with any of the tools because it is unknown if this configuration is supported:

whitepixel 1: 4xHD 5970: 28630 Mhash/sec
ighashgpu 0.90.17.3 with "-t:md5 -c:a -min:8 -max:8": 8xGTX 580: 17200 Mhash/sec (estimated), 2xHD 5970: 12600 Mhash/sec

A single-hash MD5 is much different then what Bitcoin miners are hashing (sha256).
105  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: STOP STORING YOUR BITCOINS ON ANONYMOUS WEB! on: September 12, 2011, 04:39:20 PM

How many people actually need bitcoin on the go? seriously why?

And you can use logmein.com  5min setup and free.

Now that is a smarter idea. Don't store your bitcoins on a 3rd party web site/wallet, instead give a 3rd party remote control/access of your computer where your wallet should be stored.  Huh

What is your definition of legit? I don't think MtGox, Tradehill, ExchB or CampBX operate out of basements.
107  Other / Off-topic / Re: The Ultimate 9-11 Truth - Watch this! - You Won't Believe Your Eyes Anymore on: September 11, 2011, 10:13:59 PM
We were shown Previously produced CGI video on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001

There were no hijackers, and the eye witnesses to planes were paid actors and SIMS that never existed.

That's the unbelievable truth.

Yep, sure it is.  Cause the video said so, right?

You are one of the most ignorant people in the whole world. Go back to sleep. You have never been awoken and likely never will be.

Personal attacks are not necessary are they? What could you possibly gain by a personal attack. If he doesn't agree with your point of view how would that negatively affect you?
108  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Feasibility and it's future on: September 09, 2011, 05:22:33 PM
An alternate method of retrieving the blockchain (and substantially faster) is to download the most recent nightly from tcatm (core dev) at http://eu1.bitcoincharts.com/blockchain/.

Myself, I would trust a blockchain download from tcatm or other core developers but I would strongly recommend against downloading an arbitrary blockchain elsewhere.

1) Extract the tarball into your bitcoin directory
2) Run bitcoin (or bitcoin.exe) with the -rescan flag

Should help you get up to current block count much sooner.

@ Trentzb. I still can't believe I have to argue this with you guys. Did you ever use your bitcoin client? Did you have to type in your name and address to use your bitcoin client? NO? NO? and still somehow magically your bitcoin client can tell you who I am? What's my name? My bitcoin address is 1KnRCRAUYKjjbVsAgWNFWdXGwtuFZCfxNe. I'll give you 10 bitcoins if there's a software out there that will tell you my name. Oh? You don't know my name? How about my mailing address and phone number did you get that information too? What do you mean you can't tell that information from my bitcoin address? Do you mean I could be anonymous? Give your head a shake.

Yes there is software that can aid in finding out your ip and thus your name, address, etc from your Bitcoin address and activity. One of them is called BlitCoin, but there are others which have not been publicly disclosed. If you have convinced yourself that you are completely anonymous using Bitcoin then you probably believe you are anonymous on the Internet as well. Good luck with that.
110  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin Feasibility and it's future on: September 09, 2011, 02:55:22 PM
Bitcoin is NOT anonymous regardless of whether you use an online wallet/service or the Bitcoin client itself. Whoever told you it was is misinformed themselves.

Did you turn on the UPNP option?
112  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How many people have bought rigs for free through bitcoins they've earned? on: September 09, 2011, 07:26:16 AM
We have mined enough to build about 10 additional rigs after covering initial rig x 4 costs. We did not build beyond initial 4 rigs though, just holding now.
113  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Biddingpond.com - is this site dead? The admins are no where to be found. on: September 09, 2011, 01:53:12 AM
FWIW, the guys at biddingpond and bitcoincashout have been around for a long time and as far as I am concerned are respected members of the community. I have done business with them for quite some time and I would be shocked to learn of them taking advantage of anyone. It just doesn't fit their character or business practices. I am confident they will work out your issue.
114  Economy / Lending / Re: Do not give your ID to IBB on: September 08, 2011, 06:22:44 AM
Secondary form of ID or address validation makes perfect sense. Suppose someone finds a lost wallet with an ID or steals a wallet with an ID, creates a forum account with that name and uses the ID for verification. A single ID is not sufficient to determine whether you actually own that ID. However, I don't have any reason to believe you don't own the ID you provided.

I am sure that requesting a loan from any conventional financial institution would require at least two forms of ID and more, and you most likely would never have access to contact information of the principals of that institution either.
115  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I am starting a 189G/Hash Mining RIG on: September 07, 2011, 11:55:21 PM
Thats full system at wall at ~420W right? What MB/CPU/MEM and perpherals you using, and how efficient is PSU?

I would estimate your 6990 is doing around 300W +/- 20 itself. Sound right?

So you might be able to squeeze 3 x 6990 + system on 1kw PSU, probably better on 1.2kw.

117  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: I am starting a 189G/Hash Mining RIG on: September 07, 2011, 11:18:12 PM
You beat me to it. I was also trying to figure out where to buy 6990s for ~$300.

Assuming you need 189 Gh/s your breakdown would be:

~80 rigs holding 3 x 6990 each.

Per rig: ~$450 + 3 x $500 (being extremely generous) = ~$1950/rig

80 x $1950 = $156k investment not including cooling as SgtSpike mentioned.

189 Gh/s would do you ~100 BTC/day IF difficulty never changed again. At a generous $10/usd per BTC exchange rate you are looking at about $1k per day gross, but net I suppose since you get free electricity.

So ~$31k per month would take you around 5+ months to break even.

navigator and my numbers are in the ballpark, both are pretty accurate...I was just more generous assuming you have a secret source for 6990s at $500 each, exchange rate of $10/BTC and difficulty never changing, ever.

You must have missed my proposed alternate solution in my recent post. Smiley

Your reply to me via PM:

I didn't even accept your offer to begin with. I made a mistake, since this is my first time selling on this forum. I spent over $300 each for the cards and you want both for a little over $100. I'll just die from all of this..

You actually did accept my offer in your original post. You stated "Any offers are accepted also" as I pointed out several times. If you meant that you would consider any offer or think about any offer you should have stated so.

I propose an alternate solution. Go and do your cleanup work in the thread I pointed you to and to the satisfaction of the parties involved in that issue and I will retract my offer and not expect you to perform. Until those parties are satisfied my offer (and your acceptance) stands and I expect you to perform per the terms. Which means shipping those two cards tomorrow to the address I listed in PM to you. I of course will honor my side of the transaction per the offer.
