81  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: [Request] Bandwidth limits on: September 22, 2011, 05:00:56 AM
You of course don't need the bitcoin daemon running all the time unless you are mining solo. If you are solo then look into the flag -nolisten or something similar. I may be incorrect but I would assume if you don't accept incoming connections you won't be relaying data. You might be able to tell the daemon to listen on a nonstandard port if -nolisten isn't available.

@Bit-tired, if you have an accusation make it & be detailed about it. Otherwise post a dino.
83  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Scammer Alert: logansryche on: September 21, 2011, 11:01:42 PM
ATTENTION EVERYONE!
ATTENTION EVERYONE!
I am openly admitting that this deal was entirely my fault. Cablepair came to me and asked me for a gift card. He didn't ask if I had one, just that he needed one. I mislead him into thinking I had a card lying around like yesterday's news and so he paid me. Did I fuckup? Oh yeah, majorly. Am I a scam artist? No.. I thought the deal was in the bag, but no one will care about that. They'll only see that I fucked up and lable me a liar/cheater/scammer/whatever.

So there it is.
Hope you're happy Cablepair.

There ya go lying again. It wasn't entirely your fault. Jeremy posted above that he had a little mixup with the email addresses. Smiley
84  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Scammer Alert: logansryche on: September 21, 2011, 05:54:51 PM
ok my bad we got one confirmation now looks like he really sent me the coins back. But its proof that he was lying all along. (not that it matters now we already knew he was a liar)

the transaction right under mine on that "screen shot" of his is completely fake

85  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Largest Bitcoin Scam of Them All? on: September 21, 2011, 04:20:40 AM

You listed one of these companies returning capital to the investors on your blog.
Dishwara: A Small Mining Company started as hobby

The “company” has already folded and is  selling all their equipment, buying back their shares and closing up shop.

Dishwara just helps prove my point. GLBSE performs no over site of anything being posted (and it is their responsibility), does not do any due diligence, does not require any business documentations. There is no regulation on it. Its a scam pure and simple. A wild west to grab money and not pay it back. No statutory requirements to list on it.

Where is Dishwara's business license? Business plan? Operating capital? Contact info? List of auditors? Plan to return capital to investors when it goes bankrupt (which all Bitcoin companies have done on GLBSE).

Where is GLBSE's requirement to provide a quarterly report? Or even a monthly or weekly? Where does GLBE list the beta? Where are the earning listed? What about P/E? Or the PEG? Is there any expected growth here?

Well, we just have a difference of opinion. Although I would have to agree that GLBSE is not the SEC and I don't think it pretends to be.

I have yet to see evidence that GLBSE has committed any sort of fraud. I believe fraud requires intent. Maybe negligence was what you were looking for? But I still would not agree that GLBSE has been negligent either.

I don't think anyone here is going to convince you otherwise, sorry you feel that way.

No problem with coming here to trade IMO - you are welcome in that regard. But you will find that people on this forum are very suspicious and skeptical. And with good reason because the world of bitcoin is full of scam artists. So you may find that you need to be social and build a rep here before anyone is willing to do business with you. It might be smart to start with gift cards at a smaller dollar amount so there is less risk and people are more willing to give it a shot.

+1 Good advice

And yes, there is no prohibition on newbies trading in newbie subforum. Just a little unwise though to expect to find willing traders who will exchange a non-reversible currency for a reversible product/currency without a reputation or history of successful trades.

But you are welcome to try.

I came late, could you please point me to where you proved GLBSE committed fraud or swindled anyone? I am sure you have evidence supporting this claim.

Post #1? http://www.efwhyeye.com/?p=252

Yea, I just can't seem to find any evidence of GLBSE committing fraud there.

Show me how these supposed 'companies' return the capital to the 'investors' when they go bankrupt.

You listed one of these companies returning capital to the investors on your blog.

You are a little too new. Care to share some reputation and successful trades? If you are anxious to get your hands on some BTC I would suggest buying some first and get to be known in the community before jumping straight to selling something the same day you register.

http://www.thefreedictionary.com/scam

tr.v. scammed, scam·ming, scams
To defraud; swindle.

Defraud. Perfectly fits GLBSE.

I have already proved it. Apparently no one in this thread can prove otherwise.

I came late, could you please point me to where you proved GLBSE committed fraud or swindled anyone? I am sure you have evidence supporting this claim.

Can you provide some more information to facilitate investors in doing reasonable due diligence? I don't see you listed here: http://companies.herokuapp.com/

Evidence of assets?
92  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Largest Bitcoin Scam of Them All? on: September 21, 2011, 01:57:08 AM
no clue what you consider the "general definition" is. If you mean:

Definition of SCAM

: a fraudulent or deceptive act or operation <an insurance scam>

then I could confidently state that

All the 'companies', if you even want to call them that, on GLBSE are scams. and GLBSE is one big scam.

is false. Prove otherwise.

93  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Largest Bitcoin Scam of Them All? on: September 21, 2011, 01:39:19 AM

All the 'companies', if you even want to call them that, on GLBSE are scams. and GLBSE is one big scam.

Prove otherwise.

Define scam.

This thread is a formal allegation of fraud and scam activity against etsanchez and turquoise9955 and provides an opportunity for either member to dispute the allegation and provide evidence supporting such dispute.

Please post any evidence you have (PMs, emails) into this thread at your earliest convenience. Please sanitize your post here to not disclose any of your own personally identifiable information if you so choose. Please include the BTC address etsanchez requested payment to be sent to.

The allegation is that none of the above members received product.

etsanchez allegedly replies to GuruSteve via PM indicating that it was indeed a scam at: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=42167.msg525281#msg525281

@GuruSteve
Please post PM content reflecting the above statement so I can remove "allegedly". It has been corroborated to my knowledge but it would help to have that PM posted here.

It was confirmed via Administrators that etsanchez and turquoise9955 are the same individual. I have not located direct evidence of fraudulent activity by turquoise9955 as of yet.

In future transactions please be cautious folks. Don't depend on this forum or Staff/Administrators to protect you from scammers. Do some substantial due diligence and if it sounds just too good to be true, just pass on it.

Edit: Please do not post in this thread unless you are a party to the transactions referenced above or have specific evidence regarding the transactions or the accused member(s).
@Staff: Please remove any posts not conforming to the listed post restrictions.

96  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Unknown National Chain Restaurant to Accept Bitcoin This Weekend on: September 16, 2011, 01:57:49 AM
I find it difficult to believe a 500 location national chain would consider even a test run of accepting Bitcoin without consulting their legal group first. I suppose they may have been sitting on this or planning for a while as I don't think a legal group for such a chain would sign off on something like this in a matter of a few days.

98  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: A new genesis block isn't just for Solidcoin... as Bitcoin has the same ailment on: September 15, 2011, 04:52:39 PM
I keep coming back to the need for a super-node but I don't particularly like that idea much. I think it has been mentioned elsewhere that if a super-node system was used there has to be some incentive and a proof of work for a super-node to operate and relay/validate transactions. I cannot imagine a way to provide such incentive while insuring valid answers are provided to other nodes.
