So in other words you can't understand basic economics.  Price volatility at CEX depends on demand not on logic (if it depended on logic nobody would lose money there).

Here, I'll give you Occam's razor - the price was overinflated and a large holder decided to dump his assets.

Worth it depends on what you want out it.  Some people tinker with hardware that never makes them money but it's fun for them.  For other people they need to spend $100 going skiing or $1500 just on a flight to have fun.

If you're looking to make a profit there is a slim chance a basic computer can mine some future well supported coin - most everybody who mined Bitcoin in 2009 mined at a "loss".

Post your hardware specs and your electricity rate.  CPU, memory, GPU, Power supply.

The radiation is a minimal issue unless you sleep next to the miner.  Remember the intensity decreases with the square of the distance.

I don't want to dissuade you from mining but you should be aware that profit in GPU mining is razor thin right now.  If you want to do it as a learning experiment or hobby then go ahead.

The X11/X13 algos use less energy than Scrypt but a basic PC with a 280X will still put out close to 300W of heat into the room continuously.

If you live in some place like WA state with 0.02/KWh electricity you can definitely make a nice profit.  If you're paying more than $0.10 you will actually be loosing money if you don't chase those pump/dump schemes.

It may not be profitable to mine Bitcoin, but the network needs to stay distributed and needs to handle the user transactions.  If it didn't then those 10K Bitcoins I'm sitting on would be useless (OK more like 6 BTC  )

Laptop mining has its chance when Bitcoin and Litecoin were in their infancy.  Now the network has grown and gone past CPUs, GPUs (for the most part), FPGA, and is not entering ASICs.

In basic English - the only things that can make cyrpto currency are specialized miners.  Either buy the hardware, cloud mine, or buy the coin.

There's no reason to jump the gun to a more difficult and costly architecture when the "older" stuff still hasn't been optimized.  Some of the 20/28nm stuff is not as efficient as it could/should be.  Now if 14nm was cheap that would be another story...
