Someone could be using your computer power to mine bitcoins for themselves. Worth checking, it's been done before.

mining bitcoin doesn't overheat your router m8

inb4 article on router mining

I missed the thread that stated his router is overheating.  That said, you have one or more of the following issues that may be eating up bandwidth:

1. Software updates (like windows, game or AV updates) taking place
2. Torrent server still active
3. Virus/bot running malware (like a mail server or ddos bot)
4. Possibly you wireless modem has a hijacker using your wifi (depends on type of wireless modem you have ( wifi router access or hotspot?)
5. Software backup/sync to cloud service running (Dropbox/one drive/Box/Gdrive/etc)

You have a little detective work ahead, but like mentioned earlier I would start with task manager to see what is active.  Then try installing some tracking software and running your antivirus.

Another example of lawyers going wild.....

Now confirmed in NY!

On their website it says that you either send them an email or just fill out
this form and then get your invite.

Looks like an email phishing form.  Only way I know to get an invite is to request one at inbox@google.com from your gmail address.

105  Other / Off-topic / Re: Why I do not like Linux OS - probably the worst soft in the world on: October 22, 2014, 11:15:10 PM
Funny thing is he is using Linux more than he knows....the routers, web servers, cell phones, switches, tablets, phone systems, DVRs, etc.

Yes Linux sucks {sarcasm}...but to date there isn't anything better or cheaper or all these vendors/manufacturers would be using it.

106  Other / Off-topic / After 45+ years, lawyers are suing for infringement on: October 22, 2014, 07:34:30 PM
This week I have read two articles about lawyers suing for copyright infringement or stolen materials even though the alleged activities happen a 1/2 century or more ago.  You would think there would be a statue of limitations on these type of lawsuits.

The first one is in regards to Led Zepplin's Stairway To Heaven.  The group "Spirit" claims the track was stolen from them.  If you listen to both songs, they are somewhat similar.

http://time.com/3528555/led-zeppelin-loses-first-round-in-stairway-to-heaven-lawsuit/

The next lawsuit has Oklahoma State suing NMSU over mascot likeness after 50 years of usage.  The two mascots are obviously the same.  Just wonder why it takes this long for them to come out of the wood works?

http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/ncaaf-dr-saturday/oklahoma-state-suing-nmsu-over-mascot-likeness-after-50-years-of-usage-162837594.html

I guess lawyers are always looking for a way to make a buck....even decades later....

107  Other / Off-topic / Re: Would you live in Mars? on: October 21, 2014, 02:05:43 AM
I think that going to mars is really a dumb idea, why would you go knowing that you going to die after few months Huh

Why would you die after a few months?

Because, Humans may only survive 68 days on Mars, Oxygen levels would start to deplete after about two months.

Do you have your head in the sand the last few years, or are you just gullible?  We've had people on the International Space Station for a lot longer than that.

That's is according to the news, even my self wonder about that.

ISS is resupplied every few months.  Don't know if we can resupply mars yet....

Anybody following this thread needs to listen to this podcast!  Excellent information and a complete thorough description about EVERYTHING talked about in this thread and other postings.  Listen to it in its ENTIRETY!  (skip ahead a few minutes (I think 11:20 min) to get past the intro and other BS)

I don't want to spoil the ending or the contents.  Trust me on this one.

Hope 1 or 2 of you take the time to actually listen and post back.

Fascinating......!

109  Other / Off-topic / Re: Alleged Low Energy Nuclear Reaction, reactor tested. on: October 13, 2014, 07:01:29 AM
I'm as skeptical as everyone in the article's comment sections and here on the forum.  And totally agree on additional scientific testing.  But the articles do state the following:

"has been verified by third-party researchers"

And

"This new report [PDF] on the E-Cat was carried out by six (reputable) researchers from Italy and Sweden."

And lastly

"This is not, of course, the last word or even one anywhere near the end of this story but unless this is one of the most elaborate hoaxes in scientific history it looks like the world may well be about to change."

With that said, I think it is fascinating that 20+ years after Ponds/Fleischmann's so claimed discovery that other scientist are stating:

"My belief is that if there's a one percent chance that Fleischmann and Pons were correct, and I now believe that possibility is 99 percent. I have a duty to work on it,"
(From the 60 minutes article link I posted earlier)

I don't believe in free energy or perpetual devices.  But at one time nuclear energy was an unknown.  Maybe...just maybe...they are starting to stumble across something.

(I was about to put up my flame shields....but I am not taking any sides on the issue so need to....I'm just posting observations I made.)

This is weird, but Rossi's E-cat cold fusion device was also independently confirmed in 2013.

From Forbes
http://www.forbes.com/sites/markgibbs/2013/05/20/finally-independent-testing-of-rossis-e-cat-cold-fusion-device-maybe-the-world-will-change-after-all/

(This in addition to the Oct 9th ExtremeTech article confirming)
111  Other / Off-topic / Re: Alleged Low Energy Nuclear Reaction, reactor tested. on: October 13, 2014, 04:08:17 AM
Interesting read.  Looks like people are lining up on opposite sides (believing/skeptical)

From the article:

Believe
http://www.extremetech.com/extreme/191754-cold-fusion-reactor-verified-by-third-party-researchers-seems-to-have-1-million-times-the-energy-density-of-gasoline

Say it's a hoax
http://hardware-beta.slashdot.org/story/13/05/23/155211/a-cold-look-at-cold-fusion-claims-why-e-cat-looks-like-a-hoax

I remember when the two Utah professors thought they had discovered cold fusion back in 1989.  The press and world in General went crazy.  The thought of cheap harness-able energy was a dream for everyone.  For years after they never really could explain these professors findings.

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/cold-fusion-is-hot-again/ (60 minutes 2009)

Maybe there is some other type of energy production (besides chemical/fusion/fission) taking place.  It would be nice for the world if it is safe and cheap!

-Edit-
The University of Utah professors were Martin Fleischmann and Stanley Pons.  From the 60 minutes article I linked to above, another scientist says:

"My belief is that if there's a one percent chance that Fleischmann and Pons were correct, and I now believe that possibility is 99 percent. I have a duty to work on it," he replied.

Very interesting.....cold fusion may not be too far away.....

Thank you for sharing the link. Bitmark looks like an interesting concept. Can you explain how the network recognizes Bitcointalk usernames and such?

It is sorta an off-board trust or ranking system.  I am not sure of all the details but here is the Marking wiki:

A friend was arrested in CO for money laundering and "operating an unauthorized money transfer service" related to bitcoin.

I'm looking for a referral to an attorney who is familiar with the relevant law and who could be available for a court appearance in Denver soon.

Wrong area...try this  https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?board=74.0

It is obvious that they all take and track our data in the web, but is there any other alternative?
Use VPN?
Don't use it? what if you need that services?
Maybe new decentralized services like storj for files uploads
But it is clear that there is not many alternatives

VPN is not going to help you from these companies tracking you.  But there is a lot you can do.

--Go Google Free--

For example, If using an Android phone and you are rooted, don't install GAPPS.  Use alternative google apks..for example:

-Use a browser like Dolphin instead of Chrome
-Use a different search engine like DuckDuckGo instead of Google search
-Use a different mapping service like Sygic GPS or Mapquest Navigation instead on google maps
-Use another calendar instead of Google's.  I use aCalendar
-Don't use gmail...find another provider and email apk.  Many people use K-9
-Use another store like Amazon or F-Droid store instead of Google Playstore
-Instead of gDrive or DropBox try owncloud
-Avoid using google contacts apk.  (Although I haven't found a real good replacement yet)
-Use an ad blocking apk like AdBlock or AdAway
-Use VPN services like OpenVPN, Onion Tor, or Hola! (VPN's offer additional layers of privacy but not from services you login into)

Want to see how much Google is tracking you?  Go here---->  https://www.google.com/dashboard

They track everything...your travel, search history, email history, who is in your contacts, etc....  You get the picture.  If you are looking for privacy, Google is one to avoid.

One last advice.  Turn on encryption.  If you lose your phone or someone tries snooping you will be protected.  Google and Apple both have indicated their new devices and OS will come with encryption turned on by default.

There is a possibility that he is banned.

Lol...that could be it.  He must still be lurking around with a new alias.  Damn, what could you do to get banned?  This forum is a forgiving as it gets!

119  Other / Off-topic / Anyone know what happen to LostDutchman? on: October 11, 2014, 06:15:52 PM
He was actively jamming out posts (3700+) for the last year and was always around.  But suddenly he has gone MIA the past few months.  Just curious why the LostDutchman is Lost!?

Somebody needs to encode this into a smaller file.  Don't really need a 1.6 gig documentary.
