Nice pop today with Bernanke saying will be continuing QE - acting like gold now.

Seems to have stabalized in the 70s - will it hold through though?

Post a hash signed message from your friend using the private key he sent the 7000 bitcoins from if you want to have any credibility in your accusations. Can you post the TX ID where your friend sent him the 7000 BTC to start?

No doubt plenty of software applications which serve a purpose can be HIGHLY successful being closed source. I mean who would not trust microsoft or apple (joking?). However, open source is the best way to have the most progress with the least resources - just look at Linux, an open source project which I think most would agree is a bit more secure than Windows:) But cryptocurrencies in particular need to be open source since trust is essential. People "trust" the alt coins since they are all just clones of bitcoin which has huge trust since its source code has been scruitinized under a microscope by very smart and able coders in the community. EMunie being a totally new code base does not inherit any of this trust these alt-coins will. The reason the alt-coins fail is not due to trust, it is due to they offer nothing new and any are very unfair due to pre-mining. Satoshi only pre-mined the first two blocks (and the first block the coins are inaccessible) then released it to the commuity. Those fortunate ones who saw the potential (or were just messing around) did well - and I bet many sold long long before the massive price appreciation.
I think any closed source crypto-currency is doomed to fail since success requires wide spread adoption which will not occur. Not in the enthusiast crypto-nerd communities who need to serve as the base for these types of projects and are critical to helping them get established. A pre-mine, even though not an automatic fail, definitely greatly reduces enthusiasm for the system.
The fact is the worry that someone will "steal" the open source code and steal eMunies thunder is an unrealistic problem. Look at bitcoin, it is opensource and none of these altcoins, even Litecoin, has a fraction of the following. Hell, most peopl who mine litecoins I suspect just convert them to bitcoins on the exchanges! If eMunie is a great and novel currency that serves an unmet need in an innovative manner, it will be adopted and people will stick with it versus script kiddie knock-offs since it will be the established parent currency. First mover advantage is everything as is the allure of being with the official currency and not some hack.
I mine primecoins for example...why? Do someday trade them for bitcoins:)

I was thinking, Bitcoin ASICs are basically optimized cryptographic processors at resolving SHA-256 hashing problems. Can't these ASICs be repurposed for the purpose of breaking strong encryption?

Why doesn't your friend just withdraw his investment? Warning: stop investing money into just-dice! It may be a scam. My friend with 7000 bitcoins invested says that dooglus has been ignoring him for over 4 days now.

Why has 1% of the total invested been chosen as the max bet amount? It seems very conservative. Would be nice if there could be a voting mechanism (with weight of votes based on weight of % of bankroll your investment represents) where investors select what they would like the max bet to be (maybe between 0% and 5% being choices). Then the max bet can be chosen in real-time as a weighted average. Any thoughts?

That was an excellent explanation - that should be published in a wiki or something.

Just-Dice has 3 huge advantages to the other dice programs out there: 1. You can choose your own odds - not just 5 or 10 or 20 choices, there is an infinite # of choices 2. It goes further than other dice sites to show it is fair 3. It does not clutter up the blockchain with dust since the BTC are deposited into an account and withdrawn at will
The big disadvantage is that you have to trust the site with your BTC. With Satoshi and the other dice programs, you only trust them with the amount you send for each individual bet. On Just-Dice, you need to trust everything deposited.
Still, overall, I prefer this to Satoshi and the other dice programs. Plus, it is nice that when you are not gambling, you could earn a little interest on your funds by "investing" them. Though, I actually have lost a bit investing so I guess the house does not always win!

Ok, still I do not think these USBs are good buys to use anymore. Though there does seem to be a very heathy resell market for these still on ebay with an easy 100% profit.

Vela, I don;t think they are "improved" - still worth buying them here and reselling on ebay where they going for $180/each

|

Are these the exact same type as sold in prior auctions?

Very colorful, here is the private key: 5KTJj2XjQiFCXMwNEhoJCpz9exodNBC9PMeQF5hhnABa4SVj2HL I think the point is that it still does not have as much entropy as a randomly generated key since it uses real words which are finite.

Ah, I see - though it does seem a little risky to keep all funds in a single cold wallet, no? Why put all BTC in one basket (so to speak)?
|
|
|
Is any of the bank roll kept in cold storage? How big is the hot wallet? I am interested in investing, but would be very risky if the site was compromised if most funds kept in a hot wallet.

I just read that - so it will be either dual GTX 680s or dual Radeon 9970s.

That is disappointing about eMunie being closed source and pre-mined. We should rename it YAScoin (Yet Another Sh*tcoin)

At some point, the owners (guessing mostly dorms) of these electricity "free" residences will notice the higher utilities and crack down on it.
|
|
|
A lot of ASICs starting to trickle in and soon it will be a gush - these will go to individuals who will join the pools. Asicminer will need either a crapload of their current technology come online soon or preferably, the newer technology to stay ahead on the hashrates and keep electricity costs competitive

They clearly state it is open-source on their forums. If it changes to close source, then it will be as dead as Ripple will be (even moreso without ripple's marketing). Also, where did you hear about a pre-mine?
