I just received  a notification email with tracking number for 1 hashboard that went out in early Dec.  I still have one other RMA for 1 controller and 3 hashboards.

HOPEFULLY, your other RMA gets worked out soon.  I think they may of had a lot of RMA's and it's taking a while to get to all of them.

EDIT:  Call them if you think you need to.  I called them.

EDIT #2:  I use ooma [Voice over IP].  You can find it at ooma.com.  It cost me 2.35 cents ($0.0235) per minute to talk to someone in China.  My monthly bill is less than $4 each month.  I prepay [or load up] my account for calling outside North America.  All calls made in North America are free [Well, $4.00 each month].  You will have to pay for the ooma base up front then it's cheap from there on out.  I bought mine used on eBay for cheaper than what you would pay on their website.  Your choice though.

I wouldn't leave with another 666.666 block.

Is there any news on a more efficient Miner...S8?

Typically the even numbered models use the same chips as the previous odd numbered models so it probably wouldn't be more efficient, just more hashrate.  If they introduce another higher hashrate with the same chips it will probably be an S7+ though.  The next jump in efficiency should be an S9.

If the S7+ comes out and looks similar to an S5+, I would rather continue buying S7.  The only way I would buy S7+ is if I could buy complete controllers and not just a BB Board without the Interface board for the fans and blades.

Update:

Got email from Bitmain/Sherry with tracking number for 2 x batch 5 replacement boards. +1
Got email in regards to batch 8 defective boards. +1

Should have happened a lot earlier, but at least we got some movement going in the right direction.

thanks,  Smiley

Update:

I too received an email notification of my 3 replacement blades on the way and got a UPS shipment notification of package on the way from China.

Also just putting it out there but last night I lost internet for 10-15 minutes, didn't find out until this morning, and both of my S7's set to 60% manual fans did just fine.  One is batch 5 with original firmware and one is batch 8 also with original firmware.

There may be a possibility of a higher chip count system running a lower average clock rate as an incremental efficiency increase...

Is that what was done with the S4+ and the S5+?

Let me know how the FAN works out for you David.  I'm interested if they're anywhere as powerful as the listed ratings.

Will do.

I'm actually checking them out on Amazon right this very moment.  I'm looking at dual and single options; Reading reviews; etc...

I'm coming closer to making a decision.  I believe I found the right brand [Flex-a-lite] that is made in the USA.  I'm trying to decide which model of theirs to purchase.

I'm guessing my post went over your head there, bub. Lol

Yes sir...  I must be out of the loop or just behind from my old age.  Get me up to speed please sir.

I am glad to hear this, but the whole process is truly convoluted to say the least.
Spond was providing HST on the airbill. I don't see why BMT cannot do the same-the number that you researched.
as far as UPS/FEDEX from China-UPS is a bit faster, FEDEX is a bit cheaper and FEDEX is more prone to get stuck according to others (over the last two years or so), but i never experienced this myself. i am using UPS from BMT, but FEDEX ground domestically, especially in vicinity as it is both cheap and fast.

Same here.  I've tried both and liked the speed of UPS.  I've had UPS do a total of 9 shipments for me from China thus far.  8 of them went flawlessly.  This last one, however, ended up creating cause for concern.  I've had people who chose both UPS and FedEx go through a similar situation as mine.

Hence, the reasoning behind me taking the following action:

1.  Add the proper HST CODE out to the right of my street address for my account at bitmaintech.com
2.  Add the proper HST CODE out to the right of my Federal EIN/SSN number for my business on my account at bitmaintech.com
3.  Have UPS call me from now on anytime a shipment for me arrived inside the US from another country to allow me to provide the proper HST CODE.
4.  Add a NOTE to the carrier on bitmain's website when placing the order that includes the proper HST CODE.

I have copied my post with my customer service experience and sent it to myself in a PM as future reference if I should have to post it in the forum again.  We will see how long this takes for me to get my 3 replacement blades for Batch 8 S7's.

If it continues to take much longer, I will have to WARN everyone... plain and simple.  I still cannot comprehend WHY it is taking more than 30 days to get 3 replacement blades.  They have my old ones but that's not doing me any good cause the blades cannot work towards ROI without being in my possession.  This is quite frustrating.

Thanks dmwardjr I will wait then as you are till end of January.

Sure.. it's only been 4 months of blank stares and ignored tickets about the compensation(s) and other refund related issues at Bitmaintech. What's another few more months amongst fan-boys?
 Cheesy

After looking at your local time, that explains the use of the word, "fan-boys."  I'm not desperate for 0.7 BTC to be delivered to my wallet immediately.  Others may be.  I'm not.  As long as I receive compensation is all that matters.

Those who are waiting for a replacement board under warranty, mine just shipped. Faulty board was delivered to Bitmain on Jan 4, replacement was shipped on the 11th, scheduled to be delivered on Friday.

MINE WERE ALSO DELIVERED ON THE 4TH OF JANUARY.  I HAVE YET TO RECEIVE AN EMAIL TELLING ME MY 3 NEW BLADES ARE ON THE WAY.  I SENT THEM THE SHIPPING NUMBER TWICE.  YET NO UPDATE.

1055  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 6 Vs Antminer S7, which one you will choose? on: January 12, 2016, 07:04:58 PM
Glad to hear it all worked out.  Only problem I ever had was a weight issue.  UPS somehow picked my package that was a Bitmain PSU for checking... and it weighed more then declared.  So I had to pay like 10 dollars was not bad.

That is all i have had to pay for mistakes.   US is pretty good overall on importing compared to a lot of the EU costs.

I sent another email thanking them for their adjustment and keeping me updated.

Everything looks like it will be okay... Thank goodness!
1056  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Avalon 6 Vs Antminer S7, which one you will choose? on: January 12, 2016, 05:16:06 PM
I use fedex because it is cheaper shipping by at least 10$ and always smooth deliver. I know it depends on location whether UPS or fedex is cheaper for the individual.

I sent an email to UPS late last night basically telling them I should not be responsible to pay for a mistake made by one of their employees.  I also told them I'm using another carrier until and/or unless they make the proper refund I am due for their tariff mistake.

They responded with the following reply:

---------------------------------------------

David

I am writing regarding the filing of the Post Entry claim that we have in our office. We will be filing this within the next couple of weeks to CBP and at that time we will credit your account. Unfortunately, we cannot file until the 15th business day after the month in which it was entered based on CBP guidelines

Walt is sending a notice to accounting to let them know the entry is in dispute, although you may get another bill from UPS you can short pay the bill by 780.09 and we will adjust that amount once the claim is filed…it looks like you will owe 109.54 for Customs Merchandise Processing fee and disbursement fee. The duty amount will be in dispute

I have also asked my Philadelphia partners to reach out to you regarding future shipments and how you want them processed.

Please let me know if you have any questions, and I apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you.

---------------------------------------------

I'm fine with the $109.54 charge for Customs Merchandise Processing fee and disbursement fee.  No problem with that at all for $30,000 worth of merchandise.

rockyforever might understand better if he gets an $800 bill upon delivery.  Dmwardjr IS IN THE UNITED STATES and DID get a BIG ASS BILL.
Not sure your point. U.S. does not have tariffs or import fees. The bill was due to clerical error and wrong HST posted on shipping documents. So me receiving a BIG ASS BILL means I now pay a tariff in the U.S. Kilo? So maybe I should contact customs to let them know I didn't pay a BIG ASS BILL for my S7s?

Again your point?

UPS put a wrong HST code on my last S7 and sent me a bill for $67. I just called the number on the bill and told them it's a data processor, the rep took care of the bill right there and then and sent me an email confirmation within 30 mins.

Thanks for sharing.  I think the reason why they are making me go through more red tape and not as willing to do that quick of a refund is the dollar amount.  Which pisses me off...  THEIR employee makes a mistake to cost me a lot of money and they [A multi billion dollar company] cannot give me a proper refund without a hassle.  I'm using FedEx from now on until I hear I have a refund.  If I don't get a refund, I will never use UPS again.

Dave,

I'm not sure about using those. What's the duty cycle on them? Car radiator fans don't run 100% of the time the car is on, and I don't think they're built for it.

Thanks for chiming in.  That's why I wanted opinions for this application.  I'm not sure on the duty cycle.  It sounds like I need to do some research.

EDIT:  If you happen to know of a 12 inch fan with long duty cycle and low watts, please let me know.

Yep, don't want to end up with something that won't do the job and have to buy twice. Might end up having to use something 120/240v since a 100% duty cycle fan will probably tend to be AC in that format I imagine? Not sure though.

They are $29.99 each.  So, they are not very expensive at all.  I think I will go ahead and order 8 of them and an IBM 2000 BB PSU.  I already have a breakout board.  I want to see how they do before I buy 16 of them.

By the way, could I simply reverse polarity on my hookup to the PCI-e cords to get the blades to rotate in the appropriate direction if I need to OR will I need to take the propeller off and reverse it?  It says they can be used as push or pull which has me believe reversing polarity may do the job.

Quick google search about reversed polarity:

Quote
It depends on the exact type of DC motor.

If it's a modern DC motor, with an electronic controller, you can't, not without changing a strapping option onthe controller chip, sometimes not even then.

If it's a permanent magnet motor with a commutator, just reverse the polarity, although some such motors are not designed to be reversed and will work poorly or burn up the brushes.

If it's a DC motor with a stator winding, reversing the polarity will NOT reverse the direction of rotation, you have to reverse either the polarity going to the stator or to the brushes.

So, it may work that way.

Does anyone see an issue with powering the radiator fans with an IBM 2000W BB PSU?  I'm going to take the plunge to try it out.  I need to know before I purchase 8 of them on Amazon to install in one door of my mining closet.

Any help would be appreciated.  I personally don't see an issue powering them with the IBM 2000W BB PSU.  I just want to make sure.  One of you may know something I don't...

I would think the way to wire it up is similar to the way Kilo wired up his 180mm fan for the 3 x IBM 2880's.

Yes, it will power them just fine. 12V DC is 12V DC, the fan won't know what's supplying the power.

I don't know if this is something that needs to be considered, but genrally a charged car battery is about 12.8v and close to ~14.4v while the alternator is charging. The DPS2000 will be 12.25v unless you play with it. Shouldn't be an issue I imagine, just slightly different amperage.

WOW...

Thanks for the reply, Prelude.  Much appreciated.

I'm going to order only 2 of them and mount them behind one grille in the mining closet door to see how they do.  They may not have as much CFM as they state.  We'll see.

Might consider this switch in that application as well:

EDIT:  Scratch that.  3 amps output and I would need 6.6 amps.
