We have made side bets with many members this season. We didn't feel the need of using escrow as we trusted each other. I even created a spreadsheet to be able to follow these. For the ones who would like to take a look at: spreadsheetI guess side bets is quite some fun and even though I saw people making their own bets here from time to time, I've never seen a dedicated thread for it. Actually after creating the spreadsheet Harkorede recommended me to open a new topic for "side bets". I also found it reasonable however I forgot to open the topic. I'm going to open a topic related to side bets tonight. I will make an announcement here as well after opening the topic. I hope that the topic would be beneficial for everyone. Luckily, trust has been established already thats why its easy to wager with its individual bets and pay after once lose. However, for those who are still new and want to do wagering in bitcointalk, then dont be too trusting at first. Know your peer well and maybe establish a bond first before you decide to wager with each other. And do not jump into huge bets, who knows your wagering partner can be transparent at first but later on show his true colors and wont be replying on you anymore. It's a gamble - Verstappen ends up on pole position 58% of the time this season. If the question was Verstappen or anybody else, than I guess risking it would be a good way to go. Fastest lap is a more interesting one though - I just don't know who to pick. Again - Verstappen's got it 43% of the time - but from all other drivers only Perez and Hamilton won it twice. You are right about the topic that Verstappen is the favourite. However if you take a risk you get one step ahead as all of the others pick Verstappen. It is a similar tactic to your not including Haaland in your squad to win free bets in the fantasy football pool. Surprises are more common to be seen when it comes to fastest laps. However, I've already been asked if late payment is possible, and I'm going to say yes, on case by case. We don't want a situation where people "test" their performance and decide not to pay when they don't do well. Generally, if you've got an account in good standing, I'll accept late payment. Let's say no later than 2 October (Matchday 2). Anyone who commits but doesn't pay will take a hit to their reputation. =D
In my pools I prefer to give out loans rather than allow for late payment. That way escrow address is always up to date and people will think twice before defaulting loan with reputable member. On the other hand deciding to not play can be justified in many ways and is difficult to red tag those persons while I would have no problem red tagging somebody who defaulted on loan. If you decide to go that way I can probably help with few members if necessary. I agree with Trofo about this topic absolutely. I made a mistake in the F1 pool unfortunately and I'm still blaming myself because of this.
How come I didn't have an idea about the F1 pool? The BSFL league has transformed the way I look at numerous sports, including Dota games. I would have sworn on my grandmother's boyfriend's brother's grave that I would never check or care about F1 or Dota games in my life, but now I do all thanks to the BSFL league. Being a one-sport person is tedious during the off season, but being a multi-sport person provides an advantage. Last season, I made x5 of what I paid to join three pools, ignoring freebet earnings.
