1061  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [BUTTCOIN] The bitcoin week in review: Panic! At the Bitcoin! on: August 08, 2011, 12:19:20 PM
I recall the many many issues with the politics forum, that place just needed to have subsections is all.

The mods on the forums do not have full access to delete posts.   I think it is maybe time to try to trust the staff a little and give them a chance to not turn this into a police state and allow them to actually moderate.

But without this place linking from Bitcoin.org, these things honestly do not matter, this is just a dying user base.  I stick around because I like enough of the established members.
1062  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: just posted on mybitcoin.com on: August 08, 2011, 05:05:59 AM
His next trick.  Is to somehow do something to bring the value of Bitcoin itself back up to make his booty worth that much more, thus spurring heavy market activity.   Or that is just what I want to happen lol.
1063  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Other sources of Bitcoin Discussion... on: August 08, 2011, 05:02:41 AM
Yeah, reddit is a generally a very friendly and knowledgeable community, although as it grows obviously this is somewhat diluted, but overall I would still say the quality is high.

Karma system really keeps quality in check.  Helps bias stay out mostly and leave it as a good general news source.
1064  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Unofficial attendence list - Bitcoin Conference & World Expo 2011 NYC on: August 08, 2011, 12:06:05 AM
Register Online Now
Conference Admission     2 Bitcoins per person
Vendor's Display Table     10 Bitcoins per Vendor

http://bitcoinme.com/index.php/bitcon-2011/

With the price of Bitcoin so low, everyone who was just attending should be jumping on getting a table now for the hell of it.

Oh wait, I see it in check out now, bait and switch lol

Quote
Conference Admission per Person 3.2258 BTC

Vendor's Display Table 16.1290 BTC

The price to get in keeps on rising, everyone better get in now before you can't afford it :p

I would totally let Joel scam me  Kiss

Seriously.  Scammers though I have yet to stop me from trusting those who I already have had trust in based on their words alone.    Can't stop using all goods and services, otherwise the terrorists win.
1066  Other / Meta / Re: WTF indeed on: August 07, 2011, 11:47:41 PM
Problem with threads?

Make a thread about.

Where?

Bitcoin Discussion forum of course.

Sarcasm?

Hell yes.  This thread reported.
1067  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "Tom Williams" likely sold the entire myBTC.com bank @ ~13 and bought back at $8 on: August 07, 2011, 11:46:59 PM
Hey, I do 50/50 trolling and serious posts.

I think your numbers are off.
1068  Other / Meta / Re: Maybe I'll have better luck in Meta on: August 07, 2011, 11:16:08 PM
What about a Bitcoin chatroom with different subcategories for those who feel like voicing their opinions?  It may help to alleviate the volume of such opinions on the forum itself.

"The Forum" is done.

People using these forums at this point are just old members for the most part until the next update in the SERPs.   Bitcoin.org does not wish for it's users to voice their opinions in the same place most development takes place.   Makes complete sense, separate the users from the makers so no one gets what they want.

These chat options are still linked from the official site though:

1069  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: mtgoxlive.com chart wrong? on: August 07, 2011, 11:10:22 PM
how come the http://mtgoxlive.com chart is different to the http://bitcoincharts.com/markets/mtgoxUSD.html chart in terms of market depth...?

I thought Mt Gox Live = Official? http://www.prweb.com/releases/2011/7/prweb8656007.htm

Why would they be wrong, and not claiming that the Bitcoincharts one is the wrong one?
1070  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitcoin WebHosting [New!] on: August 07, 2011, 11:06:21 PM
How can one keep such steady pricing with such a crazy market.

Also, to adapt to mass changes in value over the markets, how immediate can your prices change?
1071  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Other sources of Bitcoin Discussion... on: August 07, 2011, 11:05:00 PM

This.  Reddit and all it's subreddit's have always been better than the ex-Official Forums.

Can't beat a built in user/comment karma system that everyone always wanted as a feature on these boards.

All you message board owners, make sure all links pointing to your site are with the keyword "Bitcoin Forums"

All you people wanting to just spam the people who are looking for Bitcoin discussion from the Official site, target the term "Bitcoin Forums"
1072  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: cmon lets help ourselves on: August 07, 2011, 10:55:46 PM
Good idea.  A month ago.   People have been hoarding Bitcoin too much.  But this thread is super unrealistic at this point.
1073  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [BUTTCOIN] The bitcoin week in review: Panic! At the Bitcoin! on: August 07, 2011, 10:52:15 PM
Whoever runs it seems to have a good grasp on the reality of Bitcoins: that currently it's biggest detriment is it's userbase.

Well shit, someone better make a community so we can discuss and improve things, because right now Bitcoin.org linking to a Google search result instead of here is going to slow the influx of people having a place to let their interest in Bitcoin grow.

So if the theory is the userbase is currently the detriment, then it is downward spiral time, because it is just the current userbase that is on these forums and all newcomers are being directed to no specific place.

I want to say I wish the people who made that decision thought it through more, but I sadly think they did and just no longer give a crap about progressing Bitcoin so purposely disconnected themselves from it's general users.

The tin foil hat on me ponders if someone behind the scenes is a scammer.  Makes sense to not want to have a central place for people to corroborate information if you desire to keep people ignorant.

Buttons? Avatars?  What kind of graphics?  For specific sites?  Users on the forums?

Or D, all of the above?

Also, I am not creative all the time, any ideas anyone has but don't know how to use the Photoshop, post 'em Smiley
1075  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Are bitcoins your dirty little secret? on: August 07, 2011, 10:30:26 PM
I mention Bitcoin in many different circles, so far no one has ever shown enough interest to think anything other than "oh that is neat"

A family member I told says that Bitcoin would cause havoc, riots, etc if it catches on.   That family member is also super religious, not sure if they are tied together, but I am pretty sure a money that can unify the nations is part of the sign of the times.
1076  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I am putting Bitcoin.us domain name up for auction. on: August 07, 2011, 10:16:53 PM
I haven't heard of a single one of those sites. Money well-wasted if you ask me.

Just checking the first few links.  Social.com has nothing up, but I think we all can see the value in that domain.  DomainName.com, smart, a person is paying their bills with that site and that was just bought a couple of months ago.   Aktien.de is new, will give it time to see what they are up to.

RunningShoes.com, this one seems like someone with a grasp of the value of a domain, and will probably succeed based on that alone, but I think that site could be coded for SERPs better, but visually they look like every other site that would do shoes e-commerce, they'll be fine.

I can go no further, most of these seem like decent buys.
1077  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [BUTTCOIN] The bitcoin week in review: Panic! At the Bitcoin! on: August 07, 2011, 10:07:35 PM
Buttcoin is OG, has been around since before I was into Bitcoin.
1078  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Profitable BTC site potentially for sale... on: August 07, 2011, 10:03:30 PM
If I were to sell, I would ideally want to sell to someone who is known in the community as at least being reliable. I have built this site up with a reputation to the customers and do not want to have it tarnished even if it's no longer mine.

How about you hire someone to do the data entry work?

I have no time for tech side of your site as far as programming, but I can make time to ensure orders are done.  I already see the name of BTCDeals being tarnished in other Bitcoin areas because of what seems to be the site taking a back seat to other projects or just whatever it is you need to do in life, which I understand and respect.

You'd have to give it to me in order for me to earn the money to buy it.  Unless it was that cheap, and by that, I mean I have about $20 to spare at the moment.

I might be able to bring a lot of e-Commerce help to the table to make it more attractive to just hold onto the site yourself and maybe expand.
1079  Other / Meta / Re: What Happened to Matthew N. Wright? on: August 07, 2011, 09:57:44 PM
I still think he was a non-intentional "scammer".   Just a guy who has a lot of good ideas but needs to follow through with them himself before posting about them.   People are way too harsh on him, however his dealing and reactions to how people are to him could be worked on as well.
1080  Other / Off-topic / Re: What if you had to choose... on: August 07, 2011, 09:49:56 PM
I would choose general choices that aren't references to things I don't fully grasp.  I know it is Aliens and Fallout we are talking here, but I am not versed in either Sad

So I guess my choices are Movies or Video Games.  I am going games every time.
