1101  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: Rebranded 5870 (6870) for only $130 on Newegg on: May 09, 2013, 05:19:42 PM
Man you could have waited for me to get my hands on these before you told everyone!   Cry

Now I just have to hope they don't go out of stock…  However, we can assume that Sapphire has quite a few of these laying around.  They obviously had enough 5870's leftover to justify the time spent re-branding it as a 6870.

...

Since we are in the Newbies section (and I am still pretty much noob), can you explain to me why this would fail for LTC?

...

I would presume because the Scrypt algorithm method used by LTC mining is more dependant on using Random Access Memory in conjuntion with the GPU processor(s).

Depending on what you have your thread concurrency set to, mining will use less or more ram.  In the case of cards with less vram, the optimal thread concurrency values typically end up being in a range that it suitable for the amount of vram the card has.  My 6950s use 500mb and they are the 1gb versions.  Mine at 450khps each.

Bought motherboard.  No escrow, he is shipping first. So far so good!
1105  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: Mining Rigs on: May 09, 2013, 02:21:29 AM
Yeah I'm talking about scrypt.  GPU mining is dead for SHA.  I am not trying to compete with 5GH/s for $200  Shocked
1106  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 7970's getting under 700Kh/s Scrypt? on: May 09, 2013, 01:49:45 AM
I shall do my best good sir Smiley

First i need a bit of info:

What are the exact make/models of both cards?

What is your intensity, -g and thread concurrency set to?

Are you doing setx GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100 in a cmd window before running cgminer, then closing it, then opening a new cmd for cgminer?

What are your clock and voltage settings?

I am doing xset.  My cards are both Gigabyte, one is a GHz edition, other one is regular.  The GHz edition gets 660 at 1000core and 1500mem and the reguler one gets 600 at 900core and 1540 mem  I have the intensities at 20.  The thread concurrency is set to 20992 for both of them.

That's definitely an option.  But next thing you know I have Paypal sending me bills for $200 each  Angry

Urrm, don't mean to be a dick, but it wouldn't be that hard to achieve that speed for that price.. I mean, i'd tell someone where to buy, what to buy and how to put it together, would cost them less, but luckily for you i'm in the U.K Tongue

Yeah.  I mean, say you have 4 7950's which could get 2400khs for $1200 and the computer itself for $400.  Next thing you know you are at $1600 and you still need to build the thing.  At that point, you might as well have me do it  Grin
1109  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Want your opinions on mining rigs on: May 09, 2013, 01:38:05 AM
Honestly, I'd rather just buy the parts and build it myself than have someone else build it and then have to pay to ship it.  But I don't know, maybe someone less technically inclined would go for this.  I just think shipping is going to be the killer.

I am targeting people who wouldn't build a PC on their own for this.  Realistically, if you build your own you could probably get similar results as far as $/khps, but you have to do a lot to get maximum performance out of it.  Plus, building a PC can be time consuming.

As far as shipping goes, I should probably mention that if you wanted one of these you would have to live in the U.S.  There is no way that I would send a computer overseas.
1110  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: 7970's getting under 700Kh/s Scrypt? on: May 09, 2013, 01:30:59 AM
I have 2 7970's, one that can reach 660 and then another that only gets 600.  If you actually get em both above 700 I just might have some LTC for you…
1111  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Want your opinions on mining rigs on: May 09, 2013, 01:29:25 AM
That seems to be a very reasonable price, almost borderline "too low" but I might be interested.  Maybe you get wholesale cost on some of the items or something, but that hash-rate seems very high for only $1500 or so.  Any additional information about your supplier, cost model and process would help ease my concern and probably others too Smiley

Thanks!

Yeah that's the reaction I was expecting.  If I stumbled across this thread then I would definitely think that it was "too good to be true".  For now, I would like to remain quiet about how this speed can be achieved.  I just want straight up opinions from people based on the given information.  If there is a lot of interest, and I actually go through with this, then I will share all of the information that you guys want about it.  If I am selling a product, I wouldn't want to keep anything hidden.
1112  Other / Beginners & Help / Want your opinions on mining rigs on: May 09, 2013, 01:20:18 AM
I was wondering if any of you who are either a) new to mining or b) hesitant to buy and build your own mining computer would be interested in purchasing a pre-assembling mining PC.

I don't have anything ready right to ship now, but I want to get a feel for the market.

I would be able to offer a computer that mines Litecoin (as it is more profitable than BTC) at a rate of 2500khps for $1500-$1600
A system such as this would consume somewhere in the ballpark of 1Kw of electricity.

If there is interest, I would start making things and start selling them.  Obviously nobody is going to buy one of these things today without pictures proof and everything.  I know that.  I just want to see how many of you would actually buy something at these prices (or even think this is a good idea) given that the aforementioned stats do turn out to be true.

Thanks
1113  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: 2x 7970 GHz edition won't go beyond 1125Mhz on: May 09, 2013, 12:04:35 AM
You are simply overclocking too high.  You can try boosting the voltage on the cards if you really wish to surpass the 1125MHz mark.

Would anybody be interested in purchasing a prebuilt mining rig, capable of 2500kh/s for ~$1600?  I don't have anything ready right now; I am just trying to get a feel for the market.
1115  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] PCI-E Risers w Molex @ Cryptocables - Official Feedback, CS, Q&A Thread on: May 08, 2013, 09:34:20 PM
Bought a few cables from the site last Wednesday.  There was a slight mix-up and only 2 of my cables where shipped on time.  However, they promptly fixed the situation and now I have all the cables I ordered Grin

Great customer service, good prices, and fast shipping.  I'll definitely be buying from them again.

Do you have any idea if this board can support 6 gpus?

Hmmm.....

Quote
Why may you ask do I use the 6870s instead of the common 7950s well its simple for around 900w total Power Usage (tested from the wall at full load) I can run at 2.1Kh/s. Sapphire 6870s use a Cypress GPU which is better than most of the Barts 6870s and allow it to get much better results for the power and are also 1/3 the price.

That explains the kh/s rates. Someone just slapped a 6870 sticker on it, even though it is just a 5870. (Rebranded)
Can anyone actually find any info on these "cards". I can't find any info about them on the sapphire site (all of their 6870s use the Barts like they should).
The only thing that pops up for me is something on techpowerup that says these were supposedly released this year. (Sapphire HD 6870 1600SP Edition)

Well now I feel better. Actually was starting to think someone knew of some magic way to make a 6870 get that many kh/s.
Just smoke and mirrors. haha.  Wink

If I can get my hands on one of these GPU's, I'm going to.

Edit:  Looks like this things have 1600 shader units!?!??!  Anybody know where to get one?

Here's where I recently got mine from.  If you are in the US, this is definitely the way to go.

You seem to be a pretty honest guy, but I guess at this point I am just wondering why you aren't posting screenshots or pictures of the setup.  If you are indeed being honest about this, I am sure that you could easily post a picture.  This would not only give you credibility, but it would also positively affect how quickly you could sell this thing too.

When you say roasted do you literally mean the board shorted out and started burning?  Or did it just stop working?
