Well, if it's not +.6%, then a flat $5 isn't too bad, I will have to give them another look.

In all fairness, it used to be higher and other options were cheaper.  But with the demise of Tradehill and other exchanges having issues with fraudulent deposits, wire transfers or OTC are some of the few options available.

Edit, it's unclear what the rates are because it looks disabled (for deposits at least 13Mar12).
1162  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Australian bitcoin exchanges on: March 12, 2012, 03:21:45 AM
Looks like they've lowered their fees a bit... but $5 + .6%?  So really, for real withdrawals, it's more like $11+ ... wayyy too much.

That +0.6% looks to be for Gox deposits/withdraw.

If you want "way too much" try exchanging currency out of Australia (or other international transfers) and consider the 4%+ that most options slug you for.

I've used them for a deposit before and shifted BTC so have yet to worry too much about their cost, but $5 was pretty cheap compared to other options.

I've read about Liberty Dollars and the crime associated with it, it is hardly comparable.  I am not trying to usurp the legal tender with something I make in a garden shed.

Edit: US justice system != elite bankers

Fees are too high for bank withdrawls.

I haven't used them for extracting AUD, but from their fees page.  $5 does not look excessive.

Depositing & Withdrawing Currency Fees:
$5 Flat Fee - deposit or withdraw with any supported currency.
For all deposits and withdrawals from Crypto X Change, send and withdraw unlimited amounts (Up to $500 can be withdrawn before you verify your ID – AML)
25+ inbound currencies supported, 120+ outbound currencies supported, deposit via internet banking or with a cash deposit at your local bank branch.
Funds in and out of the exchange usually take 24-48 hours from the time sent, our system is 100% automated and the funds will show in your Crypto X Change account as soon as they arrive.

Philosophically, I can't think of banking and elite being used properly in the same sentence (a malapropism) like military intelligence.

Seriously? Controlling the banks and the creation of currency is the work of the lower class, right?

If you believe in classes, then you can elevate ordinary people to some exhalated position, but in reality they are just people.  To suggest they are better than you are tells me you need more self esteem.  I give you credit for being able to do things well, and we have seen many people (including leaders of large companies and banks) screw up worse than most people that contribute to this forum.

I think you're injecting your own meaning for "elite" into this. You said "To suggest they are better than you"...that is not what I mean by "elite" and "lower class". I am using those terms in their usual meaning in regards to finances. Those with control of the monetary system have a shitload more money and resources. They are 'elite' because they own yachts and can pay hundreds of employees. 'Lower class' are people trying to get by with a shitty job.

'Classes' in the modern world SHOULD be determined by ability - the way you are defining them - but that isn't the generally perceived notion.

Ah, so a simple material wealth/power metric.  Maybe I'm being too wishful, but to get things back on track:

I would have thought the "elite" would not deign to lower themselves to the level of bitcoin as it would be easy for them to be dismissive (arrogance or ignorance).  I don't notice an overt bias in the trolling against bitcoin, but then my own bias might filter that out (ref Holliday filtering how he reads things occasionally.)
1166  Other / Meta / Re: People paid by banking elite to troll this Forum? on: March 12, 2012, 02:33:33 AM
Also, thank you Holliday for your reply.  Not quite the point I was making - I should have made it clearer.

Sometimes I read things and see what I want, instead of seeing what the author intended.  Grin

And in this case I was correctly punished for it.

So, if I paid you in bitcoin, you could troll and I would be "banking elite" (i.e. better than someone else).

How hard were you looking?

If I pay someone to troll this thread can I be banking elite?  I could pay several people (would bitcoins be ok), but some will do it for free anyway.  More realistically, we'd have to pay the bankers because they don't do anything for free (a fee maybe).

Philosophically, I can't think of banking and elite being used properly in the same sentence (a malapropism) like military intelligence.  Otherwise, I assume chaos theory might suggest order coming from the randomness of the mixed views that propagate that the guys across at MasterCard will be unhappy with.
1170  Economy / Services / Re: GPUMAX | The Bitcoin Mining Marketplace on: March 12, 2012, 01:56:21 AM
This issue could be resolved somewhere in this thread but I sure as hell cant find it, I apologize if it's there:

I would like to setup gpumax and my rigs in a fashion where, they work at gpumax whenever public work is available and to work in P2pool when it is not.
I know how to set them up in fashion where the rigs would try mining at gpumax at first and if it fails then swap to P2pool for X shares... after which try back at gpumax (rinse and repeat)
I think (am not sure) that I however am not able to set up a worker at gpumax without specifying a "failover" pool. Is this possible ? If it isnt could you make it possible? (seems like a very small tweak). Is there something im not taking in to account ?

+1

By default they do public work then fail over to the default pool and that is influenced by the price you place on workers.  There is an option to do private work only (no GPUmax public shares).  I have not seen an option to request your miners to hash elsewhere for a set number of hashes.  Not sure why you would want a worker that didn't have a private pool as backup.

Presumably your fail-over pool is p2p, so I'm not sure what you're after that isn't what you're already doing.
1171  Economy / Lending / Re: [LOAN NEEDED] 180 BTC on: March 12, 2012, 01:26:32 AM
Just as an update, this has been repaid.  There were a few hiccups due to a bad transfer mechanism on an exchange that held things up, but I am happy with my experience extending credit to trentzb.
1172  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: {ANNOUNCEMENT} WBX Exchange Frozen on: March 12, 2012, 01:09:43 AM
In today's announcement there is no timeline for the return of clients' funds.

I have been holding the WBX Bitcoins in an offsite account, for safekeeping.  They're all accounted for, and are available to withdraw right now for users with BTC balances.  I transfer them back to the WBX wallet as and when they're needed.

The server emails me when it's short of Bitcoins, so if there's ever a delay with your BTC withdrawal, it's because the server wallet was emptied and is waiting for me to transfer more in from the offsite wallet.

This is something I was doing for Andre rather than leaving them on the WBX server, in an attempt to prevent a Linode style theft.

Thanks for providing that information.  For those with coins, that at least makes it easier (although I would have thought most coins would have been shifted long before now).

Any information of the dollar balances?  I have half tied up in pending withdrawal status and half waiting to move.

Also, this:

mmm, crowd diving.  Wonder what the rock concert was.  (must be scary in the mosh pit)
1174  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTB] Dead 5970 reference graphic card on: March 11, 2012, 07:26:50 PM
I'll bite.  I have a dead 5970, intact (still has the heatsink attached currently).  Used the fan on another card.  It'll cost me to ship, so I'll offer it up for US80 being less than your 100, but more than my pissing around time/effort.  I will have to put the screws back into the backing plate.
1175  Other / Off-topic / Re: March 11, 2012 or Bitcoin Tsunami Day on: March 10, 2012, 07:10:25 PM
I have my coffee, and it's March 11.  Waiting with expectation.
1176  Economy / Goods / Re: [WTB] Pokemon Games (perhaps cards) on: March 10, 2012, 06:32:19 AM
Despite Ash being a douche - my daughter has been a pokemon fan for 13+ years.  I have a working N64 console with two pokemon games.  We also have various GB, GB-colour and later versions, plus figures, and cards.  Not sure if we have the videos still.
1177  Economy / Lending / Re: [CLOSED] 50 BTC Loan - 14 Days - 5% Interest on: March 09, 2012, 09:22:07 PM
Repaid in full and on time.  No hassles Smiley
1178  Economy / Marketplace / Re: Got my BFL Single today and I'm giving it away for 0.5BTC! on: March 09, 2012, 12:34:31 AM

I will not post anything inflammatory for 72 hours.

Can we raffle this?

(going into a coma would not count)
1179  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: {ANNOUNCEMENT} WBX Exchange Frozen on: March 09, 2012, 12:26:06 AM
I sent an email to the site developer and actually got a response.  I'm not sure what is going on, but they don't appear to be gone yet.  I'm still hopeful they'll be back, but it would help if they posted a public update.

Because I'm UTC+13, can I have it early? (Friday afternoon already Smiley  )
