121  Economy / Economics / Re: What is causing last few days' run-up? on: November 06, 2020, 06:22:20 PM
• Microstrategy adopted a Bitcoin standard
• Grayscale increased their Bitcoin AUM and hold about 2.4% of total supply
• PayPal integrated Bitcoin into its platform
• A number of other public companies bought and hold Bitcoin.
You're pretty spot on here.

It's very possible that fresh capital from institutions are playing a big role in this price run, even though we found out about Microstrategy moving to btc like a month ago, and Grayscale have been in this market for quite some time now. Maybe there was a bit of a delay between that smart money entering the btc ecosystem and a rapid move upward in the btc price because of it, but regardless, it's

But I think the 'Paypal event' is the onetriggered this this tremendous surge. The big difference between this one and the smart money from institutions is that Paypal is a well-known company to the general public, it's the kind of company that the average joe trusts and if they see Paypal are jumping into the btc bandwagon, which by the way further legitimizes Bitcoin, it's very likely that they'll also want to try it out. Add in that there's been an increasing bullish sentiment since late September, and you have recipe resembling the 2017 bull run.

I agree that Paypal has given bitcoin some sort of 'legitimacy' for those not familiar with crypto because its trusted by many. A lot still have their doubts over BTC because its associated with the scam projects and its not even widely adopted yet. We could probably add in that this pandemic has also forced us into relying on digital functionality.

I think the increasing bullish sentiment has also contributed to other investors' FOMO, fearing that they miss out to a possible bull run just like last 2017. Seeing the price jump in this October to November might have made the others want to buy in before its too late. Many are now positive now that BTC has breached 2019's high.

122  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: pano ba malalaman if scam or legit ang bagong ann! on: November 05, 2020, 11:20:59 AM
123  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: I need help understanding what trans people feel.... on: November 05, 2020, 10:47:53 AM

But can anyone explain to me why people would want to assign themselves a different gender and what they'd aim to achieve from that?  I'm a cismale but if someone called me a "she" I don't think I'd particularly sweat it (especially if it wasn't in a condescending way).

They choose to assign themselves to the gender they associate with for them to properly express themselves and be their true selves (align to their gender identity and expression). I think that they choose to go through such a tedious process of transitioning because it helps them be comfortable with themselves and deal with their gender dysphoria. Trans individuals get offended when they get misgendered because it means that you don't acknowledge them. It can boost their ego A LOT. I get that its hard to understand having lived your whole life as cisgender but its that important to them.

Just for perspective, trans people dont choose to do transition or assign themselves a different gender just for the heck of it. Who in their right mind would voluntarily or actively choose to be ridiculed and experience discrimination their whole lives?  Grin
124  Economy / Economics / Re: Are online communities dead ? I can't find online communities to advertise ... on: October 20, 2020, 08:28:08 AM
On the contrary, I think the online community is thriving these days especially due to the pandemic. Small businesses have sprouted since then, you can see it everywhere especially on facebook and instagram. This is advantageous for the business owners since there's no need to pay for overhead (except for those who opt to fund for boosting). I think instagram and facebook would be great for you to advertise your services since they're pretty much inclined to showcasing these kind of ads but it really depends on your market/target audience. This forum is also a good place for you to advertise those kinds of services as well. Keep in mind though that the competition might be tough.
125  Economy / Economics / Re: I lost my job, how about you guys? on: October 06, 2020, 04:24:05 AM
Truly sorry OP. I feel sad for those who lost their jobs during this pandemic as it makes things harder than they already are. Given the current situation, I guess you can say that going digital currency should be the way to go now. The world is now trying to limit contact, like here in my country contactless payments are being implemented so you would think its time for crypto to shine but personally, we are all still heavily reliant on fiat.

Truthfully, I haven’t been giving much attention to crypto after the hype last 2018, I even went inactive in this forum - only popping in from time to time. Life has gotten me busy but being stuck at home has allowed me dive back in here.

I don’t see it as a battle between centralized vs. decentralized assets. To be honest when lockdown was announced, I opted to keep some cash on hand in case shit hits the fan. In the middle of a crisis, I still think that fiat is essential. What we are experiencing right now is the impact of this pandemic on our economy and the effect of how we are all poorly unprepared for a crisis like this.

No matter how enticing the promos of a betting hub may be, if the process of signing up and cashing out funds is highly time-consuming, you may just decide to turn to another casino.

This is true and I even feel the same way for non-gambling sites. There are times when I check out informative sites but lose interest when a sign up is required such as with shopping or media sites. I guess I'm just impatient and as someone who gets things with a simple click, I find the effort to go through a sign up time consuming or not even worth it. But IMO when it comes to sites which needs additional security thus a KYC is needed, I'd make the effort to go through the hassle of that.

128  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Can We Expect A Legally Compliant Bitcoin Bank Soon? on: May 24, 2019, 06:01:00 AM

I am wondering if it is possible that there would be a physical bank operating somewhere that is fully compliant with the banking laws but focusing on cryptocurrency business? I mean a bank that can be providing the usual banking services but all things are tied to bitcoin or cryptocurrency.

The bank should offer bitcoin debit and credit cards and of course will operate bitcoin ATM machines. In the bank you can file a loan with your bitcoin or crypto as the collateral. Maybe even have the facility where you can deposit your bitcoin under the bank's safety platform.

Is this just a dream or is there a possibility that this can happen eventually maybe 10 or 20 years from now? Or maybe in the first place there is no need nor demand for this?

While the community wants to move away from centralized cartels, you are just trying to put the balls in one basket! Why do we need banks for cryptocurrencies while we can have access to our funds all the time? Are you looking for banks to provide custodian services to your bitcoins?? Or give you a mare interest on your holding??

We will certainly see fully digital banks in future which will solely operate in virtual currencies issued by central banks but it is better if we don't see bitcoin banks becoming a reality!!

Many still prefer the "comfort" of banks, that's why they continue to want to integrate it with crypto. Unless there come's a day wherein a special bank is formed, one that would offer different services and cater to the needs of crypto users. However, I don't see much need for it. It would provide "security" for those who are doubtful of the use of bitcoin, but then its decentralization would just be then useless unless there's a way for it to be a third party bank. Anyway, there are already many better ways for us to store crypto, plus keeping it for interest seems pointless. There are many bitcoin debit cards and ATM machines already appearing from third party providers so I think that those would suffice already.
129  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Manny Pacquiao vs Keith Thurman on July 20 on: May 24, 2019, 02:29:40 AM
Yeah maybe Pacquiao is in condition and still in good shape but he’s not that fast and strong like when he was in his 20-30’s ,now that he is in 40’s things have change a lot now and this is must be accept by all of us Manny’s fans worldwide

What do you expect obviously from 20-30 to 40s? lol.

Manny's fans around the world already knows that. Others even take that as his disadvantage since Jeff Horn match but look what happened especially with the follow-up matches?

Now with Truman, expect the same statement will rise again.

Even with Pacquiao's age, we can still say that he's fast. However, it can be noticed that he may not have the same power as before since we don't see knock outs in his recent fights. Some of his wins

Pacman is the underdog in this fight which makes things different as compared to Thurman's undefeated record but Thurman may have a disadvantage because he had an elbow surgery last 2017. He took a break from boxing to recover and he says that it won't affect him but has only recently returned to the boxing ring after nearly two years of rest. The odds between the two will make their fight exciting to see.

131  Economy / Economics / Re: Problems In Chinas Economy & Escalating Trade War Will Cause Large Bitcoin Rally on: May 23, 2019, 02:10:03 AM
I don't think there will be trade wars, what's been happening around is the fear on China getting completely cashless in few years time. Now with the payments app alipay, tencent each and every form of payments were made without any intervention of banking bodies. When it comes to USA the same is being done through visa, and other payment processors along with banking system. In China most of the people even don't have a bank account. This cause a major loss in revenue to big giants and that pressure is getting reflected in such a way.

Actually, trade wars have already been ensuing between the two. Tensions are high right now between the two. The huawei ban on google services may only be the start of it. Even while China has been trying to separate themselves through tencent and alipay, they will still be affected. The huawei ban will affect users globally. But even with these events, we can't say for sure what the Chinese elites will do. It might even be better to keep their bitcoin during these kind of times.

The US has raised their tariffs on $200bn of Chinese products, and is starting to make an additional of $300bn of Chinese goods. If this trade war continues, the global economy will be affected.

133  Bitcoin / Press / [2019-05-21] You may need to provide a blood sample to withdraw btc from HitBTC on: May 21, 2019, 07:31:17 AM
The headline is exaggerated but it seems like its now extremely difficult for you to withdraw your Bitcoin from BTC since you'd have to provide the source of the fund's report with a description of all your actions such your purchases, exchanges, transfers etc. all with screenshots and in order. Does it seem like to be an exit scam now?

As quote from the article:

Quote
Looks like HitBTC have decided to go full scammer, and are stealing balances of users (including me). Probably a good idea to get anything you have there off, and take care not to use. They are locking accounts and making unreasonable demands for private information, which many people *can’t* provide even if they wanted to. And when you don’t / can’t comply, they just keep your Bitcoins instead of closing your account and sending them to you.

134  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Thoughts on Video game gambling addiction? on: May 21, 2019, 07:04:43 AM
Video games are loaded with aspects of gambling and people of all groups and ages play these games in modern times.  Many games have things like loot boxes that you pay for to random prizes, Runescape has the duel arena where you can gamble gold against one another, and there are many more examples.

People may start off with video games and then eventually move on to higher sums gambling in real casinos.  What are your thoughts on this matter and should anything be done?

Well, just like other type of games we usually play, it is already being associated with gambling even with the normal games so we can expect that when in comes to video games online or even offline, there is such possibility that gambling can be involved. It is just easy to be solved. Always have your self-control and be mindful that it is just a play that we do not need to be pressured and get to be so serious because a game must be played and not be a cause of problem and we must let ourselves to play the game and do not let the game deceive on playing with us because most likely if that thing happen, you will be leading into the path of addiction. That is why upon playing into an online casino I am currently into, I tend to keep reminding myself that my aim is just to have fun s that I will not exert much money on it to play the variety of games they have and not to chase my lost if ever I did win on the game I played plus I enjoy the great bonus they offer once you have done your first deposit.

Indeed. Almost all games nowadays can be more like associated in gambling due to the risk that are connected on playing into those which is really challenging and addictive but the key for resolving the problem in the case of being addicted on playing is on us players that we must have our self-control whenever we play so that we can still enjoy playing in proper moderation. Playing games are indeed supposedly fun and with no pressure because we must enjoy playing it to have fun because that is what really matters the most in the games we plsy right? I guess we are both into the same crypto casino which is Vegas casino wherein I do agree is fun to play with the variety of games they have like poker, slots, black jack and many more plus their great deals of bonuses for doing my deposits in terms of Bitcoin which I do enjoy based on my own experience making playing gambling convenient and fun to avoid getting into the path of addiction.

In almost any kind of game, you can make bets or turn it into gambling once you play it with friends or other people. Computer games such as DOTA or CSGO can be made more fun if place some bets. Although for other gamers, they don't find themselves getting addicted to gambling, it becomes much worse for those who take it too seriously. Some bets get too high and it becomes too big of a risk instead of being more fun. Heck, even arcade games are addicting sometimes. At first, the arcade seems harmless because of its small cost but before you know it you've already spent ridiculous amounts! (with such mediocre prizes) Moderation is key in anything.
135  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Crypto for the homeless day 9 - halal truck food - the homeless probably ate bet on: May 21, 2019, 05:52:34 AM
Looks great, mate. Sometimes a meal could go a long way for the homeless people. There has been some discussion in the past whether bitcoin or crypto could be utilized for charity or to help out the poor and here we are looking at an actual person who was able to donate thru cryptos - who would have thought that even a few satoshis could make a difference for others?

There are plenty of homeless people in my country as well who are only able to get by thru soup kitchens or simple donations. There are still plenty of hungry people in this world. Great job, I hope that you continue doing this!
136  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Google and Huawei - the start of new era? on: May 21, 2019, 01:18:15 AM
I think this has happened because of the tension between the on-going trade war of US-China and the recommendation of US Government about Huawei Security issues. Huawei could probably use a 3rd party app store like Tencent, but not all apps may be available such as Facebook (since its blocked in China). You can just side load apps using APKs and accept to have an open source android however there are other apps relying on the google DRM Widevine system which checks if the app is digitally signed and if the device is safe/unrooted. So, apps like Netflix is using the DRM system to protect their app, you may not be able to side load Netflix on your phone without google services.
137  Economy / Economics / Re: Jobs Created by the Blockchain & Bitcoin on: May 20, 2019, 09:36:32 AM
Just recently as I was going over some of the job opportunities around my area, I was surprised to find an opening titled Blockchain Developer from a well known firm in my country. I don't normally see that much jobs related to blockchain (I think that its one of the first that I've ever seen in my country) - and from a famous firm at that! This would be a great opportunity for blockchain and crypto enthusiasts because it is not required for you to be an expert.

It's great to see that the technology of blockchain is gaining more popularity and more companies are now interesting in utilizing it. Its now giving opportunity for others and we may now see more of it in the future.
138  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Game of Thrones - Who will rule? Odds and betting discussion [Odds updated!] on: May 20, 2019, 08:07:34 AM
The leaks orions.belt19 has posted are real. This was not a very satisfying way to end the show, I reckon. The writers appeared to be in a hurry to end it and collect their paychecks hehehe.

It was a sad ending for Jon, Bran became king and Bron got his castle. All the other character's endings were uninteresting.

Too bad we did not make a bet on the leaks whether it will happen or not, it would have made things more fun  Grin

IMO, I honestly didn’t think that the leaks would actually come true because:
1. Why would Bran agree to become king? Didn’t he decline to be lord of Winterfell because he was ‘no longer’ Bran, since he’s now the 3ER (three eyed raven)?
2. Why is there still a night’s watch? I was surprised to see the wall. Although, they say that its considered as a prison now thus its continued existence.

I also have some thoughts on the turn out of the last episode:
-Why are there so many dothraki and unsullied all of a sudden?
-Why is everyone okay with Sansa as queen/North’s independence
-Why did Jon go on beyond the wall? The unsullied wouldn’t know anyway since they’ll be going to Naath. Why wasn’t it exposed that he was a Targaryen?

For me, the ending was just okay. It didn’t turn out the way I wanted and I have a lot of questions but there was somewhat closure to it.
139  Economy / Economics / Re: Price of goods goes up, salary never goes up!!! on: May 17, 2019, 08:03:33 AM
Normally, salaries should adjust when there's inflation but this is not the case for all countries. In developing countries, people really struggle due to the increasing price of goods while their salary remains stagnant. Sometimes, the minimum salary is no longer enough to sustain the daily needs of an individual anymore. Capitalism also greatly contributes to this problem. Due to this reason, many would rather choose to migrate and seek for a better life in other countries. Plus, the tax is ridiculous here which does not equate to the value you are getting. Taxpayers are very frustrated because the government don't do much and it makes you feel like you're throwing away your money.
140  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Game of Thrones - Who will rule? Odds and betting discussion [Odds updated!] on: May 17, 2019, 01:19:42 AM
this is getting really boring , I was hoping that the leaks  I saw on reddit aren't true but all of them happened here is the list of the leaks

- Varys killed by Daenerys
- the army capturing Jaime before he reach Kings Landing
- Tyrion freeing Jaime
- Jaime and Cersei dying together

these are the leaks I remember and all came true , I don't remember any leak that didn't happen
leaks for the final episode are still up on reddit freefolks , you can check them if you want

my local bookie had the betting up yesterday for who will sit on the throne but I didn't believe the leaks , if somehow they decided to bring it back I'm gonna make a max bet

Saw these leaks as well before episode 5 came out and they all came true. Not sure if the leaks/predictions for episode 6 will actually happen (as seen in picture:)

Who wants to take a bet on it? It seems very unlikely to happen.

Season 8 really went far from my expectations but sometimes you just cant get what you want all the time. What's really disappointing for me was the fight against the Night King. I thought it would take up at least two episodes, plus their battle tactics were to frustrating even just for an amateur to watch. The whole season just feels rushed, and it was obvious that there were budget cuts (with the short scenes of ghost).
