121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: July 11, 2020, 09:31:56 PM
Good stuff cAPSLOCK, some food for thought.

Adaptive blocksize has not really been tested with massive volumes for long periods, so I guess it has seemed chain bloat is not issue not worth worrying about.  That doesn't mean, however no one has been thinking about it at the dev level.  Yes, it's a more complicated tech, so block size being larger sort of makes sense.

TBH personally I don't know much about how many nodes there are, but the blockchain is 60-odd Gigs, it doesn't seem 'that' large after 6 years.  But then if you look at orders of magnitude increases in transactions, I don't know - has anyone modeled growth v blocksize at different tx volume levels?

At what level is it a possible problem - and are nodes already pitifully small in number?

Ref: current activity /price, it does look different. On Polo XMR is trading five times what BSV or BCH are, so it's refreshing. OK, I know that isn't the case everywhere of course - but it's a good sign.  I did actually go there to play with some alts and I sold a few XMR, expecting to buy back in the (recently) 'inevitable' fall back when BTC makes a move - but honeypony seems to be doing it's own thing.

I sort of hope I don't get a chance to get these back - but let's see if Monero has decided it's time to properly breakout.  It has to happen sooner or later.
122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: July 01, 2020, 08:53:52 AM

Oh damn...  I can't figure out if I'm supposed to be happy or scared cos on one hand it proves that Monero works.  On the other hand I expect more exchanges dropping it cos 'durrr Monero bad.'.

I think the risk from this (directly) is small.  Any real shift will only happen if governments use it as an example of 'durr crypto bad'.

I think this is unlikely.  Not impossible, but unlikely - no one in the whole cryptosphere wants to see governments banning (honest) coins, it would set a dangerous precedent.  And of course there is already a lot of big connected money already invested in - and supportive of - crypto in general.

This is a fringe case, Bitcoin was solicited by Hezbollah, dollars are still used for all kinds of nasty shit.  An attack on Monero is an attack on privacy, which is of course possible - but hard to justify without many interests beyond Monero's holders protesting loudly.
123  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 19, 2020, 09:56:49 AM
people who end up intubated stand a real chance of dying.

Hmm. I'm not really trying to argue that you are wrong. I'm currently hunkered down. While I resent what I feel is government overreach in the liberty/safety balance, I'm happy enough to be careful on my own recognizance. But the following had me scratching my head: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIDsKdeFOmQ

I realize that this is an uncorroborated report, and it is anecdotal if true, at that. But it seems sincere, and has me questioning the entire medical response to this thing. At least in my mind.

edit: I see Tash beat me to it. Whatevs.

Just looked over a few minutes - and it seems the initial premise is that people marked negative for test were still 'presumed' Covid positive.

OK, but...  it is entirely plausible that:

1. People were not tested, but obviously suffering classic symptoms.

2. Test results were taking hours (at best) to even come back - if someone is an emergency admission and short of breath at dangerous levels - as a doctor, you need to act and make a decision. I assume we are not arguing that thousands of people were dying.

3. Tests were simply not showing positive, since they were unreliable.   A positive test is rarely wrong, but false negatives do exist - tests were then (and are still) not infallible.

Her assertion that they were not ill and were only short of breath 'due to stress' is a bit of a stretch IMHO.  Testing being fallible - or (because of time taken to even get results) being skipped in cases where someone is obviously lacking blood oxygen, seems a more likely explanation than deliberately using up ventilators for people with no real need.
Pulse oximeters are ubiquitous in hospitals and damn quick to reliably show dangerously low oxygen levels.  People panicking get high results, people short of breath due to pneumonia get low ones.

OK, that ventilators and, in particular intubation, are not the best clinical options may or may not prove to be the case.  At this time there was no better option, since people with not enough oxygen tend to die pretty quickly.

Even assuming Twitter is a reliable source of factual news, and that government ministers in jeans and T-shirts only have phone footage as evidence for an official visit (to what looks not very much like a hospital)....

What would a corrupt private hospital claim in a country with a non-low level of corruption tell us about the level of real disease there?

Two days old and Brazilens translated it
Bazil not the only country with massive corruption

I didn't say it was the only country with corruption.

I did wonder if you might attempt to answer the question I asked, though.

On the other side of the trench there are anti-bitcoiners like Coinbase.

They are leveraging their Neutrino acquisition, trading their business model with our privacy.

#DeleteCoinbase the most anti-Bitcoin organisation

If you trade on Coinbase, you are their product.

Assuming some group is able to afford depositing bricks all over the country at convenient places for rioters, shouldn't we also assume that another group might exist that is able to hire a few twitter accounts to post pictures of pallets of bricks?
Don't get me wrong, I have no idea if one or the other is right, but wouldn't the latter be cheaper and easier to do?

Also I have some suspicions about this one:
https://twitter.com/Conserv17716651/status/1267458034273484808

Obviously it might have been terribly interesting to see what is written on the packing slip (things like a recipient, shipping company or manufacturer or maybe a date proving it is from now etc.), I wonder why that good american citizen taking this photo didn't think of that. At least I am hopeful this was all reported to the police first, before taking it to twitter.

You're right to have your suspicions - read down thread?
https://twitter.com/FriscoPD/status/1267499426689548290

Police have posted in thread to say 'nothing to see here' but the thread still rolls on with outrage at the conspiracy.  Even Warren Buffett is implicated apparently...

Everyone just believes what is on Twitter.  Don't trust, verify.

'Possible drugs'

Fact: That applies to every adult on the planet.

As does 'possible mental impairment'. Also a fact.
133  Other / Meta / Re: Last of the V8s Merit Source Application on: May 26, 2020, 10:54:24 PM
Without V8 a lot of us be the worse for it - an endless hunter for news and developments, I often wonder how he does it.

He seems to be across everywhere and everything and is a positive force always.  He also sees merits as something to use and reward with, so he is definitely someone who ought to be a source.

As has been said above, it seems weird he isn't one already.
134  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 26, 2020, 01:35:00 PM

You are one of the dysgenic people. None of that shit matters, even if it was true. The only thing that matters is, is the state going to kill a large part of the population? That's what communists do. And they can only do it to a disarmed population.

Try harder, Ibian. Get me upset!
You really think everything is just black or white? right or wrong? good or bad?
How old are you, seriously?!

If by dysgenic he means you are stupid (and therefore he is 'obviously right') then:

1. He is stupid.

2. He is probably banging on about eugenics again (you know - kill off the poor, the stupid, anyone who disagrees with him...  etc.).  Essentially, he is a totalitarian.  Just the sort it is wise to hope never gain positions of responsibility over others.

3. He is also proving his own lack of intelligent thought in asserting that communism is the only political system to fear.  Both political 'poles' are wont to oppress and murder their own.  Today, corrupt authoritarianism is patently more likely today to come from capitalist governments heading to the right, who seek to overthrow any semblance of democracy as it is inconvenient when they seek more power over their people. Examples of a lurch to the right are evident in far more places than a lurch to communism.  That he thinks Brazil is a more promising place to live in than his current locale - which is in the 'communist' states of Scandinavia; states with populations often reported as living the happiest lives and having best living standards on the planet in numerous surveys - is... interesting.  As for 'only communists', he seems to forget right wing European states have been known to have a pretty good go at both eugenics and mass murder.

4. He probably suffers from extreme narcissism, he strikes me as someone who even if everyone on the planet disagreed with him and had objective proof he was wrong, he would hold to his creed and never change it, believing them to be the stupid ones. Evidence is useless to him if it conflicts with his own beliefs, and evidence is not necessary to have in order to reinforce them.

I have him on ignore. I don't hate him... it's just those who lack self-doubt also tend to lack the sentience to be worth arguing with, so I won't.

'None of that shit matters, even if it was true' seems to sum it up: QED.

So thoughtful of you Jay, you can fuck right off now.

When I want advise from a lifeless retarded chat bot - with a purpose - I'll make sure to let you know.
Until then, try not to kill us with your nonsense walls of text.

Everyones shitting on the idea that we will bart down.. that just gives me more confidence that im right

Why? Because many experienced Bitcoiners think you're full of it?

Experienced bitcoiner =/= experienced trader

Note that your (in)equation obeys the reflexive principle.

The trail of the dead in Bitcoindom is populated with many conventional traders that think their previous success in other markets uniquely qualifies them to apply the same principles to Bitcoin.

Why does everyone keep assuming Im a trader who traded traditionals in the past? Ive been trading crypto for a while now and a Bart is a purely crypto formation, ive been trading those for a while now too, sure, I admit this time my trade did'nt work out that well, but no trader is 100% accurate, as long I am correct atleast some times I will continue to make money.

'Everyone' is now just assuming you're not worth taking much notice of.   You've popped up all full of yourself, proved you're an idiot in a very short time span and probably joined a fair few people's ignore list.

Now if you want to be read at all, stop digging, learn a little humility and you may over time earn some stripes.

Speculation is ok, but maybe don't make bold assertions about Bitcoin's price movement? It tends to bite those who do in the ass.
