121  Other / Meta / Re: theymos is a government agent | do not use this forum it is honeypot on: May 25, 2015, 05:29:33 PM
So, what if he is?

Can't government agents use Bitcoin too? Are you doing something illegal? Government Agents are people too... (see what I did there?)

So government agents are criminals too... Like the one on DPR's case that stole the bitcoin.

Point being, don't trust the title, trust the person.
122  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Thinking ideas for a startup? on: May 25, 2015, 05:19:02 PM
Sure I'm full of ideas...

How about the Bitcoin Shark Tank?

What you do is get 5 Bitcoin investors together to listen to people pitch their ideas. Then those that come begging for Bitcoin will have to explain their idea, show how much they earned so far, and what their projections are for the next year. Then the Bitcoin Sharks will either make an offer or kick them out. Funny thing tho... All those that came begging for money on the 'real' Shark Tank with just an 'idea' got kicked out pretty quickly.

P.S. I want 5% royalties in perpetuity for this 'idea'...
123  Economy / Economics / Re: Question for those who bought/mined BTC when it was mere pennies & held strong on: May 25, 2015, 04:49:01 PM
I only joined the crypto community in 2013 but if I remember correctly, price went back down immediately after it spiked to ~$1100. Maybe some people didn't expect it to go down so fast and held on to their coins in the hope it'd reach $2000 and beyond  Cheesy Personally, if I'd bought 1000 BTC for $50 back in 2010, there is a good chance I would've sold most of my coins as soon as the price reached the plateau phase at ~$130, just before the climb. $130,000 for a $50 investment is good enough for me  Grin

So many investors think in the 'all or nothing' mode when calculating ROI. There is a system for taking profits while staying invested. Think of it as reverse dollar cost averaging. Will you maximize the total amount of ROI if you hit the peaks and valleys? NO... but you will average your Peaks and Valleys and in the case of BTC, that should have been pretty good. (So far)  As to picking your End Date for your investment. I'd suggest you'd look at a point where bloat will be detrimental to the efficiency of the system. IMHO...
124  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there an actual Bitcoin bank yet? on: May 25, 2015, 04:26:01 PM
Yes,

Every wallet.dat file is a bitcoin bank. The interest earned is directly proportional to the amount of people using BTC so it can grow and shrink in value. How secure the bank is, is completely up to you.

Give the history so far, IF, someone held your bitcoins for you and paid a small percentage in interest. Say, 0.5% (like a bank, LOL), they would've done very well for themselves.

125  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: "In 5 or 10 years I think every online retailer will accept Bitcoin." -Gavin on: May 25, 2015, 04:21:39 PM
Let the math geeks go...

In 5 years what will the size of the block chain be? In 10 years?

Projections anyone?
126  Other / Meta / Server Compromised? on: May 25, 2015, 04:03:32 PM
Just received this:

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA256

You are receiving this message because your email address is associated
with an account on bitcointalk.org. I regret to have to inform you that
some information about your account was obtained by an attacker who
successfully compromised the bitcointalk.org server. The following
information about your account was likely leaked:
- Email address
- Password hash
- Last-used IP address and registration IP address
- Secret question and a basic (not brute-force-resistant) hash of your
secret answer
- Various settings

You should immediately change your forum password and delete or change
your secret question. To do this, log into the forum, click "profile",
and then go to "account related settings".

If you used the same password on bitcointalk.org as on other sites, then
you should also immediately change your password on those other sites.
Also, if you had a secret question set, then you should assume that the
attacker now knows the answer to your secret question.

Your password was salted and hashed using sha256crypt with 7500 rounds.
This will slow down anyone trying to recover your password, but it will
not completely prevent it unless your password was extremely strong.

While nothing can ever be ruled out in these sorts of situations, I do
not believe that the attacker was able to collect any forum personal
messages.

I apologize for the inconvenience and for any trouble that this may cause.

If true, a prompt to change password on log on should be instituted. P.S. Haven't checked signature.

You're still hot. Funny how that works on the internets.
...

Funny thing about Bitcoiners and Fox News watchers is that they both seem to have a thing for trannies.  The latter were all hot and bothered for Ann 'the man' Coulter back in the day.  Go figure.

LOL, What's FaceBooks gender count now? 50+

I see no gender on the inter webs. So she's hot.

Edit: Except that randy guy, dude change your avatar.

Never joined the foundation. Said I would when they offer a Substantial Scholarship to an accredited school tho...

I wouldn't go so far as calling it a 'scam.'

Paying to join the local golf club usually just ends up with you paying for tee times at a reduced rate.
129  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Untaint for a fee using out-of-band transactions and large mining fees on: March 04, 2014, 05:21:54 PM
The idea of taint with time will quickly go away. Imagine trying to seize every dollar out there with traces of 'taint' on them.

The services that 'seize' tainted coins will quickly find themselves in lawyers fees up to their noses.

BTW: You could just avoid the whole issue and sell the wallet.dat in 'Cas Coins', Bitcoin Bearer Bonds, etc... I mean if you know a miner that would go into this system of washing why transmit the coins to him at all on the network, just send him the wallet.dat?

133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [Insider Information]Mark Karpeles is involved in an upcoming Bitcoin investment on: February 21, 2014, 02:23:25 PM
I have talked to a guy who is working in the environment of Mark Karpeles. He claimed that Mark has some kind of a agreement or even secretly involved in an "investment company" who is going to offer Bitcoin investment vehicles like ETF´s.
The question is whether Mark even starts or give in order the malleability ddos attacks to have an excuse for a longer period of downtimes on MTGox.
I think now it makes all sense. We have small Bitcoin prices due the manipulation on every exchanger which makes it actually really attractive to build a bitcoin portfolio.

I am in touch with this guy and will inform you about updates.

For more related information I am willing to pay Bitcoins.

Just like GLD ETF. All one needs to do is hold BTC in Cold Storage, available for verification (public address), and then file for FinCEN and SEC approval and list on an 'exchange'. (So easy a Caveman can do it. LOL)

The KEY is the overlay network. You don't need to expose the BTC (gold) for actual trading in day to day operations. Basically, you are only dealing with FIAT. It would benefit you to be able to acquire more BTC to expand the ETF. (HE might have some problems here, considering...)

134  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Interest in a P2P Exchange on: February 21, 2014, 02:08:13 PM
I like the idea of a P2P exchange.

Scientific Statistical Polling algorithms would need to be written into the client. People trading would report what the exchange rate was for each trade. I think it would be better to only count Smart Phone Trades to start to keep 'outliers' to a minimum but with proper execution we should be able to get to a proper average price.

I'd align the idea of Singular Exchanges for every transaction aggregated through algorithms to determine a moving average.

Plus, using Smart Phone services when it come time to trade, you could turn ON the option for Trading and quickly locate local traders with their Trading option in the ON position.

The down side is 'Large' trades but that's for others to worry about. I'd rather see the average guy quickly get into and out of BTC and let the 'big' guys solve the big trade problem.

136  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin Foundation Membership Pricing Question on: February 20, 2014, 08:05:06 PM
I was never a fan of a Foundation as it would tend to emulate others on consolidating power but understand the 'want' of others to have it.

It seems to me that the formula for fixing the BTC to a USD value is a little Full Tilt right now.

Perhaps, someone can address the issue.

You will be getting members overpaying for their memberships with this Mt.Gox issue.
137  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [DISCUSS]Luke-Jr is standing for election to the board of the Bitcoin Foundation on: August 19, 2013, 03:47:14 PM
Luke, seriously you wish to become a politician?

I'd understand you buying your way to the top but political ambitions rarely end up as intended.
138  Other / Politics & Society / Re: [DISCUSS]Luke-Jr is standing for election to the board of the Bitcoin Foundation on: August 18, 2013, 09:58:05 PM
Platform Questions:

Are you for or against BTC Social Security?

Do you support BTC Stamps for those without the means to feed themselves?

Are you for a strong defense?

Immigration stance on repatriation of coins?

And, of course, BIP16 or Bust?
139  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Securing your bitcoin mining equipment from theft - ideas? on: August 18, 2013, 09:52:34 PM
I think insurance and motion sensor cameras with alerts is about all you can do.
Good call. I didn't know you could buy these which send sms alerts and also take photos if the sensor is tripped.

If you had a Minirig or Avalon you could probably slip a gps unit or a prepaid phone with gps inside.
Yep, this is the solution I keep coming back to. But a factor I hadn't realised until today is the potential problems with heat. I don't know how hot it gets inside an avalon or minirig, but if it gets too hot, li-ion batteries can start to deteriorate and even explode Shocked

Maybe a lo-tech solution would be best after all?  Grin
