121  Economy / Collectibles / Re: Calling you forth, Coinographic on: January 28, 2015, 09:28:09 AM
Hey man, I bought 10 Coinographic coins last year and have them with me now. Last I heard, they are not even funded yet. And now I hear the company going underwater. Just great.
122  Other / Off-topic / Re: Investing in Property in Florida.. need help/advice on: January 27, 2015, 11:57:22 PM
You have $150k but willing to spend $2 of advice? Maybe paid consultation or financial adviser would be more suited. Majority of the threads in this off topic section is for the lulz
123  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Buying BTC with PayPaal. Trusted. Escrow. ABOVE market value on: January 27, 2015, 05:36:04 PM
Are you trolling, trying to scam, or both?
124  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 100% Way to STAY SAFE if you SELL on LocalBitcoins and Nice 30% Mark-up on: January 27, 2015, 07:32:17 AM
Thanks for taking the time to write all that out, but just as I thought, not 100% guaranteed. I already quickly found 3 loopholes that could potentially lose you the dispute. I'll point them out so you can further tweak your method:

1) Scammer can file a claim that he never received the item, but just an empty package. Oldest trick in the book of ebay scams.

2) It's rare, but there's a small chance the package gets lost. You're responsible for lost packages. Sure you can send out a replacement, but they could potentially win on the basis that it took too long to arrive.

3) Scammer can dispute that the item was not as described. If you send an error penny, they can claim it's a normal penny. There are many people that collect numismatic coins, it's very easy to prove that the coin is not a valuable error coin.

Or just save $300 USD and move to Liberia. You'll be good for the rest of your life, as well as your whole family's life, and 5 generations down.
126  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to retire on $100,000 on: January 26, 2015, 09:51:58 AM
Invest early on and let compound interest do the rest. It does not take much early on to get a sizable amount by the time you reach retirement. Of course, the later you start to save, the harder it will be for your money to grow.

The problem with the majority nowadays is the lack of discipline to save.
127  Economy / Speculation / Re: Bitcoin to the moon? on: January 26, 2015, 09:02:32 AM
Every time prices goes up a tad, there's always moon talk.

Then price just plummets again.
128  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buying BTC with Paypal on: January 26, 2015, 08:41:49 AM
Paypal rates widely varies from trader to trader. Somewhere between 0% to 20%. Don't expect to easily get transactions if you don't have strong trade history when it comes to paypal.

If you want the other person to receive paypal funds, a method that wouldn't require as much trust would be to go buy a paypal MyCash with cash, then give the PIN to the seller. The PIN is used to load funds on the seller's paypal account. Less likely to be reversed this way.
129  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Risks of buying Amazon.com gift cards / gift codes on: January 26, 2015, 06:49:35 AM
What are the actual risks regarding buying these codes? Sure, I know the seller can keep the code after you sent you BTC, or he can send you a invalid code. However, I do also read replies over here that people are that these codes can be bought with hacked accounts and thus stolen money. Is that true?

Will it harm me if I use such "illegal codes"?

Amazon gift cards are one of the more notorious scams on here, especially from new accounts. Main issue is that they're purchased with stolen credit cards, and once the owner files a dispute, the gift card will get voided, even if you already redeemed it to your Amazon account. If you redeem it and quickly purchase something before it can be reversed, then you may be at risk of having police knocking on your door.

I was scammed for ~$800 in amazon gift cards in 2011 when they got reversed. There was a seller dumping mass amounts of these for a discount. I believe this was the first Amazon GC scam on this forum, so no one knew of it yet.

Just be careful with who you deal with. Just think about it, why would anyone take a hit by selling it at a large discount if it's a legit GC?
130  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 100% Way to STAY SAFE if you SELL on LocalBitcoins and Nice 30% Mark-up on: January 26, 2015, 06:28:06 AM
Nope. That's why I am saying my method is full proof.  You are charging more and the scammers may come at you but you never have to worry. Who cares if you get the scammers, I've made it so they cannot win

Foolproof*  Wink

It may work well, but I highly double it's a guaranteed 100% that you'll win. It's paypal we're talking about here.
131  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: 100% Way to STAY SAFE if you SELL on LocalBitcoins and Nice 30% Mark-up on: January 26, 2015, 04:51:31 AM
Sorry no such thing is 100% safe. That place is teaming with scammers. If you deal enough on there, you'd know.

And the fact that you did transactions that opened yourself to a 40% chance of getting charged back ain't that safe to begin with. Rather than getting chargebacks and fighting it, you can change your method to minimize reversals.
132  Economy / Reputation / Re: Videos of WoodCollector Hand Carving: Care of MOB on: January 25, 2015, 08:20:09 PM
WOW how anticlimactic. Over an hour to do the "N", which was already pre-done. I do SMD soldering in much finer details than what's shown in that video. Really, the video had the opposite effect than what it was suppose to prove. It's the final nail in your coffin...

All these woodcollector threads serve no more purpose.
133  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BurtW arrested on: January 24, 2015, 04:05:54 AM
WOW. No wonder he was absent from here for months. It must have been a sting operation.

And he was raving about how safe it was dealing with face to face cash transactions, and how he does it all the time :/
134  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Btc to vanilla $500 on: January 24, 2015, 12:44:47 AM
A brand new account with AnonBTC in it, trying to redirect the sales offsite. Yeah sounds really legit.
135  Other / Archival / Re: Looking buy BTC via paypal (Verified) on: January 24, 2015, 12:34:07 AM

not good at handling large amount of IO for server.

That's what I was thinking too. Same reason why you should defrag a SSD on a normal desktop.
138  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: What makes someone a scammer? on: January 23, 2015, 08:09:06 AM
What makes someone a scammer?

Not sure. Why don't you ask BFL?
139  Other / Meta / Re: Recent downtime and data loss on: January 23, 2015, 07:55:42 AM
I think I lost a few PM's, but nothing crucial.
140  Other / Meta / Re: Recent downtime and data loss on: January 23, 2015, 07:53:15 AM
What SSD's are you running these on? Some SSD's are pure garbage in reliability, and OCZ is notorious for this. You can't really go wrong with Intel ones, although there was one series of Intel that had some random bricking.

Also you mentioned that these are fairly old SSDs. Just noting that SSD have a lifetime and do "expire", not by age but how much is written on there. I don't know much about server configuration, but if there are some intensive writing on the SSDs, especially MLC chips, they wear out much sooner.
