Something really strange happened, without any transactions to show for it, my coin stack went from 1.6 million to 1.3 million!? Anyone any idea as to why? No transactions, no unmined coins that could have caused this Huh

Affected addresses?

No idea ow to extract that data....
have you tried 'repairwallet' from the console?

@Furio
Are you sure that you have not made a mistake? I sometimes think that with other coins, but put it down to confusion in having holdings in several with similar amounts. I now make a written note of all my balances to keep track of things. I've never had a problem with Zeitcoin though.

Could looking at your addresses with a block explorer help?

Besides the other advice, I wonder whether creating a new wallet and replacing the wallet.dat file with the one you presumably have saved do the trick? I've never had to do this, but the saved wallet.dat file, as far as I understand, should contain info on the addresses and transactions and maybe the amount saved at the time you made the backup. I'm not sure of this. Possibly everything could get updated when you sync up to override saved information. Could anyone give some advice on this?

If this method is valid, it could confirm whether you have confused your Zeit balance with other balances you might have. If you haven't been backing your wallet up, then you have committed a cardinal sin. In that case, shame on you!

In parallel to this, I'd like to know:

1) if simply replacing the wallet.dat file in a newly created wallet with a saved wallet.dat file from an old wallet preserves the saved balance, addresses and transactions?

2) if you did this with a saved wallet.dat file long before a coin had forked and tried this long after the fork, would it work in preserving the old balance? I tried this with an old saved Tekcoin wallet.dat file I had recently rediscovered. I only had a small amount in the wallet, which never minted. Frustrated by this, I had got rid of the wallet from my computer to save space. Tekcoin at the time was riddled with bugs, but since then has improved a lot. When I tried to put my old Tekcoin saved wallet.dat from 2014 into a new November, 2015 wallet, long after a Tekcoin fork, I got a message saying that it recognised my keys as being valid, but that there might be errors with my transactions and addresses? I couldn't get any further since the new wallet kept crashing during rescanning.

Can anyone throw a light on these wallet.dat questions and further, how Furio could solve his problem?

I'm sure I havent made a misstake, because when I loaded an old back up of .dat file, ploink, 1.6+ million zeits again, reallly strange, thank god I use multiple back ups Smiley Anyone got a clue as to why 300000 Zeit dissapeared?
122  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How should I secure my bitcoins? on: November 21, 2015, 08:54:13 AM
For long term, make an offline (heavily encrypted) .dat file and send the coins to that address. Offcourse paperwallets, yet you never know if your computer or the website you take it from is hacked. So for all options, a clean and fresh installed computer is the way to go

^^^^ ROFLMAO.... there couldn't be a better reply than this one.

The ISIS was created by the same people, who were the masterminds behind the creation of the Taliban and Al Qaeda. From the start itself, Russia has been supporting the secular regimes in the Middle East (Syria, Libya, Iraq, Egypt.etc). It was the US and its allies (especially Qatar and Saudi Arabia) who has been supporting the Islamists.

Bet the author of OP is an american, blinded by pattriosm, talking about proganda, while the western society is the most propegaded in the world....

Tell that to all guys in prison getting caught by their VPN provider not wanting to risk a fine.... The only real solution is Tails, Qubes or Whonix, and those are still not full proof sadly...
The situation: I'm a average man. I don't do my proper research when picking out the VPN. I get in trouble because of downloading things via the VPN (it has stored information). Conclusion: VPNs have information and are unsafe. Do you see the flawed logic here? When picking the right VPN one should look for type of encryption (strength) and evaluate online the history/record of the VPN. A combination of the right encryption and not storing information should yield in it being secure.

What about the countless guys who have not?

All Im saying is that you CANT know if the vpn provider really doesnt store data, many claimed it before, yet got their customers caught, that's my point, you have to TRUST the provider, which allways has a weak link Smiley

134  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Earth-like world could be 'most important planet found outside solar system' on: November 13, 2015, 06:11:18 AM
None of this is important, although it might be very exciting to the dreamers.
i can somewhat agree with just this statement, but for entirely different reasons. the fact that a potentially inhabitable planet exists out there is great and all, but it shouldnt be what the space program should be focusing on; we should be focused more on how we might get there in the distant future. sometime in the distant future when interplanetary travel becomes commonplace (maybe even never), we can think about colonizing other planets and exploring different worlds. however, with our current technology, even a 1 way trip to the moon costs a sizable fortune, and relocating ordinary people would require them to undergo training for space travel. bringing luggage / anything along for the ride would cost a ridiculous amount as well. until a solution to all of these problems can be found, we should stick to advancing our current technology instead of dreaming.

Space travell is so far in the future, we have the ships, only there is no tech yet against space radiation, every austronaut will have to be extremely lucky not to encounter any of it, with the massive sun in our system, no chance, your brain and cells will be cooked in one burst...
135  Economy / Speculation / Re: StorjCoin vs Filecoin vs Swarm (Please explain your views :) on: November 13, 2015, 06:07:22 AM
"Blockchain based cloud storage protocal". Let's just put all the trigger words that Bitcoin haters love in one sentence and make it a thing.

But seriously alts don't have a place, yet... Until Bitcoin goes through its "S curve" adoption. Bitcoin is the test rat, and slaughter house for crypto. Once it's gone through its paces, then alts will be more relevant in the public eye.

Don't get me wrong I love the idea.

I couldnt disagree more Smiley Finally an alt that provides a REAL service, a layer build upon blockchain technology, in stead of some shitcoin doing the same in a different code.... This is what makes people see that crypto can do EVERYTHING digital Smiley
136  Other / Off-topic / Re: TOR Network Risk on: November 13, 2015, 06:01:53 AM
Why use TOR, when the right VPN is enough?

What right VPN is that? normally VPM are easier to trace.

Just scroll down and you will see this

Code:
Sponsored by Private Internet Access, a Bitcoin-accepting VPN.
that kind of VPN
And that's more secure that tor? What type of speed am I to expect?
With a good VPN you should expect very good speeds. Normally a VPN isn't easier to trace.
Imagine if I'm your VPN host: 2 possibilities: 1) I don't give information to government/others; 2) I don't store your information at all.
How exactly is it easier to trace?

and if you accept BTC as payment then I'm sure as hell you don't have any information! Cheesy

Tell that to all guys in prison getting caught by their VPN provider not wanting to risk a fine.... The only real solution is Tails, Qubes or Whonix, and those are still not full proof sadly...

139  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: No Bitcoin documentaries on Netflix! on: November 12, 2015, 06:16:25 AM
Why do we need it on NetFlix where only a selected few, will be able to access it? It is available for free or should be, on Youtube. The people who needs this the most, are the people who cannot afford Netflix. There has been a lot of discussions on this already, and you have posted this question for the second time. <with a slightly different angle> https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1247175.0

Make all Bitcoin documentaries FREE!

A few selected.... please look up the paid subscribers of netflix, a few selected..... Especially young people are overrepresented in those stats, the people we need to reach Smiley

Hear, hear, second that!
