Sorry for the question that I am sure has already been asked but I can't find an answer too.

I understand that currently our payouts happen in the following block to avoid fees. I understand that we had two blocks hit back to back over the weekend (498476 and 498508) and they hit to close together to have the latter confirm the former, so they will both be payed out in our next block. My issue is I am seeing the payouts in my wallet. Why/how could that be? What am I missing?

They matured. Happy dance.

Slush has been running @ 109% for the last 250 blocks.  It's a great pool and worth your serious consideration.

Thank you for pointing me to the right pool, just tested both BTC,com and Slush, definitely Slush bring more return follow by BTC, I already left Antpool out of the equation.

I'm glad you did the math for yourself!  It's important to understand how you get paid in any business.

Slush pool has been really great, I wish I had been using it from day one.

What do the numbers say for a direct comparison for kano VS ant?

What would be the reason that one would purchase this unit over the S9? Reliability is much better or so I have read, but power consumption is not. Would it be the fact that bitmain is not months behind and paying the scalper prices on ebay is absurd? Not trying to start anything here. Just attempting to confirm what I believe the reasons are based on my research. All in all given the retail pricing of both units wouldn't the S9 be the better machine 9 (not considering reliability).
Well with Bitmain where you have to pay 3 months in advance for an S9 ... that's 3 months of lost mining ... which is a VERY long time.

If instead you can get a miner much faster ... then that also needs to be factored in.

At the moment neither of them can supply miners quickly, but a few months back most people ignored the fact you could get an A7 when you couldn't get an S9.

We'll see what happens when the A8 is released ...

Then of course, as mentioned above, the RMA on an S9 is pretty much a joke ... so you gotta hope your S9 never fails ...

I ordered two S9 in the beginning of November and they arrived today. I was totally not prepared as everyone says two months out and even the details on the order page said it would be from the January lot. So now I am rush shipping power supplies to make use of miners that arrived over a month early.

wow, this is the first time I've heard of someone stressing out over an early delivery of their miners. Usually, people are freaking because they're late or never show up at all.

That's awesome you got 'em!

Is anyone else getting an invalid SSL cert on kano.is?

Check if your system date and time are correct and synced properly with internet. Most of the times SSL cert issues are due to this reason only.

I found the issue - our infrastructure guy put some interesting ACL's on our 'free' wifi AP.

I must say my buying experience @ minerwarez was good, so if/when I buy more miners it would be from them or another official distributor

The nonce server for the few miners with asicminer tubes, was dead to the world for about 22 minutes from UTC 22:14 to 22:36
Was some 'upstream network routing' problem, all resolved now.
Mine on.

math checks out Wink

canaan   1,424.56THs, seems they have dropped significant Hash Rate. I wonder why? Also, I am about growing my farm with Avalons, does anyone have specs on the new A8 that is rumored to come out in January. Looking to add another ~150 TH/s to max out my available power. Any info regarding the A8 would be appreciated. THX Mine On!!

Keep in mind they ostensibly do burn-ins on their batches...

Canaan has gone to great lengths to reiterate that any specs you see on an A8 at this point are BS. We (Canaan customers) have received notices to only believe what we see from corporate. I tend to rely on that, as they've always been considerably more honest in their overall dealings than BiteMe.

it is a really good way to look at things, instead of getting manipulated by everyone's guesses, as fun as they can be.

I guess I will wait before spending my next batch of cash. I was looking at those 16TH/s Miners that were introduced earlier but I saw that as a crap shoot since they have yet to ever deliver a product to anyone and they were taking Pre-Orders. I will hold off and wait. Thanks to everyone who replied. MINE ON!! Rubbing Lucky Rabbits Foot, lets get a BLOCK!!!

Yeah you've got to be careful, though there's always a degree of risk with everything. As mentioned, only use authorized dealers of manufacturers you trust and have a track record. Though, that's not always enough. I was going (preorder) to buy a KNC neptune, having thought they were good for in based their past successes. They refunded the purchase, though, so it's not like I got scammed.
140  Economy / Speculation / Re: using futures to offset short term losses on: December 12, 2017, 08:24:56 PM
I don't get very well how a future is different than selling some of your stash for a retail client, I suppose the big advantages are for institutional investors....

I'm still getting my head around it to. Its basically a bet on how something will perform price wise.

What I'm confused about is some people are saying the futures involve no bitcoin, but they do my the standard 'old school' definition of a future, which is a transaction agreed upon to take place at some predetermined time in the future. So If I have bitcoin to sell, i'm shorting and if you want to buy bitcoin you are holding the long. If we decide on a price of $18,500 with a date of February 14th, 2018 then on that date I would, by assurance of our contract, sell you bitcoin at $18500. I think the gamble here is you are hoping the price will be higher than 18.5k and you would therefore being buying at a discount. I'm hoping btc is worth less than that, so I can basically sell it to you at a profit then buy another one at a lower price to replace my holdings, so net profit.

says "
So, a futures contract is an agreement between two parties: a short position - the party who agrees to deliver a commodity - and a long position - the party who agrees to receive a commodity. In the above scenario, the farmer would be the holder of the short position (agreeing to sell) while the bread maker would be the holder of the long (agreeing to buy). We will talk more about the outlooks of the long and short positions in the section on strategies, but for now it's important to know that every contract involves both positions.
