What would be the reason that one would purchase this unit over the S9? Reliability is much better or so I have read, but power consumption is not. Would it be the fact that bitmain is not months behind and paying the scalper prices on ebay is absurd? Not trying to start anything here. Just attempting to confirm what I believe the reasons are based on my research. All in all given the retail pricing of both units wouldn't the S9 be the better machine 9 (not considering reliability).
Well with Bitmain where you have to pay 3 months in advance for an S9 ... that's 3 months of lost mining ... which is a VERY long time. If instead you can get a miner much faster ... then that also needs to be factored in. At the moment neither of them can supply miners quickly, but a few months back most people ignored the fact you could get an A7 when you couldn't get an S9. We'll see what happens when the A8 is released ... Then of course, as mentioned above, the RMA on an S9 is pretty much a joke ... so you gotta hope your S9 never fails ... Does Miner/Warez have the same policy as Caanan for purchase. I was reading from Caanan that I need an import license and a business license. I am essentially a hobby miner, this is not even close to my main business. Can anyone share their experience with Minerwarez and their requirements? Thanks and we are @100% of DIFF, Come On Block!!! The Bitcoin Kabookie Dance Session was performed in support of this next block. Mine On. You would buy from MinerWarez instead of Caanan. Caanan would be more for the bigger purchases, not hobby miners like yourself.

Minimum order directly from Canaan is 60 units. I've already done business with Minerwarez (Washington, U.S.) and am pleased. There's now another North American Distributor (Blokforge) and I'm going to try test them out next.

I wish I had the power overhead for 60 miners (a pallet), but like many, I am limited in that regard. It seems Minerwarez, as a US Distributor, can meet my needs. How much power the A8 consumes and what the TH/s spec is, will dictate my max capacity. Mine On!! BTW thanks for posting the Table Above, being a Math guy, I can appreciate the data, the probabilities are the probabilities. Mine On. Thx

One of my two S9s had one hash board stop working. After some research I found I could get it replaced for about $600.00 . At the time the S9 was selling for under $1200. Needless to say I have mined on with only 2/3rds of one of my S9s. I probably should buy a 1000 Watt power supply to power the 2/3rd S9 and free up its power supply for use with a 741/761/A8.

This is voodoo - had a couple S9's with same problem. One board (always chain 6) either dead or missing chips on reboot. This works for me - not sure why? Turn off all power for a few mins Reboot with no internet connectionLet it cycle for about 30 mins - it will start up and shut down repeatedly. Connect internet. Magic - it runs for about 2 weeks above 13.5TH/s. Sometimes repeat a couple of times till you get the correct performance - be patient - wait at least 24 hrs till you decide. If GH/S(ideal) for chain 6 (or any chain) is in the 2k range - repeat immediately. All 3 chains should be above 4k. Then eventually (after about 2 weeks with 100 x HW errors of the other 2 chains) chain 6 board goes down over a couple of hours in GH/S(ideal) to the 2k region. Just repeat and it recovers - all good for another couple of weeks. I'd be very interested to know if it works for you - and if anyone might have an idea why? NEVER return your miner to Bitmain China (via Hong Kong) on warranty - they take over a month and send somebody else faulty shit miner back - dirty full of mosquitos from Taiwan, not fixed and with same chain 6 problem. Its just a Swaparoo (an Aussie term that CAN mean just keep moving things around, look busy and trying to help - but don't do anything useful). Support goes DEAD eventually if you keep complaining that your WARRANTY replacement has the same problem you started with. Cheers - usukan

Availability as well. You couldn't get an S9 from Bitmain either they were only releasing the L models for Eth and Ltn and or they were selling them for BCH. Then Canaan released the A7 and people slowly adopted them because they got tired of waiting for s9's. problem is, neither company can supply enough miners and frankly, they both are probably using every miner they make to mine their own BTC. I don't care what anyone says, but I am a firm believer that's the case. I don't expect it to change for a while. Every now and then they will release a batch to make us think they are trying but they will be limited, go faster than most of us can purchase them etc. Normally, when supply overruns retail the companies will limit the purchase of an item to a few per customer. I don't believe these companies do that. So say they do make 1000 miners for sale. They put them up on their site and two people purchase them all. Leaving the rest of us out of luck.

Well of course they’re not limiting the purchase amounts. It makes more sense for them to prefer to sell in bulk because there’s less hassle than dealing with multiple people. Saves them both time and money and in the end there’s not many advantages selling individual units over bulk.
