121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: A story about Barney, the 10K Prospector on: February 25, 2015, 10:32:23 PM
Why do people think the 10,000% was the Experiment? The massive amount of inputs is what we needed to test, which is also why it starts staking after only an hour...the stake rate was just set at 10,000% so I had a round number to use. It was never even intended to be launched; people were begging me to post a version of the chain we use to test shit, so I did

I just read up on your ANN, and you said it pretty clearly there. Let me be clear, my statement wasn't a criticism on you for releasing this coin, more of a critique on those who are lampooning the sustainable profitability of this coin.

That said, I'm confident you complicitly made a profit with this coin too.
122  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: 1oK Coin : New king of Alts Best Performing with Ultra-fast transactions on: February 25, 2015, 10:25:33 PM
Of course people made money off of this. Those who got in during the first few days would naturally make tremendous profit. Doesn't mean it'll be sustainable or that new players can even hope to find this level of success.

The intriguing thing is that the price of this coin is following a lognormal-dispersion valuation (delta-parameterized) ever since the high point back on the 7th of February.

Which means, at the rate it's going, it'll reach 1 satoshi at the end of March (if it doesn't reach there sooner). Then another 2 and a half months then it'll hit the 1 litoshi mark.

Fascinating that an altcoin market would actually function like that.

Folks, there is no future for 10k. The interest rate is simply too high. You can use a compound interest calculator online to see what I mean. Here's the one I used:

http://www.thecalculatorsite.com/finance/calculators/compoundinterestcalculator.php

Let's say you buy with a single 10k coin and start staking. Using a 10,000% interest rate and daily compounding, your one coin will grow thusly:

Month 1 - 1,579
Month 2 - 2,495,966
Month 3 - 3,943,284,117
Month 4 - 6,229,847,648,442
Month 5 - 9,842,304,172,222,498
Month 6 - 15,549,489,632,025,366,528

You're reading that correctly, in 6 months a single 10k coin will have staked its way up to over 15 QUINTILLION coins.

Yep, this would be the case if the nominal interest rate is 10000% per annum compounded daily.

I haven't looked at the code for this coin; but if this is the case, anyone with a modicum of financial knowledge would know how stupidly unsustainable this is. You don't need an experiment to show that.

Part of me feels like btc-e is slightly antiquated too. The only nifty advancement that they have is their PAMM service, but that just destabilizes and increases the starting floor over time. That means for more people who want to solo trade stateside, other platforms such as coinbase is more ideal.
126  Economy / Speculation / Re: $35 or $3,500 within 24 months? on: January 30, 2015, 11:15:37 PM
I'd say $35 is way more likely than $3,500.

For kicks, I applied some lognormal distributions to a multinomial tree on a "generic stock" and looked to see neutral chances (while accounting for a marginal 8% gain per annum) of reaching either price over the next five years. Let's just say if I were a betting man, I'd stick with my first sentence.

[As a caveat, from the $100 point in September 2013, the same distributions said that $10 was much more likely than $1000 in five years, and we know what happened there...]

Sadly, I kinda agree; this looks like a "dead cat" bounce.

Oh well, I bought at 175, and sold enough to cover cost +10% (as a hedge) at 215. I've just stored the remaining coins leftover from the transaction.

If price goes up from here, yay. If not, at least I got myself covered...

I honestly think after failing to hit a breakout in December, it's gonna be a bear market for a while longer.

DirectBet => 5.0  Smiley

This is my preferred bitcoin book by far (and is slowly transitioning on becoming my second book overall).
It offers many nice features, while at the same time offering anonymous betting.

Did you seriously swipe what I wrote for my review (i.e. copy and paste)?

I don't know how I feel about this...

I don't think we can really call this "official" per se...

Anyhow, I quite easily gave my vote to DirectBet, and I'm not sure why it's such a surprise they are doing so well.

I read a lot about shill accounts and that sort of thing; and if that is the case, that's unfortunate, because based on my experience with them, they can win on their own merits.

I've used other BTC sportsbooks in the past, and the straightforwardness and relative anonymity of DirectBet is unmatched in the cryptocurrency world. I do agree with the arguments that they are a bit slow with the lines for the non-primetime games in things like CFB/NCAAB, but more often than not, lines for pro games are available quite early. Sure, they might not be flashy, but everything is straightforward and reliable, and that's what wins it at the end of the day for me.

DirectBet.eu 5.0

Right around the time I started looking for a BTC book, I came across this thread. After seeing the positive reviews for this site, I decided to give it a try. Now, this is my preferred bitcoin book by far (and is slowly transitioning on becoming my second book overall). It offers many nice features, while at the same time offering anonymous betting.

They offer a lot of options for many of the popular events (like SNF/MNF), and they also offer at least the basic lines for many of the major games. On top of that, you can negotiate odds, settlements are quick, all while linking only a BTC payout address.

As for offered odds, they are very close to Vegas odds, and for those few times that the offered odds aren't, they are fine with arbitrage betting (I haven't had my bet rejected when I took an arbitrage opportunity).

Best of all, the process is so, so, so, painless. It really is no muss, no fuss, no hassles.

I highly recommend DirectBet.eu as either a supplementary book or a primary book.
137  Economy / Speculation / Re: Does it even matter if you buy at $300 vs $400 vs $600..... on: November 21, 2014, 06:54:35 PM
Price is pretty low at the moment

Very unlikely to drop below 250 imo

We will see future prices of 10K+ its just a matter of time

You should all be buying as much BTC as possible right now!
A matter of time huh? Cause one millennium is a matter of time.

I still think prices are prepped for upward rally movement, but not that much.
138  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Businesses get $25,000 fine for using Bitcoin, $2507 fine for gov officials on: October 08, 2014, 10:29:52 PM
Russia has been on a serious streak of stupid bans. And the sad thing is that this ban isn't even remotely near the "stupidest" of bans within the past few months.

Just remember, they've banned the import of food from a whole bunch of countries. That led to food prices increasing by a bunch of percentage points within a few weeks.

The bitcoin ban was somewhat anticipated and surprisingly not as "stupid." Then again, as mentioned, how the hell are they gonna enforce this?

139  Economy / Speculation / Re: Stop calling 'the bottom' on: October 08, 2014, 10:15:08 PM

We will stay at 250-350 for atleast few years.
Deal with it.

Easy bet. If we break out of 250-350 region at any time before the end of *this year* (Dec 31st 2014) based on bitstamp data, I get X money from you. If we do not, you get Y money from me. Y can be 3 times larger than X, you name whatever X you can afford, we can pick a trusted escrow, I prefer bitcoin. Ready to deal with it? PM me. Not ready to deal with it? Stick your prediction up your ass and switch to readonly mode Smiley

You'd just have lost your bet, too bad you are such a chicken who can't stand behind his words. Oh well, nothing new. Silly trolls gonna troll.

Damn, I so wish this bet actually happened. Oh well. That n00b troll is on to trolling the price movement thread with crap about USA banning bitcoin.

Trolls are so funny...
140  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is going down - What Altcoins to buy? on: October 08, 2014, 09:33:13 PM
I'm not going to give any "picks" for altcoins since, as previously mentioned, they are all pretty much dependent on bitcoin.

However, I will recommend picking a coin that you think will be able to maintain a stable rate in the medium term (i.e. 3-6 months). When bitcoin price kicks up again, shift over and rebalance your holdings.

XC comes to mind.... It seems to be very stable and has been for quite some time.

^ this

Since these two were so kind to quote me and give their pick:

The BTC price of XC when they quoted was right after a small spike (hitting 0.0017) at 0.0015; price in USD: $0.60
The BTC price of XC today (nearly three weeks later) is 0.0013; price in USD: $0.40

Not all so bad in terms of BTC; but in USD, a significant hit larger than the drop that BTC has taken.

However, like I said, the aim is a 3- to 6-month stretch. And its BTC price trend has been pretty decent.

That said, I'm not actually endorsing that pick, just stating facts...
