1201  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-1-25] When Bitcoin ETF? Not Any Time Soon, But Maybe by 2020 on: January 26, 2019, 11:16:56 AM
People are trying to make us think that ETF would start a rally but we had a rally to 20000 dollars without it and even better we had it in time when the first ETF was rejected and they reapplied and got rejected again. During that second rejection Bitcoin was worth twice more than it is now so let's stop pretending like the ETF has any impact on price.

The previous bull run was fueled by speculation because CBOE futures IIRC. And yeah even though several ETFs was denied, it was not Van Eck (or at least people still believe VanEck will definitely get an approval).

After watching the market, I believe the 4-year cycle from bull-bear will come again. So based on pure price history, 2020 should be the next crypto bull year.
1202  Other / Meta / Re: I need information on data on: January 26, 2019, 06:37:36 AM
I'm about writing an article on blockchain development and its user base in Africa and I need some data information from forum to back it up withother information I'm gathering kit forum. I know the geographical location of users can be determined by their IP addresses so I'm requesting for number of registered bitcointalk account users from Africa both active and achieved.

What's the relation between the number of registered user in Bitcointalk with blockchain development in Africa? How can you filter which one register for blockchain development and for bounty hunting?

Anyway, if you still want to look at "how many people use/know/participate in blockchain/bitcoin related stuff", maybe there are other data source that you can use:
- Localbitcoins volume transactions in Africa.
- Number of registered African users in various exchanges.
- Number of blockchain/bitcoin/crypto related search from Africa.
- Number of blockchain/bitcoin/crypto company related in Africa.
- and so on.

I assume you're doing a pool mining. Based on this thread it is because you send bad hash of good data or good hash of bad data.[1] You might want to share more details if you want to find the specific reason for your case, and should move this topic to mining section (either Bitcoin or Altcoins).

1204  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: When did Electrum Wallet Originated? on: January 26, 2019, 04:15:23 AM
Although some progress has been achieved in this regard, many still use exchanges as their main wallets. Sometimes this is not bad move, in the light of recent events with Electrum, beginners are safer with online wallets. They not read, think or have enough knowledge to recognize threats, and as a result, they lose money and trust in cryptocurrency.

At some point, I think it's not because they lack information or ability to learn, but because they prefer simplicity to security. A lot of members that I know here, tend to use exchange wallet as their main wallet because it's easier to use when they want to cash out. And claiming that it's safe enough to store here. Sometimes ignorance is the main problem which unfortunately difficult to change.
1205  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How about a big list of Forks? on: January 26, 2019, 03:45:42 AM
Any fork that doesn't credit my wallet automatically, I just ignore it. I don't seem to have the energy to begin claiming it.

I believe there is no way you can claim forked coins without doing some technical works, unless you leave your coins on an exchange that support the fork. Most forked coins that make a new chain requires you to 'claim' it because there's a chain split.
1206  Economy / Speculation / Re: On short selling on: January 25, 2019, 07:19:23 AM
i think it really helpful with me now . thank you very much
do you think it is a clear plan?

Broken bot?

sell fast if you get a profit, of course, it doesn't matter because you can get results, and when you don't get a profit, it's better to hold on to the right time to make a sale.

Have you read the OP?

So is massive short-selling good or bad for Bitcoin or is it in fact completely irrelevant in the long run?

Short-shelling (either margin or simply dumping) is inherently part of the market, and it can hurt any asset, not only Bitcoin. Looking at price history, we can see massive dump or pump for Bitcoin, roughly every 4 years. Tbh there is no one who knows whether this action will be relevant or not for the future, but someone might argue that if we hold the $3k level it could provide massive support for the future (TA wise).

Bear and bull will come and go in every asset. If you need to cut loss, then you can sell, but if you think holding won't hurt you even if the price fell as low as $0, then holding might be your choice.
1207  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Lightning Network: Can it be the next level of business form? on: January 25, 2019, 04:54:20 AM
So, it looks like running an e-commerce shop and accepting payments through LN looks more profitable than opening hundreds of LN. A lot of e-commerce already start to use LN too, according to some reports[1].

I'm not sure if you did read OP or not (or If I misunderstood this post), but I'm pretty sure your answer is a way off. Please re-read the OP or read previous messages above yours.
1209  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S - no transaction history export (.csv) on: January 25, 2019, 03:43:42 AM
I was helping a friend from my job to buy bitcoin and he had so many doubts, and the solutions were far to complex.

He had to set 2fa, save passphrase, etc, and he wasn't expecting any of that.

I've found case like this many times. We want everything to be easy to use yet secure at the same time. I believe the issue is only about adoption and probably habits. It doesn't take much time to learn and get the gist of the average crypto related things such as wallet, private key and so on. If anything, I think people tend to make it more complicated than it sounds. 2FA is the basic thing of security nowadays, not only in crypto. On top of that, security awareness is an issue not only in crypto but other business too[1]. I tend to believe that if it comes to security, people must learn and if there's no way to make it simpler, then that's it, don't join if you can't do the basic.

But of course, if we can make it more user-friendly (at least this transaction export history thing) our life will be much easier.

1210  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: Samsung S10 crypto wallet leaks on: January 25, 2019, 03:17:39 AM
As others have said, I also don't see why they would open themselves up to the possibility of phones being lost/stolen/damaged and users losing their coins forever, and all the complaints and liability that would come with that.

They'll use the magic word: "Disclaimer" to handle this. I think Samsung will have some short of security to protect the wallet such as pin or something like that, but we don't really know unless we can try the device.

The word "KeyStore" to me just makes it sound like Samsung will be storing your keys and you will be able to recover your account if you lose your phone.

Even if it is like that, I don't think it's a problem for some people. They'll choose simplicity over security, and the potential of Samsung abusing their power for this business is quite minuscule. Unless they wanted to be labeled as exit scam, or they somehow find a way to stole their user crypto without being detected.

If you think about a business's point of view, investing in a cryptocurrency wallet would be very disruptive and would put Samsung ahead of your main competitors who are Google Wallet and Apple Pay.

Make sense. GoJek also did the same by acquiring Coins.ph. Let's hope people who bought and use this will have enough awareness that their crypto can get stolen anytime if they're not careful enough.
1211  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: CoinGecko 2018 Crypto Report on: January 25, 2019, 02:47:24 AM
Their decline is related to hard fork events on the platform. In particular, the hard fork event of Bitcoin at the end of 2018 has caused Bitcoin and Bitcoin cash to be greatly affected, causing them to decline sharply in the long run. You see that many developers want good markets back by creating the hard fork, but the results go against their hopes.

There is no fork of Bitcoin at the end of 2018, only BCH with their hash war drama. Someone suggested that Ver and CW sold their Bitcoin to fuel the war and protect their ego which is why Bitcoin dumped too, but it is hard to determine the truth of this statement.

Now that there's little interest in ICO-s, but more interest in conducting one for your own company - competition solved a ton of issues without the need for a government to intervene and regulate.

Not sure what you're saying but essentially I get that more company want to run their own ICO? I'm pretty sure 2019 onward we won't see ICO bubbles like in 2017. Regulation will probably take place and prevent scam ICOs to run, or people will be a lot smarter in determining which ICO they wanted to participate. Most of them will probably run STO though.
1212  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: bitcoin lowest value of the year. Other perspective on: January 24, 2019, 06:24:04 AM
But the Gap is  not too much and it is just start of year, probably it can go below $3200. Low value chart only make sense who is very early investor. It does not make sense for someone buying in 2017 and selling in 2018 because might bought price will be much more than lowest value.

I'm pretty sure we can go lower than $3k because ETF has been withdrawn by CBOE, Bakkt is likely delayed again, and market could panic because of this and panic sell happens, bear take over and it will go for months. Just like any previous cycle.

Anyway, early adopters will always be rewarded. It's no use debating how can we interpret the chart, as long as you can make profits and decrease your loss without doing any shady things, that's what matter the most.
1213  Economy / Reputation / Re: Need opinions about few fake ICO who have listed on Dex or worst C-ex on: January 24, 2019, 06:03:29 AM
Adding to this,  @Coolcryptovator since you're good at busting this scam project it'll be great to make a thread on list of already exposed scam icos trading on exchange. You can combine your list with other users doing the same busting ICO scam stuffs. What do you think?

I like this idea pretty much, but I'm not pushing anyone to do it either. First of all, investor/trader whatever you called it should do their own due diligence in the first place, and I'm pretty sure low volume/low price will eventually make them sell the tokens.  But of course if somebody did this (I could do it if I have time) then it's great.

1214  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is KYC necessary for crypto-to-crypto exchanges? on: January 24, 2019, 04:55:14 AM
Tbh I'd rather not send my personal details online to someone who I never met in real life. Most exchange requires KYC (even crypto to crypto) because they're afraid government will fine or shut them down. Oddly enough, some of them don't reveal their real identity too. Which is kinda saying something like, "hey I know you, but you don't know me. I'll take your money away after this".

Let's just use atomic swap if we want to trade crypto, no KYC (at least it should be) at all.
1215  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2019-01-23]Two Dutch Financial Authorities are Pushing For a National Licensing on: January 24, 2019, 04:12:17 AM
Seems like only crypto to fiat will be regulated. Does this mean crypto to crypto exchange is free to operate? Or will they also require to be licensed by the government?

I'm pretty sure KYC will take place if everything needs to be regulated. Seems like anonymous exchange will no longer exist.
1216  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Can bitcoin sustain itself on fees alone? on: January 24, 2019, 03:19:53 AM
I reckon people who might want to use bitcoin regularly might instead choose to use an altcoin because they get the same results without paying for the high fees.

It really depends on which altcoin survive and how's their development I believe. Regular folks won't use Monero, and importantly most people know about Bitcoin and it is relatively more adopted than other cryptocurrency. I can pay subscription using Bitcoin at this moment on file hosting site such as Mega, where IIRC they don't accept other cryptocurrency.

All of this experimentation in recent years is heading towards what the core developers have been mumbling about all along - all necessary scaling is looking increasingly like an impossibility on chain.

Yeah, I believe 2nd layer will be the solution to scale Bitcoin. On-chain transactions will only be used for something which requires a very high security just as Murad Mahmudov said. And when this time come, how much will 1 BTC worth anyway? If it's $1 million/BTC then 1k satoshi for fees is more than enough.
1217  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: how to get segwit address in the electrum wallet on: January 23, 2019, 05:29:15 AM
Btw, you can use Ian Coleman BIP39 tools to generate the BIP39 seed.[1] After that you can import it to your Electrum. Don't forget to check BIP39 when you import your seed.

1218  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Ledger Nano S - no transaction history export (.csv) on: January 23, 2019, 05:02:29 AM
settings => help => view user data.
this opens the ledger live dir and there you have to look at a file called app.json (not accounts.json). its only usable if you have not encrypted your ledger live.

Thanks, it seems I followed a wrong guide then. Will try to check it later. Tbh this does not really matter to me because Bitcoin is not taxed in my country, but it's probably a good thing to have.

Theoretically, it should be a relatively simple task to import that json into a script and get it to output the transaction history into a .csv format of your choice.

Yeah, there are some JSON to CSV converter on the internet too. Never tried anything though.
1219  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Coin developer on: January 23, 2019, 04:29:56 AM
Project Development!
Coin developer seeking a new coin project
bitcoinminingclud@gmail.com

I don't understand programming.
I'm looking for the best partners for this project.

I'm not really sure I followed you correctly, but from your first message I get the impression that you're a cryptocurrency developer. How can you not understand any programming if you develop a cryptocurrency? What's your previous project then?
1220  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: TITAN 2 - Fulijuntuan - FRAUD on: January 23, 2019, 04:01:37 AM
According to this thread[1], it seems that Fulijuntuan is scamming people. Their product is actually several ASIC miners stacked together. It's quite possible that you got scammed.
