More losses and job cuts in the banking sector:

The Current State of the Struggling Financial Sector

http://www.modestmoney.com/current-state-financial-sector/30834?

That is significant, their stocks are down 12% to 22%, and one company is going to lay off 4,000 employees. I take it the fines from 'white collar crimes' are killing them and people are in turn losing confidence. Hopefully the digital currency and fintech industries have and will continue to absorb some of the loss in jobs. It is always disheartening to see people being laid off, especially under these circumstances.

Since the 2008 financial crises, most of the banks that survived have recovered significantly, mostly due to plenty of "cheap" money available. On balance, banks are in a better position this time around, but are confronted with more challenges, especially coming from the digital currency and FinTech space. And it is just the beginning. Major job loses in the banking sectors will continue for years.

Quite liked this ad, which is much better than the Paypal ad in the superbowl:

https://www.facebook.com/BITCOlN/videos/567906546697653/

Great ad. Very generous of Paypal. The message came across that Bitcoin is the new money. Yes, Bitcoin is the new money. So is DNotes.

Our best wishes to you all for a very Happy and Prosperous Chinese New Year!!!

Our industry will continue to bear the growing pain of setbacks as the technologies continue to evolve and advance. Those who lack the clear vision of true entrepreneurs will bear the bulk of the pain.

Successful entrepreneurs do not see setbacks as failures. They see setbacks as short-term problems needing solutions that can help them get back on track to their visions destination. People like Elon Musk and Bill Gates thrive on challenges, and never feel defeated for long. Every breakthrough solution to a problem gives them inspiration. It entrenches further their belief that their vision will be realized. Unforeseen problems and lost battles are not considered failures to such an individual. Where some people see failure, the budding entrepreneur will instead see a learned lesson that will help them to harness and create future success.

Learned lessons are not free. The successful entrepreneur does not fail; the successful entrepreneur merely defers success until more time has passed.” - Alan Yong, February 2016

Wow, looks like they just added us.

Fairly popular exchange in the Philippines. http://www.alexa.com/siteinfo/safecex.com#trafficstats

Were we on a voting list or something or did they just add us?

Edit: Looks like they do have a voting list. One vote per account style.

Looks like DNotes is already listed. Just waiting for someone to support it.

Just got off a call with Tim and his friend who as an active trader and well versed in bots. Thank you by the way Daniel, and Tim for setting it up. Although the Cryptocurrency markets are unlike any others, we were able to pick up a few things that could be of interest for our bot building program. They may require more advanced calculations, like CryptoBroker mentioned about the bands and x day moving average, but the bot building program can evolve over time and hopefully we can build useful tools for everyone while helping to meet DNotes long term goals.

It may be ages before my mob gets into bot-trading, but it’s fine to see so much happening in this community. Got a bot. Got a book forthcoming. Got discussion about P2P. Got Cryptomoms humming along. So many other cryptocurrency communities seem a little lackluster at present.

Mark (IndiaMikeZulu), Australia

Mark, we thank you for your support, trust, and confidence in DNotes and its communities. Your brief description of what is going on at DNotes is a reflection of our of multiple missions and strategic executions of wide ranging objectives to accomplish numerous goals as we seek to accomplish our long term vision of DNotes mass acceptance as a trusted global digital currency that everyone worldwide can participate and be commonly accepted as a supplement to fiat currency.

It may be ages before my mob gets into bot-trading, but it’s fine to see so much happening in this community. Got a bot. Got a book forthcoming. Got discussion about P2P. Got Cryptomoms humming along. So many other cryptocurrency communities seem a little lackluster at present.” Mark

In view of our recognition that DNotes is participating in a massively disruptive and revolutionary technology, with world changing implications, we know that it is not easy for many people to understand or value what we are doing. Although the book is written to be a source of wisdom and inspiration for small business owners and startups, many readers will gain a significant understanding on why DNotes has been positioned and managed so differently. As we have said before – DNotes is managed as a business but not controlled as a business.

Great article Brandon, very thought provoking!

Thanks, I'm hoping this will pique the interest of firefighters around the world and encourage them to learn more about blockchain technology.

Excellent article. Is it posted on LinkedIn?

Sure is. It can also be found on www.ff4dc.com

P.S. http://www.firerescue1.com/ asked if they could re-publish your article with credit. So we may see your article there soon as well. I'm sure it will reach a lot of the right people for it there.

That would be excellent, I've been a big fan of FireRescue1 for many years.

Good job, Brandon.

Commonwealth Countries 1  vs.  Russia 0

Commonwealth Pushes Member Countries to Declare Bitcoin Legal

The Commonwealth of Nations has released a new report that calls on its 53 member countries to speak out about the legality of bitcoin and other digital currencies.

Published on 3rd February, the report is the result of nearly a year of research conducted by the Commonwealth through its Working Group on Virtual Currencies. The group was commissioned following a roundtable event convened last February by the Commonwealth Secretariat, its main governmental body.

The report found that of the countries under its mandate, only Bangladesh had deemed that bitcoin and alternative digital currencies were unlawful, and that even after this declaration, such activity continues unabated.

With this in mind, it concluded that member countries make a "positive determination on the legality of virtual currencies" given its conclusion that the "prohibition of virtual currencies is unlikely to be effective."

The report reads:

"Financial regulators and central banks should consider making public statements on the legality of virtual currencies and the applicability of any existing legislative frameworks. Education and funding should be provided for training for law enforcement."

Overall, the report provides a comprehensive overview of developments in the bitcoin and blockchain ecosystem, with sections ranging in coverage from its more positive use cases in payments and remittances to the use of the technology in cybercrime.

Concurrent with member country concerns about crime, researchers even attempted to access a "dark web crawler" for purposes of the report. However, due to delays in the acquisition of this resource, any findings were too early to be included.

The Commonwealth of Nations includes 53 states in Africa, Asia the Caribbean, Europe and the Pacific, including such notable markets as Australia, Canada, India and South Africa.

Regulatory recommendations

On the subject of criminal offenses, the report recommended that member states move to ensure their laws apply to the technology while collaborating more broadly with other regulators around the globe.

The report advised that regulations be applied as necessary to prevent money laundering and terrorist financing, pointing out that, to date, this has meant overseeing ATM and exchange-related services.

However, the paper acknowledged lawmakers would need to take an "innovative" approach to any rulemaking, given that crimes can still be committed by digital currency users who are not converting funds into government-backed currencies.

The paper went on to encourage member states to make public statements on how the use of digital currencies falls under tax laws when they are used as a medium of exchange; update legislation related to the proceeds of crime; and extend consumer protection frameworks to cover the industry.

Regulation was notably not recommended for distributed ledger use cases of the technology, as the report read:

"Any regulatory and legislative frameworks should focus on interactions with fiat currencies and avoid attempting to regulate the underlying decentralised ledger technology."

Evidence of use

More unique to the report was its attempt to quantify how widely used the technology is in Commonwealth member countries.

Using public sources, researchers ultimately found evidence that the basic Bitcoin Core wallet had been downloaded in 46 member states, though use varied sharply.

While the report acknowledged it suffered from a lack of available data, it did suggest that bitcoin use is correlated with Internet access, with the "countries with the highest levels of Internet penetration" having the highest wallet downloads.

http://www.coindesk.com/commonwealth-member-countries-bitcoin-legal/?utm_content=buffer1a728&utm

That is excellent news. The commonwealth of nations is a very powerful group of countries. I am in agreement with their conclusions and recommendations:

"Any regulatory and legislative frameworks should focus on interactions with fiat currencies and avoid attempting to regulate the underlying decentralised ledger technology."

Regulatory compliance should only apply when fiat currencies changed hand with digital currency, such as an exchange that accepts fiat currency for digital currency.

RBC Capital Markets has notified their clients that in a worst case scenerio recession, stock prices could tumble 50%. Instinct is telling me that they can see the writing on the wall that the banks will not get away with what they pulled off leading up to the last recession, and are protecting themselves by warning their customers.

Recession risks warn of ‘severe’ drop in the stock market

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/recession-risks-warn-of-severe-drop-in-the-stock-market-2016-02-02?siteid=rss

This could cause some serious pain worldwide. Personally, I believe that the probability of a recession in the next 12 months is significantly higher than 50%.

Deutsche Bank fixed income analysts said:
"Based on their analysis of Treasury yield spreads, adjusted for current artificially low yields, they place the probability of a recession in the next 12 months at 46%. That’s well above the Federal Reserve’s model, which estimates a 4% probability of recession".

Alt-cap-to-Btc-cap has snuck over 12%.

Not sure what to make of it. There are a lot of new names added to CoinMarketCap top 50s.

DNotes is trending up. Being sustainable is more important. It is better if it doesn't go up too much too fast, even though it is still significantly undervalued.

Mea culpa, Dyna. Here is the context that makes the figure helpful:

from memory, there were 32 coins indexed on Coinmarketcap when IndiaMikeZulu bought its first Bitcoin, in May, 2013. The Big Spike began late that year, and the number of alts increased by literally hundreds. Well, somewhere during the spike, we noted that the alt-to-Btc ratio had rocketed to . . . 24%??

Then The Big Un-Spike began; and at times in 2014-15, the ratio fell to 2%. I personally foresee the ratio ultimately settling around 30%. For the first couple of months of the 'revival' 'organic' increase in Bitcoin's price, the alt ratio stayed stubbornly at around 8%.

WTS.

Thank you for the explanation. It may take a few more years but that ratio will get close to 50% with some leadership rotations. Despite Bitcoin going up and down, its dominance will remain for a long time.

I'm glad we have the opportunity to partner with such a talented team at PayServices. I'm most excited to see how effectively their point of sale terminals are implemented. Many of you may not know this, but when I was younger I spent a couple years in hospitality management at different locations. One of the biggest headaches that caused noticeable losses in revenue came from archaic POS systems going down, forcing us to employ a cash only policy until the machine was fixed. It's about time someone injected some real innovation into that industry!

I agree CryptoBroker, P.S. they are shipping out the first of their butterfly cards:

The first cards are shipping out... Don't forget to get yours!  Smiley

Nice I'm going to have to order one soon. It'll be a cold day in hell before I spend any DNotes, but it's good to have for an emergency, or to spend other cryptocurrencies which aren't promising long term investments.

Big ideas takes time to gain adoption. Once PayServices gained a minimum scale in participation, this will be really cool. We will continue to work with them in ways we can.

Typical of early stage industry, there will be a lot of consolidation as the technology and its ecosystem continues to evolve. It is starting with the exchange and will migrate to include others. It is a healthy sign for the industry.

Japanese Financial Giant Invests in Bitcoin Exchange Kraken
Daniel Palmer | Published on February 1, 2016 at 18:06 GMT

Japanese venture capital firm SBI Investment is leading a Series B funding round in bitcoin exchange Kraken.
While the terms of the deal were not disclosed, Kraken said that a "multi-million dollar" investment had been agreed upon with SBI. Kraken did not say when it expected the Series B round to be completed.
"It’s a fantastic first step toward completing Series B, which will ultimately enable us to scale our business worldwide," said Kraken CEO Jesse Powell.

SBI Investment is the venture capital arm of SBI Holdings, an Internet-based financial group thatreported an operating revenue of roughly $2bn in 2015. The firm recently announced that it would work with Ripple to establish a new company with a focus on Asian markets.
The announcement comes shortly after Kraken disclosed that it was acquiring New York bitcoin exchange Coinsetter in an undisclosed deal.

Kraken closed a Series A funding round in March 2014, raising $5m in a round led by Hummingbird Ventures, an early-phase venture capital firm.

Just wanted to let you all know that I've finally updated my blog again, and posted on CryptoMoms. Life has been quite busy for me lately, but I think I should be able to become a consistent poster on CryptoMoms at least.

It's nice to be back writing about crypto-things Smiley

That is very good to know, Wiser. CryptoMoms can certainly use some help.

All indications are that DNotes will do very well this year. I am very excited about the book which will be completed this month and published in late March. It is expected to be a revenue generator, allowing us to get even more things done. In the mean time, I am focusing most of my time on the book. I greatly appreciate the support and encouragement you all have so graciously given us.

DNotes price is trending up with increased volume. That is a good sign.

This is a pretty interesting article on the current inefficiencies in global trade and how much can be saved by implementing blockchain technology.

Skuchain: Here's how blockchain will save global trade a trillion dollars

http://www.ibtimes.co.uk/skuchain-heres-how-blockchain-will-save-global-trade-trillion-dollars-1540618

The Headline of "a trillion dollars' savings sounds sensational. It will take more than just the Blockchain. A digital currency, back by a trusted party like DNotes, offering a full array of financial and banking services is the right solution to an out-dated LC facilities in global commerce. I had wanted to write an article about it for sometime.
1218  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NOTE]DNotes - Company Launch and Book for Small Business Owners in 2016... on: January 30, 2016, 10:13:33 PM
The First Large Scale Bitcoin Users’ Survey – 22% of Users Have Lost Money To Security Breaches or Self-Induced Errors. We knew it wasn't easy and user friendly to use the wallets and secure them properly, but I didn't expect almost 25% of people would have lost their coins to it.

"A group of researchers from Austria, have presented a large scale bitcoin users’ survey, to examine how users evaluate the bitcoin ecosystem regarding anonymity, security and privacy. The researchers surveyed 990 bitcoin users, of whom around 22% lost part of their funds to security breaches and/or unintentional self-induced errors."

I'm assuming that doesn't include losses due to exchange issues or problems at third parties.

I know many of you would like to see people be their own bank, and I agree, I would like to see that as well. However, it does require a deep technical knowledge that even following guides and doing some research wouldn't protect users enough in my mind. I would much rather see people using the DNotesVault or some form of insured service.

I would be shocked if the 22% did not include Bitcoin losses due to exchange issues or problems at third parties. If the survey included all cryptocurrencies, that percentage is likely to be significantly higher. This is a major hurdle our industry must overcome before mass acceptance is possible. We recognized the severity of the problem and launched DNotesVault as an important part of the solution. Loosing coins through the exchange is a serious problem. I am certain that, as a group, we have lost over two million DNotes due to various issues with CryptoRush, MintPal, Allcoin, and Cryptsy.

1219  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][NOTE]DNotes - Company Launch and Book for Small Business Owners in 2016... on: January 29, 2016, 09:41:30 PM
I am also interested in such a bot that trades for mutual benefit of all stakeholders that want to see this coin succeed.

Interested as well. Would need to be configurable by the user so we could choose our level of risk and aggressiveness. A well designed bot can be beneficial to user and coin. I think it should be designed to slowly increase the value of DNotes rather than directly enrich the user. That will come as the overall value increases.

That is the objective. If we can keep the market more active and our "friendly" bot can make a few extra DNotes to grow the account than it is worth the effort. It sounds simple; to buy low and sell it a little higher. In practice it will work well on up trends but not so well on a down draft. In any case, I have given Joe the green light to go ahead with it.

I am very confident that DNotes price will recover before long. I just finished writing the first draft of the last chapter of my book and will start working on the Smokeys Daylily Gardens Story and the DNotes Story as attachments to the book. It is looking good and I will be reaching out for editing help in a week or two. The book will be published in late March with a dedicated website. It will be a revenue generator for the new company. I am very excited about it. It will be very helpful for many small business owners and startups.

DNotes is a very large scale global project involving an immensely innovative technology. We are blessed to have the vision to see way beyond the horizon of five, ten, twenty years from now and have been positioning our strategic plans accordingly. At the beginning, it was easier for a smaller group of investors to understand what we were trying to accomplish and do differently. As our ecosystem continued to grow and become more complex, it is harder for others to buy in what we are trying to accomplish. Essentially, at this time, there are more DNotes for sale than investors interested to buy.  Eventually they will get it. Once that happen, there will be more people wanting to buy DNotes than available for sale. The price of DNotes will adjust upward until it reaches the next equilibrium.

We seem to have forgotten the powerful combination of our family of CRISPs and DNotesVault. Two dynamics could play out in a significant manner this year. The book will reach a very large number of small business owners and startups. That will give us "a foot in the door" to many small business owners and their employees, whose retirements are underfunded or non-existence.

Additionally, China's economy and its currency are going through significant adjustments. Many Chinese investors have been grabbing up Bitcoin and altcoins, irrespective of investment quality. As expected, there will be a lot of P & Ds. In fact, it is already happening.

Although, we did not plan to expand to the Chinese market till later this year, we are now making some serious efforts to contact the Chinese exchanges that trade altcoins. Frankly, the CRISPs and DNotesVault combination is the perfect package for Chinese investors to acquire DNotes in Chinese Yuan and have the DNotes safely stored in cold storage in the US. I believe that DNotes will be a big hit once it becomes available in China. May be later this year we will begin to listen in to conversation at cocktail parties, "I could have bought 100 K DNotes at 950 satoshi each, and now it is trading at ten times that", or "I shouldn't have sold mine for $1 K. It is now worth over $10 K" Such is life. I sold a large number of Priceline at $1 when the Internet bubble busted. Priceline is currently traded at over 1K per share.

"It is looking good and I will be reaching out for editing help in a week or two."  If you need it, my editing is always free. Wink

Wow - DNotes entering the Chinese market - that is exciting news!!!

Thank you very much Chase. Your editing help will be very much appreciated.

The Chinese market will be very interesting, though the coming Chinese New Year (Feb. 7) may hold things up. CRISP is perfect for Chinese investors. This is what I wrote in an earlier email: " We are excited that DNotes’ family of savings accounts may have great appeal to Chinese investors interested in asset protection and long term appreciation. Known as CRISP (Cryptocurrency Investment Savings Plan) the savings are designed for children, students, employees, and for retirement. The retirement savings pay as much as 12% and the funds are stored in cold storage in the United States. It is very easy to open an account and the funds are guaranteed with 100% protection with matching funds verifiable through the Blockchain. This is an ideal opportunity for Chinese investors."

From what I understand, essentially you will be able to purchase one of their butterfly cards, which comes in the mail initially, and use that balance to exchange for DNotes. It is still in early launch phase. I'm working with their team through the process so I can provide more detail on how it works.

Glad to know you are working with them. I opened an account and am testing out features. Interface is a bit clunky, and I have some deposits tied up somewhere, which support is trying to figure out. I like the idea, anyway, of being able to keep a bunch of different cryptos in one place (that is not strictly an exchange) and to at some point be able to trade them back and forth, or into fiat. I think it's trying to be a glorified shapeshifter, among other things.

PayServices is a very large scale project with a great concept, and as such will be demanding in the execution of multiple strategies. Like any major projects, there will be growing pains and will take some time to sort things out. We are supportive of them to the extent we can, since we are already loaded with our own priorities. We are assisting them with a limited press release and I might be quoted in that PR piece if it goes out as planned.
