1261  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: So far Voting % result shows that there is no bitcoin split. on: August 16, 2017, 01:50:32 PM
I thought the voting was saying there would be a split...?

Bitcoin Cash is essentially a clone of Bitcoin. All the transactions are the same, up to July 31. Some people may call it as an altcoin. But I would call Bitcoin Cash as a split, from the original Bitcoin.
1262  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Just confriming, segwit or segwit2x is going ahead on BTC? on: August 16, 2017, 01:46:15 PM
Obviously 1000 things could change in the next 90 days...
1) BitcoinCore could release a patch to support 2Mb blocks!
2) Miners could stop supporting NYA (SegWit2x) - if this dropped below 50% I think the new chain would die very quickly.
3) Someone else could release a patch ontop of BitcoinCore that supports 2meg block - is trival to code now as can just hardcode a block to switch on.
4) BitcoinCore could release a patch that speeds up the difficulty reduction (like BitcoinCash did) to avoid issue of slow block issue. But obviously massively reduce security of blockchain!

I just hope that #1 will happen before November and a split could be avoided. Not that I am afraid of any splits. For example, the Bitcoin Cash split did more good than harm in my opinion. But I am tired of moving my coins and exporting my private keys every time.
1263  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Poll: Most dangerous country in the world at the moment on: August 16, 2017, 09:39:14 AM
I'd vote for North Korea. Because no one knows when Kim Jong Un will get angry and kill anyone whom he doesn't like. Even the top army officials are not safe there. A few months back, the fat boy had a top ranking army general executed for "lack of concentration" during a military parade.
1264  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Shall Israel nuke Amman? on: August 16, 2017, 09:37:23 AM
Jordan is the country which accepted the maximum number of Palestinian refugees in 1948. If I am not wrong, then a simple majority of the Jordanian population is composed of Palestinians. If Israel nukes Jordan as well, then where will these refugees go?
1265  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why 1 BTC is becoming harder to owned??? on: August 16, 2017, 09:35:31 AM
Its getting harder and harder since people are holding it on long term, also if you have a small chunk of btc you pay crazy fees...

Even now, around BTC1,800 is mined every day. So I don't think that there is any scarcity for Bitcoin right now. And one thing which we need to remember is the closure of BTC-e. They always had the lowest BTC prices among the major exchanges (the reason for which is well known to everyone). The closure of BTC-e has resulted in a small upward spike for Bitcoin.
1266  Economy / Speculation / Re: Will bitcoin go pass the 5000 USD mark? on: August 16, 2017, 09:32:31 AM
Experienced guys are already talking about reaching the $15,000 per coin level by the end of this year (please visit the speculation sub-forum) and you guys are still stuck at the $5,000 per coin mark?  Grin

5K is going to be easy. I expect that target to be attained by the end of this month. I just took a look at the coinmarketcap website and the trade volumes. Please check the BTC/JPY and BTC/KRW volumes and you'll understand why I am so confident about the future prospects of BTC.
1267  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Do you think Bitcoin can ruin a Country? on: August 16, 2017, 09:28:22 AM
Theoretically yes. I can imagine about a million scenarios. For example, Bitcoin can be used for criminal activities such as illegal drug purchases, bribing and ransom payments. And it can also be used for tax evasion (although I would not label it as a crime).
It's already being used for criminal activity, just like any other fiat currency. Crime is and has always been a part of our world and it won't disappear if we start exchanging silver coins again. It won't ruin a country just as it hasn't ruined countries before.

Tax evasion? You can only do it to a certain level and countries have laws that make it not worth the risk (in most cases). If you sell $10k worth of bitcoins a year you can avoid paying taxes, but the loss of your government won't be that big, because you will eventually spend the money and buy products in stores that pay taxes. Your money will fueal the economy one way or the other. If you go big and hide your profits, you're risking getting caught and losing everything.

For now, let's ignore its usage in ransom payments and drug trade. Let's concentrate on tax evasion. Suppose I am a government official living in Russia. I got a bribe of BTC1,000 from someone. I didn't cashed out the coins immediately. Instead I waited for one year and then I went for a vacation to Switzerland. I converted the coins to Swiss Franc, and deposited them in a bank in Switzerland. Now how is Russia going to benefit out of this exercise?
1268  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Questions about ICO participation as a United States citizen on: August 16, 2017, 09:22:43 AM
As far as I know, the SEC hasn't banned the participation of US citizens in the ICOs outright. They have just expressed "concern" over the rising number of ICOs and the shady people behind them. So unless the ICO explicitly bans US passport holders in its terms and conditions, you can participate in them. The federal income tax will be 39.6%, if your annual income is more than $418,401.
1269  Economy / Speculation / Re: Analysis on: August 16, 2017, 09:18:55 AM
I got redirected to this thread from Google news!

https://cointelegraph.com/news/legendary-bitcoin-trader-masterluc-predicts-15000-bitcoin-this-year

Quote
Masterluc now predicts that Bitcoin will reach $15,000 before the end of this year. What’s more, he believes that Bitcoin will reach a price of $40,000 - $110,000 by the end of this bull run. He gives a timeframe of 2019 for that price target.

I don't know how accurate Masterluc has been so far. But if his prediction even becomes remotely close to reality, I will be super-rich.  Grin
1270  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: My bank account was frozen due to suspicious activity on my account on: August 16, 2017, 09:16:51 AM
When you shake in very much money you need to explain for the banks the proceeds will charge monthly income tax of more than $ 20,000. If you move around, be prepared to have all the purchasing documentation.

In some of the countries, there is a maximum yearly limit for financial transactions such as trading in digital goods. If you exceed this limit, then you need to get the necessary permits and licenses. If you think that your account was frozen despite the trade volumes being lower than this limit, then go to the bank branch and explain everything to them.
1271  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Getting Scammed: Go to Police or Cut Losses and Move On? on: August 16, 2017, 09:12:10 AM
you will never get your money back, forget about it and move on
you can report the scammers to the police, just to try and make this world a better place
do not expect anything to come out of this, there will be nothing bad for you,you didn't commit any crime
as long as trading bitcoins is not illegal there

As far as I know trading Bitcoins is not illegal anywhere in the European Union. And you can't say that he will never get his money back. The chances are low, but if he goes to the cops, then there is at least 20%-30% chance that he will get his coins back.
1272  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: bitcoin.de Germany’s Largest Bitcoin Exchange Gave Police User Details Without.. on: August 16, 2017, 09:09:20 AM
I have an account in Bitcoin.de, which I created long back in 2013. I haven't done any trades there and I signed up just because they were having some promotional offer. And if I am not wrong, I didn't gave them any personal ID documents.

Because, probably u trade just bitcoin. but for this u must send personal ID too.
Personal ID documents is used just for trade bitcoin to FIAT.
Well, by the way they send to the police u ID linked wallet and the other ( poor ) info.
And, maybe, if police wanna, they have the possibility to check u info. This is wrong too.
I hope u boicott this site Cheesy

I don't remember them asking for any ID verification back in 2013. Perhaps they added the ID requirement later. But my account was dormant for the last four years and I tried logging in two months back. I could log in, but could not withdraw the coins which I got from the promotional offer (BTC0.01). Even now, they are not asking for any ID from me.

BTW, I would boycott the site. I don't have any use with that account.

My advice would be to go to the cops. I know that it will be difficult to explain about why you did transaction above the 3K limit, but I hope that they will let you off with a fine. And as a victim of crime, they should be giving you a preferential treatment. Since you are having the camera footage as well, it won't be too hard to identify and detain these criminals.

1276  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-08-15] Bitcoin Sets New Record High of $4,483 in Overnight Trading on: August 15, 2017, 03:58:39 PM
What I've noticed since the $3,000 mark is that LBC traders have been buying below the average price, at least in Malaysia and EU. I used to be able to sell very close to that, but now always about $200 below average.

It s quite the opposite situation in my country. Here the average LBC purchase prices are at least 5% higher than the rates in Coinbase or Bitstamp. And this has been the case for at least one year now.

I have noticed this in most of the countries. The LBC prices (in local currencies such as IDR, INR and KRW) are on average 4% to 8% higher than the exchange rates in established fiat currencies such as USD or GBP.
1277  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2017-08-15] Russia Discusses Starting Cryptocurrency Mining With Its 20+ Gigawa on: August 15, 2017, 03:56:33 PM
Be careful when you use these sort of misleading headlines. The minister (Igor Shuvalov) never made any such statement and the Russian government remains openly hostile to the idea of Bitcoin. It was the idea of Bitfury founder Valery Vavilov to use the excess electricity generated in Russia to be used for setting up Bitcoin mining farms.
1278  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BITCOIN affect in WWIII (WORLD WAR 3) on: August 15, 2017, 03:54:05 PM
There is no more world war. Right now there is few countries in the urge of war. This is all a game that's been played by the world grown countries to increase their economy through weapon trading. If this happens surely bitcoin too plays an major role in transaction.

The US-North Korea tensions are showing no sign of any recess. Although I don't think that a potential confrontation between these nations can develop in to a global warfare, the effects it can have on the economy can't be ignored.
1279  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's going on? Bitcoin for the rich only? on: August 15, 2017, 03:49:22 PM
I'm poor, but I invest in bitcoin. Bitcoin does not belong to the rich. Bitcoin is mine, ours (belonging to someone who wants to own it). The Bitcointalk forum has opened up many opportunities for you. Take advantage of all this
I agree bitcoin doesnt intended for rich people it must to all who beleive in bitcoin. Even the bitcoin value is expensive but anyone could use it and invest in bitcoin. Thus, it is all open for those who wants to earn btc.
You are right. Bitcoin is made for everyone, anybody can use it and invest. For sure that i used to be very poor and i'm in financial problem. That was really hard time but I could pass it thanks to Bitcoin. Now I can say that I'm rich. Bitcoin is not only for the rich.

Same here. A few years back, I was in deep financial trouble. I had to dip in to my Bitcoin holdings to survive. Sold a lot of coins at $300 per BTC. But I don't regret the decision now. It was better than taking a personal loan.
