0. No IPO scam
1. No premine
2. Innovations
3. Active dev
4. No more scrypt
5. No huge instamine (if this is not me)
6. Password protected wallets before launch
7. Wallets for Win & Mac
8. Slick artwork

sammy007, how does the "Active dev" get paid, especially if he is not a miner and has literally none of his own coins?

No one should trust a coin where the developer has none of his own coins. Are you actually serious? Don't trust a skinny chef or a deaf music critic.

Have you ever heard the phrase "eat your own dog food" (popular in the high tech startup community)?

Anyway, I suggest everyone check out Monero. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.0

It is missing slick artwork and the Mac build is still very new, but the coin is amazing and has every one of points 1-6 above.

People learned the lesson and preoders are died long time ago.
Trust me, no one who have a bit brain will go for overpriced, non existent gear which maybe will be delivered at date given by factory and will give money towards this whole scam call preorders.

Unfortunately not true. There a $1 million+ pre-order going on right now: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=575499.0

12604  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BMR] Merged mining in BitMonero (proposal) on: April 27, 2014, 12:06:55 AM
I am not in favour of merged mining. Keep Monero separate from ByteCoin for a 'new' clean image from the start. We don't want 'baggage'!

Well said brother. This coin has a compelling technology, great name, a clean launch, a strong respect for fairness, and an amazing team of people. The best path forward is to focus on our strengths and not have anything to do with "that other coin" or even mention it, much less merge mine it. Leave the baggage behind.

Everything about this coin is so far superior to the botched effort that came before, it is remarkable we are even having this conversation.

More then 5 million USA homes use electric heat  they all can use s-1's next fall.

Since the s-1   is the exact same power cost as the electric heat they use per watt.  why not space heat with it   and get some money back.

No big farm can compete with that.

Well said. People do not appreciate the amount of free electricity that is available. No matter how little the industrial miners pay for electricity they will have trouble competing.

You know what would be a killer product? A passively cooled mining box with a thermostat and built-in wifi. Use radiator fins or maybe a sealed oil like one of these. Zero maintenance. Drop in replacement for electric heat. Even if the mining loses money it still saves money on heating costs.
12606  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - a coin with strong privacy based on CryptoNote technology on: April 26, 2014, 11:22:22 PM
Is someone mining with a i7 4770k?
how many blocks per day?
thank you.

You will get about 13-16 H/s on linux with that CPU

There has to be a way to get better performance on Windows. Can we do a build for Haswell or something?

12607  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - a coin with strong privacy based on CryptoNote technology on: April 26, 2014, 10:03:19 PM
This looks very good, wow, its like a NXT done right.

It's not proof of stake (which I'm still not convinced is secure but I haven't seen a careful analysis of the Nxt variation) but it does have strong privacy (unlinkable transactions) and we are very committed to avoiding even the perception of unfair distribution.

Welcome.
12608  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: MRO Monero trading thread and OTC exchange (formerly Bitmonero BMR) on: April 26, 2014, 09:32:15 PM

12610  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BMR] BitMonero emission curve change (proposal) on: April 26, 2014, 09:19:02 PM
I would prefer the switch to 21, but I'm not sure miners will really give their coins up.  So I think in the real world we will be stuck with 21.

Did you mean stuck with 20 (the current)

I don't believe it is the case. My other proposed alternative is switch to 21, but then temporarily reduce the output for a transition period until the total coins agrees with 21, then use 21 going forward from that point.

If some people donate to the community (crowdfunding), the transition period can be shortened.

I've already pledged ~5% of the total coins in circulation.

Quote
In any case, we should start pooling large bounties in order to get a pool up and a GUI.

How are large bounties ever going to happen if people don't donate?
12611  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BMR] BitMonero emission curve change (proposal) on: April 26, 2014, 09:12:40 PM
Are  the BitMoneros supposed to be send back to community if those BitMoneros were bought from miner?

Yes they are. It doesn't matter where you got them, we are still asking everyone to donate half their coins, and if that is done, the total number of coins being created will also be cut in half.

Please understand that you are not losing value by doing this. You are reducing the number of your coins, but the total number of everyone's coins and newly mined coins is also being correspondingly reduced, so each coin should be worth about twice as much.

If double the intended number of coins weren't being given out, you wouldn't have been able to buy those coins at that price. They would have been more expensive (roughly twice as expensive, most likely).

There is an obviously relationship between the number of coins being given out and their price. Look at coins that pay out a million coins per block, their coins are obviously worth much less than similar coins that pay out 10 or 20 coins per block. it's all relative.
12612  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - a coin with strong privacy based on CryptoNote technology on: April 26, 2014, 09:02:13 PM
Mining instructions on front page have been change so that by default you do NOT support merged mining.

To NOT support merge mining, make sure your source code is on the same version with:
Code:
git checkout 0fd82c910b8e4cbf0b3940d6e42f2e992287582d

To support merge mining, change your source code to master with
Code:
git checkout master

TFT has said he will add an explicit voting option, and that votes before it is added won't count:

That's right. Results will be calculated starting from the moment an explicit voting option will be provided.

12613  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BMR] Merged mining in BitMonero (proposal) on: April 26, 2014, 08:55:41 PM
- Conlusion :
Without Merged mining, you can chose to have either 4 BytecoinB or 4 MoneroB.
With Merged mining, you will have 2 BytecoinB and 2 MoneroB.

- Side note :
With this example it's easy to understand why (if you are a rational economic agent) you don't have the choice to not do merged mining if its available (you will just lose 2 BytecoinB).

So if you think Bytecoin was ninja mined and you don't want to validate that with your hash power, you better not want merged mining to be implemented in Monero.

Great analysis and example SlyWax. I would add that without merged mining in your example you still have the choice to get 2 BytecoinB and 2 MoneroB, just mine each one for half the time, and that's what you get. If you have two miners, split them up, otherwise mine one coin for an hour and then switch to the other coin for an hour.

Merged mining gives no additional choice, it only takes away a choice, as you explained above.
12614  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][MRO] Monero - a coin with strong privacy based on CryptoNote technology on: April 26, 2014, 02:31:36 PM
Okay, merge mining is now a clusterfuck because people are voting for it if they grab the source from github without even know it.

Sigh.

TFT already said he's going to change that. Hopefully he does that in such a way that the people who have already grabbed it don't count as votes without knowing about it.

Where?  Config looked like this:
Code:
#define CURRENT_BLOCK_MAJOR_VERSION                     1
#define CURRENT_BLOCK_MINOR_VERSION                     0

Now it looks like this:
Code:
#define CURRENT_BLOCK_MAJOR_VERSION                     1
#define CURRENT_BLOCK_MINOR_VERSION                     1

That doesn't actually do anything though. It all depends how the votes are counted.

Given the change already made, I'd suggest disregarding anything with a 0 or 1, and only count votes with a version number of 2, and not put 2 in there unless the miner explicitly does it.

12616  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [185 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: April 26, 2014, 02:18:12 PM
You get additional 0.5% of the total block reward for finding the block.  At least according to the wiki: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/P2Pool

The code agrees. Divides total reward by 200 in generate_transaction.

12617  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: [185 TH] p2pool: Decentralized, DoS-resistant, Hop-Proof pool on: April 26, 2014, 02:07:12 PM
And with all the hashing power coming onboard, it was my little S1 that found the block this morning  Grin Grin Grin

I'm just excited - it's the first block I've found!

Oh, and I can confirm that merged mining works fine still as I now have block rewards for IXC, NMC, and DVC.

Just curious about one thing.  I must have gotten a reward for finding the block.  Because the amount "mined" my S1 shows in my wallet is way above what the expected payout graphs show on my node.

Does p2pool offer a reward to the block finder?  If so, how much?

I think it's 1%?
12618  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Antminer S1 Sales open] Price changes daily, now 0.619 BTC for 180GH/s on: April 26, 2014, 01:59:25 PM
you don't need the extra fans . so 5 x .619 = 3.095 btc and about 200 for the psu this is about 1600 for 700gh at low power.

That is not bad at all. Equivalent to $2286 for a 1TH miner, except that you get the ability to overclock and stock clock for as long as that makes sense, then switch to low power for longevity. I like this a lot.

12619  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BMR] Merged mining in BitMonero (proposal) on: April 26, 2014, 01:55:37 PM
What do I do to vote?  Linux

If you want to vote against, do nothing and do not upgrade your nodes.

If you want to vote for, you can perhaps just upgrade to the current version from github, although TFT said he would be changing it to require some explicit action to vote, instead of treating everyone who newly downloads or upgrades as voting "for" by default.

OK thanks.  Then I do nothing.  Where is updated code for linux compile?  I don't see.

Precompiled? I'm not sure. I always build my own

I always compile also.  Just not see any update on github to source.

Look in commits
12620  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [BMR] BitMonero emission curve change (proposal) on: April 26, 2014, 01:49:00 PM
I'm against of forced discount of already emitted coins because this destroys trust to development team. Voluntary donations is the only fair way to do this.

I'm in favor of the 21 curve. I suggest this be done by leaving the formula along and changing the block target back to two minutes. The original premise for one minute was to help solo mining. Solo mining is already difficult and new miners are complaining that they often don't get anything, and the coin is only a week old! The increased orphans created by one minute blocks are not a worthwhile trade off.

Probably the first purpose of collected "excess" coins would be pool development?

GUI wallet or pool would be the first priority I would say, but we should probably have some kind of voting process for bounties?
