Unrelated somewhat:

When solo mining, how do you know you've hit a block/won the lottery and should be expecting a 25btc payout soon?

I'd search but the connection I'm on is dying. Thanks for help/links.

sorry for interrupting but out of curiosity do you really think to go solo ?

I stand corrected regarding the SO-DIMM.

fwiw I can say that I was sure they would have used the a SO-DIMM device developed by OrSoC...

That's my fault. I said they would be using their ORSoC SO-DIMM based on the fact they told me they were doing so at the open-day. I'll fire Marcus a mail, and see if he responds with the reason behind what ditching their own Linux based controller for the Beaglebone was. It's got to be cost, and/or performance related.

If I get a response, i'll share it here. Wink

don't worry bro and thanks for sending the email, and of course for sharing the response (if any)

(asked also @KnC forum)

the miner will come with a beaglebone (0) or with a beaglebone black (1)?

sorry for being pedantic but I just want to be sure since the two are quite different in terms of spec

(0) http://beagleboard.org/Products/BeagleBone
(1) http://beagleboard.org/Products/BeagleBone%20Black

true but why should it really matter. as long as they work.. and get you a miner when they say they do is what matters!

sure you're right the main things is that the miner has to mine Tongue

but regarding your "why" this is one of the b/c :

If you have to troubleshoot network connection problems and need to see startup logs and/or change settings, then a keyboard and monitor will be important.

another one that I can add is that the more powerful the linux controller will be the better will be for miner usability.
e.g. let say you want to add a vpn client (like  this one: http://www.ntop.org/products/n2n/) to monitor remotely your miner, I'd dare to say that you will have a higher probability to  succeed in case KnC have taken the BB black route

And for those eagle eyes, yes, it does say "for a Jupiter running at the expected speed of 500 GH/s". That's today's newsflash  Grin

this is what I call a good news (if confirmed)

how does this affect possible roi for day 1 delivery ?

is this worst case or just probable ?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=283820.0

brings tears to your eyes...  Cry

don't worry bro

quoting the relevant part:

Code:
Presales Total 2013:        6,281 Thash
Announced Total 2013:       1,750 Thash
Running Total 2014:         7,380 Thash
--------------------------------------------------------------
Combined Total:            15,411 Thash

Relationship between difficulty and hashing power
Code:
1 TH/s = 0.14 mil difficulty
1 PH/s = 140 mil difficulty
1 million difficulty = 7 TH/s
1 billion difficulty = 7 PH/s
1 trillion difficulty = 7 EH/s

so in march we will have 15.5 PH/s, that implies more or less 2 billion diff.
i've quickly input those data into http://www.bitcoinx.com/profit/ using 2.1billion difficulty and guess... what you'll mine  0.0958 BTC per day @400GH/s.

it's not that bad at current values that means almost 360 USD.

I know you should have taken into account pool fee and electricity cost but I left it as exercise to the readers Tongue

and as last point, hopefully by march you already get back our initial investment

Keep your eye on the website. I hear the prices may be dropping as they get closer to release...

 Wink

It will be a wise move because actually they are selling a GHs/ for 14.5$... way too high for a product that will be available from Nov/Dec at the earliest.

edit1: e.g. btcmine.ch starting from September the 9th (20:00 CET) will sell chips/miners staring from 5$ per Gh/s to a maximum of 8$ per Gh/s (1600$ - 200Gh/s)

Another pre order. Sell now, deliver in December... Thanks but no...

I do agree we're all fed up with pre-order ASIC vendors,
I was merely pointing out that in either case, you like the pre-order scheme or not, VMC prices seem ARE WAY too high.

FTFY

LOL you're right, thanks for the fix.
Just wanna say that I did it right the first time:

@ckolivas, @kano

may I say that thery're thanking for the creation of CGminer ?

quoting the relevant part:

Quote
Secondly with regards to CGminer, and it’s opensource protocol we’ve been able to configure our device unassisted and made a greater than 30% performance increase using the underlying code, for which we would like to thank both kano and ckolivas with their outstanding contribution to the community.

sure I would had wanted a more "close" collaboration between KnC and @kano, @ckolivas.

Another possible scenario is that they didn't changed the CGminer's code but only apply tweaks to PCB/IC/whatever... but I'm not an expert so I don't know if it'd be possible.
When last we spoke, they were talking about writing their own driver for cgminer, so I assume it's just that and not a separate mining application. That is not necessarily good news by the way...

indeed

I hope they (or OrSoC) are skilled enough to get it right
1295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 06, 2013, 09:55:19 AM
Interesting..  Kano they even thanked your for the help you did not know you gave them....
LMFAO....
LOL

Ooh they thanked me too! I feel all warm and fuzzy.

I thought the same when I read it.

1298  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: September 04, 2013, 10:54:27 AM

why 450 GH/s?
real is 400 GH/s
please stop unicorn dreaming

http://mining.thegenesisblock.com/a/86741a2c2a

have you ever heard talk about conditionals?
bye anyway, I'm going back to sleep now Tongue

sure
but 13 PH is possible in march

I guess I have to delay my nap Tongue

So you say 13 PH by march 2014, that means more or less 1.9 billion difficulty.

Let's assume for a moment that the total net hashrate remains constant for the entire month, ok?

At electricity rate (USD/kWh) of .15, 800W PSU, 400GH/s, you'll get circa  340 USD

I've already take into consideration 2% pool/group fee.

300 USD seems not so bad in my opinion, isn't it?

as you can see I remove another 40$ supposing that the miner will stay up only for 90% of the time.

I have a question for you, what is your estimate for the April 2014's average total net hash rate? 26 PH, really ?

If he hadn't canceled his order he would have made a few bucks of profit, in case KnC will keep promises and really over deliver in terms of Hash power, let's say 450 GH/s.

The biggest flaw in his calculation is that he's a groupbuy customer - not an average customer. So it's kinda misleading when he runs around screaming "it's not profitable" when it really is for the average customer. Groupbuyers ALWAYS overpay.

And your few bucks, could possibly be in the thousands. Kinda hard to see the difficulty doubling every month... forever.

When I said a few bucks I was sarcastic Tongue both because I did't really mean few bucks but a few hundread  and because, as you said, exponential diff increase can't last forever Smiley
