I'd call dev-kits custom.
The clue's in the name: Development Kit.
They're like, for development. They're not an end-user product. They are custom. Even calling them COT is a stretch.
I'm comfortable with the forum name.

No, it's not heat related at all. I don't need to take the case completely off for it to work again, just unscrew it. The board must be being twisted when it's screwed shut.
You mean closing the case actually warps the board??? How long are the screws? It would seem to be the case. Slotting the cover on must just warp the board enough to break something. Screw length has nothing to do with it.

Turns out taking the case off fixed it, as screwing it back on broke it. So it off again. Guess there's a track broken somewhere.

IIRC BFL started advertising their SC products (without revealing they were ASICs) at least 6 months ago. Assuming they have been working on them for that long, they will have put 10 months of work in them by October.
It was WAY before that. Their 'Super Computer' products were advertised right next to the single and rig-box from the outset. It can't be way before that. Their website didn't even exist before November-December 2011. http://www.butterflylabs.com/november-production-update/Update 4th Nov 2011. They produced the prototype there in 4 days? First mention on these boards August 2011: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=38922.0So yeah, some time ago.

Why don't you add it to cgminer?

And on that note it's just started working at full speed again...
(but for how long?)

K, I've been staring at the LEDs for a while.
I see there are 2 nonce LEDs (one for each chip, presumably) I see that (looking at my other units) they should be synchronised... Well they're not on this one. Sometimes they work normally and come on at the same time, go out at the same time, off for a very short time than back on. Sometimes only the outer one comes on, then the LED goes out for a short time then back on. Sometimes the outer one comes on, then after a few seconds the inner one comes on for a second or so, then both go out for 4-5 seconds.
And as with JWU, the front light remains solid lit at all times

@BFL-Engineer - Thanks for the response! To your points...
1. The "nonce light" is not blinking - it will completely turn off for, as I said, up to 12 seconds. Not blink - turn completely dark. Even though Easy-Miner selected the 832 FW with auto-tune, I have tried using that, 808 and now 768. With every FW the same issue. Again, speaking of the "nonce light" and NOT the front facing "throttle light".
2. Maybe there were some pool issues as it didn't happen with Easy-Miner. I tried 3 different pools - still getting the issue. Also, if a pool issue, why would it be limited to one unit? I should see this issue with other units if it was a problem with the pool?!?
3. Unit was originally on a linux rig (with USB hub) and moved to windows rig (different USB cable and direct to MB) - same issues. Also tried BFGminer and CGminer - same issues. I am trying to be methodical to rule out all items...
Unit is running "well" with 768 FW. U of 9.66 - which is within the expected range based on the 768 FW.
I will run Easy-Miner again later, use that selected FW, likely see the light off issues again and will video it...
I'm seeing similar issues with one of mine. Haven't had chance to investigate fully yet though. About 1/2 the time it'll take over 7s... 5s with the nonce light on (as usual) then it'll sit for the remaining 2s with the light off. No blinking on any of the lights. I'm wondering if something happened to the heatsink. Though it's been fine for the last 2 months. JWU have your tried going back to 2.4.4 yet? I haven't.

except for Con's "workaround" which discards valid shares from BFL devices in order to avoid stales. Lol. It still discards them Re-check your code there Luke Care to elaborate? I did another look over the code and seem to have properly handled every case that discards work. OK, since you still haven't found it yet (I'm looking at git btw): restart_cond

Originally it may have been that, but times change...
The point it they've been working on the asic for a year or more.
Where's the proof? Huh? What you need proof for? Or do you take issue with 'working on'. I'll change that for 'planning'. Happier now?

Was it really known back then that the 'super computer' product was in fact a future asic or did that happen later?
Nothing specific was mentioned about it other than the name. From the inception of the website, there were always 3 products showing. Yeah, that is what I remember as well. I guess I just assumed that the super computer was just a bigger rig-box for more money, heh. Originally it may have been that, but times change... The point it they've been working on the asic for a year or more.

Actually, doesn't look like you can swap MTGOX dollars for Dwollar dollars, just BTC to whatever.

Somebody needs to create a website for these manual exchanges.
(no, I won't)

Re: Are all of the BFL power bricks complete shit? I don't know, I've never used mine. Wonder how much they'll go for on Ebay...? I worry about this. I also don't particularly want to have multiple power sockets. I like my ATX PSU powered setup.

It's a feature, not a bug, and it's been in the firmware of the Single right from the beginning. There's no reason to not use it, and you can't guarantee that a nonce was valid, especially after a longpoll. Lol. It still discards them Re-check your code there Luke

I'd like to chime in and say that after upgrading to CGminer 2.5.0, I'm getting an increased number when dividing DW by Q while solo mining. Doing this USED to get me ~ .003 - .006 in BFGminer 2.4.4. Now I'm getting above .01 on 2 different machines, both running Win 7x64. To be honest I'm not even sure doing this math means anything while solo mining, but it's what I've been doing to try and see how much work has been useless, and I can't see it being a good thing. Running 11 singles with a couple odd gpu's in 2 different cmd prompts across 2 machines. Do these numbers actually mean nothing when solo mining or..? I figured I'd post this just in case. Maybe it was for naught I don't think it means anything. AFAIK, DW is work requests that have been discarded for whatever reason. Work that has not be started, just retrieved from the server then thrown away. I typically get 10-15% discards.
