Place bets on the BTC and ETH price betting. Although I am gonna one of the bets but eventually it's gonna be an overall loss.
If only I had not bet on ETH this time then I would have been in profit. No worries though.

ETH price betting

sometimes luck can also be on the side of predictions not only playing gambling, I think if crypto prices can quickly recover maybe your bet on ETH will not be in vain, because seeing ETH prices rising so fast compared to other cryptos, to be honest I have never bet on price predictions like this even though I can analyze crypto prices, because prices can change at any time due to bad news or something else, but I hope you are lucky

ETH was around $1550 yesterday while writing the post and for it to go above $1750 it should have increased by 15% at least.
Now that's a huge spike to be achieved in just one day. Although not impossible but still very tough.
Anyway, I have lost the bet since ETH was in the range of $1500 - $1750 at the time of snapshot.
But no worries as we still have a long way to go and I might recover the losses in the February price prediction bets.
Did you see the rise in crypto today has increased enough even the price of ETH has risen 8% today, I think your prediction is right, no one knows about luck well even though there is still a lot of time, but I am happy to see the price of crypto go up today  Wink

Yeah right, if only this surge in price could have happened few days ago then I would have won the bet, LOL.

Also, the base rewards for free roll on freebitco.in has now decreased by 1 satoshi due to the surge in bitcoin price.
Current base reward is 8 satoshis.

1362  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So far so good with Bitcoin adoption on my side but I have question on: February 01, 2023, 03:46:03 PM
I wish there is a way that I can show families on here how successful I have bring numbers of people into Bitcoin between 2021 - 2023, it's been so great and I am very happy about it, I have fresh newbies at hand right now,  two of them are from the same university 🎓, I have spent 6 weeks with them teaching and answering questions about Bitcoin and wallets, now they decide to purchase their first set of Bitcoin.

Here is where I am confused, the present value of Bitcoin is growing, some said it's because of the Chinese New year Holiday aka Year of the Rabbit, since I got mine at 17,000 and 15,000 I feel it's wrong to tell these newbies to buy at 23,000$

Have I done the right thing by telling them to wait for some correction before buying or you famz have a better idea? Because right now I don't see anything thing better than to wait, double bottom is always possible with Bitcoin in bear markets.

You are doing a great thing by spreading the word about bitcoin and it's tech but I guess instead of telling them to buy at this price you can educate them more.
You can educate them to trade and teach them the basics about it. After that it will be their call whether they should go ahead or not.
This will take you on a safer side and nobody can blame you for their mistakes while preaching you for your teachings.
1363  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Main Stream Media trying to defame Crypto / Bitcoin on: February 01, 2023, 03:37:22 PM
Tell me something new, LOL. Mainstream media is an attention seeker and crypto has a lot of attention in the market  Cool .
When the media doesn't have anything new to talk about, they find out something related to crypto and brings it into limelight.
We all know the amount of scams related to crypto. There's always something happening in crypto.
This is why the media can't get enough of it and keeps talking trash about it.
1364  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Crypto Market on the Rise, But Proceed with Caution! on: February 01, 2023, 03:28:42 PM
It's true that despite the negative reputation that crypto assets have, they have been performing well in the beginning of 2023. Bitcoin, as an indicator of the overall crypto market, has risen 27% since the start of the year, while the S&P 500 has only risen 2.6% and gold has risen 5.4%. However, it's important to remember that the crypto market is still in a bear market and the bottom has not been reached yet. The editor of Daily, Teeka Tiwari, is a long-term bull on crypto but he advises caution and patience in the current market. He believes that there are several negative factors that need to be worked through before the long-term rally can restart.
It's important to be aware of these negative stories and to not let the bear market trap you.
It's also worth noting that the crypto market is still relatively small, so it's not necessary to make large investments to see significant returns as the market improves. It's recommended to be cautious and to focus on incredible buying opportunities when they arise. Despite the current market conditions, the future of crypto remains promising, with institutions like Fidelity launching new bitcoin products and more favorable regulations in countries like Brazil. Over the long-term, the outlook for crypto is positive.

Well said mate. I personally think it's the time to monitor the market closely and wait for opportunities to buy/sell the coins.
Looking at the charts I think we will see a correction in the next few days followed by a good spike in the prices.
If that happens then I guess it will be a good time to place our buy orders when the market recovers from the correction.

1366  Economy / Gambling / Re: Gambler Loses 1.4 million USD in a bet with lower than 1.01 odds! on: February 01, 2023, 03:17:27 PM
The wise gambler will go for better odds like 1.5 or more, the best I have known lies in the range of 1.5 to 2 odds. Going for higher odds are risky while going for lower odds more than 1.2 is a way to lose your money in bank very soon because with low odds, you will want to use big amount of money to play bet and even if you win 5 or more times, 1 big loss will make you lose all you have won and your money. What the person will think later of is to add more money to bet again which he will lose again.
Correct, but I think @2.00-@2.50 odds is still quite safe and you can maximize your profit. Some people usually tend to choose parlay option by betting huge favorite team/fighter, so the odds will be high, rather than betting on single match where the odds is only @1.10 or less. As long as you know the sport has higher chance where the underdog pull an upset, you will make a lot money.

Anything more than 1.98x is more risky for me. I have seen many people losing their bets at 1.99x.
I think 1.98x is still safer. Anything less than 1.10 is a lot riskier. You are basically going all in for just a mere 10% profit which is insane.
Just to make a 2x gain you will have to place 6-8 bets considering you are compounding your bets.
So the ideal range for me is between 1.3x to 1.98x. I generally place all my bets inbetween this range.
For the 10% what OP have risked is very big. For this he should've spend 10% on the roll. Whether it brings win/loss is secondary, but he couldn't have experienced such a massive loss. As suggested, if 10% is spend atleast he could've tried to recover if the roll has lost. The above user's choice is good, and when it comes to gambling we should not think about the loss once it happened.
Lesson to learn is not to be overconfident with your chosen pick even the chance of winning is high, you are still inside gambling and losing is not impossible to happen.
This is just the same experience I had last year during Qatar 2022 world cup, the game between Argentina and Saudi Arabia is where I learnt the hard way never to be over confident in a team when placing a bet..
I went all in on Argentina to win that match, but unfortunately, they ended up loosing, I lost all my money, a few thousands of dollars, Infact, if I had millions, I would have probably lost it all because I probably would have betted everything so as to increase my winning amount.

Oh man, what a match it was. I won't judge you for going all in with Argentina because I would place a high bet too.
But yeah, I wouldn't have gone all in because I never do. Yet, the outcome was really shocking since Saudi Arabia won the match being an underdog.
We all have learnt our lessons the hard way and I guess this bet mentioned in OP is the hard lesson for that man.
1367  Local / India / Crypto expectations from Union Budget on: January 31, 2023, 03:46:16 PM
Just came across a recent post on Instagram where it mentioned that we can see a little relief on crypto taxations in the upcoming Union Budget.
While earlier, there was a 30% tax imposed on gains from crypto as well as TDS on every transaction, now there are talks that we can see a little relief on these.
All these are just rumors till now and only the official announcement from the government can be considered final.

1368  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is it true that this AI is good for trading? on: January 31, 2023, 03:19:18 PM
I keep seeing videos on Youtube related to how good this A.I project called ChatGPT is very good trading and we all know how unreliable those YouTubers are, so I bring this on here instead, have you use this A.I project for trading yet? Any one?

UPDATE

Sorry guys its actually OpenAI not ChatGPT

snip

Relying on AI for trading would be the biggest mistake of your life. Currently AI is not so well established.
Chat GPT is still far better than any other AI models but still it has a lot of room to grow.
Current AI models are not very capable to help us with trading. We can use it for reference but not for actual trading.
We have to make sure we are doing the trades by ourself and not relying on any AI models for that.
With time, these AI models will get better and may be then we can reconsider this topic.

Betting on Ethereum is never a wise idea since they moved to PoS last September.Since then the activities and the price of Ethereum has not been a lot and most of the time this coin looks stable without much investors support anymore,at least not from guys like us who love the PoW coins much more. For Bitcoin which will never go PoS and this is as sure as death is for everyone of us,we can bet on the price as a lot of market factors can influence its price with lately being the rate hikes of different central banks or when a big huge firm start some involvement with it,while for Ethereum since going PoS I highly doubt one great firm will be investing in it.

Well I personally think Ethereum has a lot of room to grow. The reason it has not been showing a lot of volatility is due to the bearish trend.
Now that the trend is reversing we have already seen ETH jump from $1100 to $1600 lately.
After the PoS change in Ethereum, many companies are showing interest in it since it has become more scalable than ever.
Keeping the debate, aside talking about ETH price I guess it wasn't a wise idea to go bullish right now on it after all.
Even BTC is having a good resistance around $23k. Lets see what February has in store for BTC and ETH.

1372  Local / India / Re: No issue with cryptocurrencies in India if laws are followed: IT Minister on: January 30, 2023, 03:39:51 PM
The only reason why there is so much uncertainty currently is because crypto is becoming famous among the youth.
Now that the elections are near, government won't do anything that breaks the youth's trust on government.
I guess this is why they are planning to give some relief on taxation to the salaried class in the upcoming union budget.
RBI has so much hatred against crypto because they simply don't have any control over it.
Anything which they can't control is their enemy. So the chances are there that there will be harsh rules against crypto in India.
1373  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin hits 500 GB size hard disk data on: January 29, 2023, 12:43:31 PM
Ideally, put at least chainstate on SSD, and use 4096 MB dbcache. With those settings, any modern computer should be able to sync the blockchain within a day. Assuming your internet connection can handle it.
1TB is enough for many years to come.

I have a good internet connection with a speed of 100 Mbps. I have a Western Digital 1.5 TB HDD which has around 40 MBps write speed.
Yet it took me a good amount of time to download the whole blockchain. I used to keep it running in the day time and shutdown by night.
It took me around 2.5 days to sync the data completely. I was running it on a raspberry pi 400 due to which I think it took time.
May be a better configuration PC would have downloaded the data faster.

Talking about SSD, what I have heard is that it won't matter much if you have HDD or SSD because the internet download speed and system configuration will restrict the speed of downloading the blockchain data.
So I thought it would be better to use a HDD instead and save cost on it.
1374  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Medical student wins lottery 5 times after embezzling graduation funds on: January 29, 2023, 12:29:49 PM

Too little was said about the personality of the woman. It was said she is a very intelligent person, although being private and quiet, doesn't share details of her personal life with classmates.

If she was an intelligent person she wouldn't have gambled her classmates' money at the very first place.
Secondly, she thought she would get away with it just by saying she lost the money.
This makes it easy for us to guess that she was not an intelligent person but an over confident gambling addict.

Quote
It's a shame on her that she used her classmates' money to gamble and lost it.
Just think how hard they must be earning the money and paying for the graduation fees.
How can she even think of betraying her classmates and their emotions and especially their studies.
I hope the police takes strict action against her and makes her pay all the funds lost.
She must be imprisoned and pay for her mistakes.
Now imagine such an irresponsible and egoistical person was going to graduate and become a medical to take care of human lives. Imagine the kind of professional she was going to be...

Exactly. She doesn't deserve to get a medical degree. Her nature speaks about herself.
Such a doctor could have a dangerous impact on other people's lives.

1376  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: do not invest in crypto from loans. on: January 29, 2023, 12:02:51 PM
Some people claim they don't see anything bad in taking loan to invest in crypto, how come? Because panic and emotional is part of the game, how can your mind be at peace when you knew the money you invested is not yours? You won't be able to have peace of mind, whatever is happening on the news about crypto you will always want to know, because its a risk you aren't ready to take, you take loan because it's your only option left.

Those people take the loan mostly because they are over confident that they will beat the market and gain profits out of it.
But crypto is highly unpredictable which is why many times these people lose their money.
The problem is not taking the loans but paying them back with high interest rates.
It becomes a major problem when the trader has not used a stop loss or has not taken an exit from his trade.
He keeps losing money and eventually sells off at lower prices or has to keep holding until the prices recover.
The banks benefits from such situations where the person is not able to payback the loan for a longer time since heavy interest rates are then imposed on the loan amount.
This is the only reason why they say NEVER take loans to invest in crytpo/stocks.
1377  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Anyone living with older people? on: January 28, 2023, 03:11:52 PM
See I have this problem, I am living with older people since I lost my parents at a very young age and I get so attached with crypto and I am making money out of it but the problem is my grandfather and uncles do not understand what Bitcoin is all about, believe me, I've tried to explain but they just won't get it. What can I do? They kind of believe that I am wasting my time.

How do one educate the illiterate about digital currency?

There are two ways to go from here.

1. Try to make them understand what you do.
2. Don't let them know what you do.

With the second option you won't have to go through the hassle of making them understand what you do.
Besides that you won't have to worry about the fact that they might tell others what you do.
You can simply say you work remotely as a freelancer and not explain the stuff you do.

With the first option you will have try to make them understand about bitcoin in Layman's terms.
You can also search online on how to teach bitcoin to children which will give you a better understanding on how to teach your grandparents about bitcoin.
The negative side is that the more people know you deal with bitcoin the more risk you attract towards your self.

If you still decide to teach them then you can refer these https://duckduckgo.com/?q=bitcoin+for+children&t=ffab&atb=v274-1&ia=web

What are everyone's thoughts towards my approach of conducting a final raffle?

That would be a good idea but the issue of no engaging posts would still remain. Still you can proceed with the raffle to end it once and for all.
May be if we our local board is very active in future again may be then we can restart the raffle at that point of time.

What are everyone's thoughts towards my approach of conducting a final raffle?

I am pretty much excited with your approach of conducting a final raffle. I used to wait for it in the past. Yes, I agree a lot of members have shifted to Telegram & Reddit but those who are here need to be active from time to time. I do not think that we do not have anything or any news to discuss on this board. A little bit of encouragement by senior members and Merit sources can again bring back members here.

You are right. Even I had been looking out on this board every now and then to see if there's any engagement but there was none.
Eventually everyone stopped posting I guess may be due to the low engagement.
I agree with you that not having any topics to discuss is not correct. We can keep discussing new topics since the crypto community is filled with tech.
The major problem according to me is that since there is not much engagement on the posts and not enough activity one would eventually lose interest in making new topics.
1379  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If you don't get the merit, the ranking won't go up? on: January 28, 2023, 02:34:00 PM
Yes.

You can read in this thread where you must have both activity and merit if you want to rank up Merit & new rank requirements.

It doesn't like in the past before 2018 where you can rank up if you only have activity, merit is a way to prevent from spammers and low quality post users. So if you don't get any merit, it mean you're a shitposter.

This is not true. Many sections have Merit-sources who do not hand out merits properly IMO. Just learn, read, and post what you can. Merits come with Knowledge and trust. Wink

Exactly. Just because one does not have enough merits doesn't necessarily mean he is a shit poster.
There are boards in this forum where there are not enough merit sources and not enough engagement.
Also, different people have different perspective and while one may like a post the other might not.
There can be reasons why a good post might not get any merit at all.
But I would say that we should make posts to get and give knowledge and focus less on the merits.
If a person will run behind merits then he will find it even harder to get them.
Just focus on the tech and keep making knowledgeable posts will easily get you enough merits to rank up.

A brazilian medicine college student diverted almost 200.000$ from the graduation comission's funds, which belonged to her whole class, to place high bets through the national lottery.

She won sometimes on short run, but after all, faced a huge loss and went into almost 40.000$ debt. After scamming the lottery, the police department was triggered and the investigation has started.

She was investigated for money laundering and embezzlement. Later on, it was discovered the funds' origin.

Meanwhile, the class students became suspicious about the situation after the woman told on her class Whatsapp's group funds raised for graduation were lost after she invested it in a brokerage firm and was scammed by it, but no further documents and evidences could be provided, because everything was robbed!

Since then, no more updates about the case have been shared on the news. It happened about 2 weeks ago.
