142  Other / Off-topic / Re: [POLL] Donald Trumps IQ - let us know! on: April 27, 2020, 10:40:46 AM
The problem is always when people are stupid enough to think they are smart, when patently they are not.

There is an inability in the human mind to conceive what it would actually be like to be smarter.  Therefore it is easy for anyone to believe they are as smart as it is conceivably possible to be.

This becomes dangerous when insecurity or narcissism means someone shuts off doubt and humility and is somehow able to convince people to give them some responsibility.  In Trump's case "I am wealthy and therefore successful* - and I am on TV" seems to have been what worked.

The Donald's IQ...  Less than his shoe size?

OK, realistically - in the 70s if he took a test.  I doubt he is that mentally functional to get anything higher.

*this is doubtful, he was left a lot of money by his father and has a string of bankruptcies and massive debts.

The member is been paid !!!!!

Can confirm that I have received the prize money from The Dude! Thank you for this game and it is really a huge help in times of need. 75% of the winnings would be donated towards the creation of PPE (personal protective equipment) for my colleagues @ the hospital that I'm working on.

Stay safe everyone, and stay at home as much as possible!

Well done you and props to the dude for another comp - this one is a winner TWICE over!

My nephew has recently been expressing interest in knowing more about how the financial markets really work. It's nice to see him thinking for himself and expressing scepticism about the system. But I don't have much time at the moment to sit down with him and explain the corrupt relationship between the Fed, banking system, govts, QE, etc. etc. Any recommendations for something which I can direct him to which explains this all for a bright teenager who is already suitably cynical of mainstream media?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PHe0bXAIuk0

Starts ELI5 easy, then gets much more sophisticated, but it's good on how money and the economy works.  Also shows cycles and explains a credit crunch and the balance between printing money and getting right (or wrong).

See what you think, but it's a start.

It doesn't explain the abuse and rampant Wall Street skulduggery, mind, but you'll find more that do, I am sure.

So beards are the solution to the crisis.  Seems they're on everyone's er... lips?

Actually the real crisis is that the kids are home all day  Roll Eyes
Can't wait till summer when they are out in the woods for hours each day  Grin

A little of what we fancy is not the worst way to spend time, I hope the sun shines sufficiently for you soon.  Beard efficacy report not necessary.

Indeed, thanks. And no worries Smiley

I'm willing to sacrifice mine if it feeds someone.

As a bonus there's loads of food already lurking in it already. The recipient can expect some week old smoked salmon, oodles of raw liver and a pan fried tumour from a retired police horse as an extra special treat.

Hmm, i wonder which wine would fit in this case...

A decent claret...?

Hard choice. Smoked salmon would go with Rosè or dry white, heavy oak'ed merlot with the liver and for the tumor i'd probably prefer some warm sake.

I was seduced by imagining the perfect way to wash down the retired police horse tumour.  I'll grant you sake is an option, but I have always found a good claret for such a fine delight is good for me.  Or just glug down an amorone, it's usually strong enough to cope with fresh beard.  But each to their own, sir!

If you're prepared to give it away free, then perhaps it's an example of the new community spirit that is uniting us all.  It's just like the war.

Actually I am now feeling patriotic.  No more stubble, not now - I am going to grow one too.

Sounds like a winner, I feel a beard auction coming.

Have been baking my own bread for years (thanks Panasonic) and it also makes pizza dough. Since a few years I'm ordering beard flour in 25kg bags. (I put 1/2 in smaller bags in the freezer). I keep graded cheese in the freezer too. Together with canned/frozen vegetables I did shopping every 3rd week and can now stretch that to two months without much effort. Supermarket is fine here but I try to minimize the number of visits anyway.

How many beards can you make from a 25Kg bag?

Now is not the time for FUD...   Now is the time where we all need to come together, to support one another and share our common heritage. I dont care of you are religious or not..I am. I have always been a man of deep faith and I can not tell you how grateful I am to be here...at the Wall...with all of you. Thank you.

Just be able to share this experience..even virtually..with other human beings is such a comfort to me it is actually hard to express and put into written words.

I hope you all take the time to reflect on how your actions or inactions affect those around you. This is history in the making..its happening right now..as you are reading this.

Why am I posting this?  The Pope gave a speech tonight in St. Peters Square...and its empty. Just think about that for a moment. Drop the bs..drop the rhetoric...join the human race.

I am not a religious type, Toxic, but I do appreciate humanity and a lack of shouting bluster.  You've been missed.
155  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: March 23, 2020, 11:50:01 PM
Hey, we are going through a system-shattering event that has seen crashes in stock markets not winessed since 1931.

Banks are printing money worldwide in unprecedented amounts. Bitcoin's over $6K and Monero is sitting at what... $43-ish as I type.  I am not worried one bit and here's why...

Just think:
Bitcoin was created in the crash of 2008/9.  Satoshi quoted the Times about bank bailouts in the Genesis block.

Bitcoin was designed to be hard money without third party control... for a time he foresaw. A time. Just. Like. Now.

Sure, the world crashing because of a black swan event made all markets jittery - and the dash-for-cash in Wall Street (and the rest of the world markets) meant institutions liquidated assets to have cash on hand.  They were scared and needed it for margin calls etc. and were probably a big part of the reason for the Bitcoin dump. I know it wasn't the OGs who sold. Not after hodling all through the winter, so close to the halving.

The fundamentals of Bitcoin have not changed, but the macro-economic climate for it has just got… better.   Fiat devaluation with eye-watering money printing and maybe even a credit crunch still to come (as some countries struggle to keep their sovereign issuance afloat) means Bitcoin must ultimately benefit.  It was exactly what it was designed for.

Monero came later than Bitcoin, as has a huge increase in awareness of privacy issues. The fundamentals haven't changed for it either.  Countries are taking more powers right now and will want more monitoring and control than ever, it is inevitable.  Right now we reluctantly accept it as necessary - but they will always want more and right now we aren't watching, but ever-increasingly, they are.

So just when the system which Bitcoin is the answer to is collapsing, and we are all being told to stay in our homes, not even free to roam the streets; we are in sight of the future we worried about, the future we needed Bitcoin for, and the future that we need Monero for.  And it's coming right at us.

Selling now?  Giving up now?  Not me.  Not while I live and breathe.  This is when we need exactly these very tools for our financial security and our freedom.

Price will follow, of course it will. Be patient.

Interesting views.

Anyone talking TA at a time like this is a prize twat.

Don' be hating on their religion. They might sic the SPLC after you.

The cross-the-pond aspect only makes it that much more germane.

gentlemands posts are lyricism, effectively.
hating as an art form is not exactly hate. It's just an expression.

You're right about the gent's lyricism, well spotted, sir.

But I am pretty sure he meant the TA comment.  And he's probably right.

UK lockdown just announced.  With laws on going out, all non-essential shops to close etc.

No mention of group sex, but it's pretty draconian.
