141  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: July 20, 2018, 03:38:23 PM
Anybody know where aminorix is? He is out?

Possible he adjusted his future predictions and sold out, waiting for new generation blockchain projects to throw money at.

No. I sold a little between 420 and 300 on the way down, but since 200 and through the bottom I have been a net buyer, looking toward the 600 to 1k range in 4q18 or 1q19.  After a nice blow off top I may sell 1 or 2% again, but never all at once.

I haven't really been tracking this much since now is the time for waiting and quietude. I am focussed on angel activities for the time being.

XMR added to Ledger at recent, but Ledger didn't release the official app as other cryptocurrencies. Do you think in 4q18 or 1q19, Ledger will have the official announcement about adding Monero to their platform? And will that news can become the reason to increase the price of Monero? For me, I really hope the price of Monero can come back to $400 in the remaining days of this year Grin

Ledger functionality has been out for a while now. Some are rumbling about how the app has moved out of developer section into the main section today.

Here's a reddit post by Ledger CTO giving a SoonTM timeline
https://www.reddit.com/r/ledgerwallet/comments/8zbvcq/is_there_a_date_for_when_monero_is_live_on_ledger/e2i8kz7/?context=3

Yes Monero is now fully functional on Ledger same way as all coins were till only recent.  Ledger introduced Ledger live then where Monero will be included latter.  I had not used thsi Ledger live yet, but as I saw you acces all coins in same wallet. Instead as before you had to open wallet of each coin you had on your Ledger wallet.   But as I said. Monero on Ledger is now same as was Bitcoin or any other coin a month ago

Is there a way to download the Moneo wallet for the ledger? I can't find it on their webpage: https://www.ledgerwallet.com/cryptocurrencies

I don't think so. If some other projects will do their plans IOTA will die. What it have exclude capitalization and promises? Holders and empty github. And their DAG realization have bugs also

From my perspective, that argument can be used the other way around. If you look at the top 10 coins, there is just no need for TRX, LTC, ripple/stellar (one of them is enough) and neo. Bitcoin cash is also useless.

I mean, in the end it's about adoption of use cases. Barely anyone of them have that

I think he means those lower tier ERC20 coins claiming to be for the IOT, but don't even have testnets up. The very claim that DAGs have issues is a testament to how much work those coins will have once they are in actual use. While IOTA is working through those issues, those coins haven't even found them. The idea that they will come out of their preproduction stage without any issues  and instantly compete with IOTA's network is laughable--it doesn't work that way and the previous poster is either disingenuous or naïve to suggest so.

IOTA is interesting and has some features that fix some areas that are holding Bitcoin back, manly scaling and fees which cause significant set backs.

Will there ever be a new Bitcoin? No I don’t believe so. Bitcoin has a few things that would be truly hard to create ever again.. anonymity of the creator, strength of network and first mover advantage.

Anonymity of the creator means no one person can be influenced or threatened. This makes it truly decentralised.

POW coins cannot scale to the amount of tx needed for IOT (it's more than visa levels), so all three points are moot for Bitcoin and other POW based networks. AFAIK, IOTA has first mover advantage in IOT among crypto networks, so that point actually goes to IOTA in this case.

Whoever is doing it, please stop making new accounts and shilling your bag on this thread--it's the third fourth time in the last day and it's getting annoying. I report them and they're removed, so you waste my time and the moderator's time, and if you actually have better things to do, your own.

I don't remember a lot of things. Thanks for the reply.

I'm with you on that, I'd still give it a try.

I don't care if he's insane if the card works.

Isn't insanity just refusing to let your node accept a local/regional/global state? We all aren't working with every network, so some networks would label us crazy, so someone who is crazy just hasn't found the right network or is like, "Fuck off, I'm my own network and you can take it or leave it, but I'm not opening my port to that garbage."

This is how I feel when I argue with maximalist BTW.

Things of note: Curl-p is being replaced with a light weight hash function being developed by third parties and will be scrutinized by some current IOTA critics as well as others. Ecosystem will soon start funding projects (can see projects here: https://ecosystem.iota.org/discover/projects ) . Hub IXI is being actively tested by exchanges and might (I stress might) be released by the end of this month.

The potential of IOTA is still great. As the field of IOTA is the industry of the future, recent news suggests IOTA is at the starting line.

But it is too long on this line, and there are many competitors. Do you think that IOTA can grow very much? I believe there are more promising projects.

It's just a metaphor--IOTA's beta, but most projects claiming to be for the IOT are still ERC-20 tokens and don't even have a testnet. IOTA has a live network with real world testing and handles millions each day without a single fee; they are also working with the EU and Taipei on their smart city initiatives, with Bosch and VW and many other fortune 500 companies on IOT initiatives, with the UN--and IOTA's even in the running for Sweden's digital E-krona initiative. I don't know what your research practices are, but this stuff can all be googled, so don't let random people spoon feed you information that may or may not give you an accurate picture--including myself, as you don't know anyone on the internet and most have agendas, especially when it comes to a market that will likely be in the trillions over the coming decades.

https://blog.iota.org/green-light-from-the-eu-commission-for-iota-and-the-european-smart-city-consortium-cityxchange-f7928aef33ac

On 6 July 2018, the +CityxChange proposal was formally invited by the European Commission to become a new smart city lighthouse project, under the “Smart Cities and Communities” call of the EU research and innovation programme Horizon 2020. The proposal was given excellent comments and scores by the experts, and rated among the very best among the eleven competing proposals.

For the next five years, the cities of Trondheim, Limerick, Alba Iulia, Pisek, Sestao, Smolyan and Voru will experiment on how to become smart positive energy cities, that use digital services to improve quality of life for and together with all of their citizens, generate more energy than they consume, and exchange experiences with cities across Europe to learn faster, together.

Under the leadership of the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), these seven cities will develop and test new solutions together with an impressive list of 11 large entreprises, 9 SMEs, 3 non-for-profit organisations and 2 universities, covering the entire value chain: IES R&D, Powel AS, University of Limerick, Energy Agency of Plovdiv, Future Analytics Consulting, Research2Market Solutions, ISOCARP, TrønderEnergi Kraft AS, ABB Norway, ATB, AVIS Budget Group, Statkraft Varme AS, ESB Innovation RoI Ltd, ESB Networks, Ove Arup & Partners SAU, FourC AS, R.Kjeldsberg, Smart MPower, Space Engagers, Colaborativa, Officinae Verdi, IOTA Foundation, NHP Eiendom, and GKinetic Energy Ltd.

IOTA is a quite promising project, and I think it's a good Idea to invest in it now, while the price is down on 1.15$. Till the end of the year, it can easily go back to 2$.

2$ you say.

well ok, but if we get another run up on BTC end of year, which is on the cards, IOTA could be well over $8 i would say.

Not to mention the institutes already interested, and waiting for regulation in 2019, we could see IOTA in the coming years at $50....and im talking EASY!!

many people are underestimating what this is, i talked to a professor today that was saying ETH is in the coming years, will FAIL, and if it failed, it would just be added to the IOTA network, and reframed.

If that happen, hoooo...leeeee......chhhhhiiiii.....

I know it might take yes, but iota at $40-$50 is going to make some people rich and others happy.

It's funny because CFB created the POS Ethreum plans to implement to solve some of its issues, maybe they can borrow ABRA and fix their language functionality too--though Qubic will have a long lead by the time that happens.

NextDrive Lianqi Technology, a Taiwan-based energy IoT innovateon team , recently announced that it has partnered with the decentralized ledger technology startup BiiLabs to invest in energy blockchain applications, aiming to create Asia's first “ instant green energy trading platform” . NextDrive has made great achievements in the energy field in recent years. It relies on the independently developed world's smallest Internet of Things gateway, Cube, to help users save energy and successfully enter the Japanese power market, and has obtained orders from many well-known power plants including Central Power.

"Users understand electricity" is only the first step. The real goal is to let real-time green energy trade and move into your daily life." NextDrive Lianqi Technology CEO Yan Zheyuan said firmly. Unlike most of the block chain applications, NextDrive the cooperation with BiiLabs, adopt a Tangle is the underlying architecture of the IOTA , to create a " block chain + Things" virtual energy trading platform, to lead a new shared economic and ecological.
IOTA has recently partnered with many international companies such as Bosch, Fujitsu and Foss Motors for its recently high-profile blockchain technology solutions. Recently, the IOTA Foundation also signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Taipei City Government Smart City Office. Zhu Yizhen, co-founder of BiiLabs, said, “The special thing is that it solves the major drawbacks of the past blockchain wasting energy, slow transactions and the scale of application cannot be effectively expanded .”

NextDrive saw the “ e-commerce opportunity” in Japan’s annual output value As well as the increasing demand for energy trading after the liberalization of electricity, the plan is to create an energy trading platform based on the IOTA blockchain to solve the dilemma of past information asymmetry in energy trading, complex contracts, and low transaction efficiency.

The electricity sales operators, solar power generators and general households who join the platform will be able to conduct real-time trading of electricity through mobile phones on the information-transparent energy exchanges, without having to improve the information closure problem as in the past individual inquiry. The decentralized book transaction can not be tampered with, it will effectively protect the rights of buyers and sellers, but also eliminate the complicated contract signing and time-consuming manual review process. More importantly, IOTA can solve the problem that the past blockchain is difficult to handle. And the drawbacks of frequent trading.

NextDrive Linked to the energy blockchain platform to create a new sharing economy
of “IOTA+Internet of Things” to make the flow of electricity more efficient, and the long-established Taiwanese new venture NextDrive Technology in the energy field decided Introducing IoT technology into the IOTA decentralized book with universal usability, and using energy as the first breakthrough, intends to bring energy transactions to your daily life.

NextDrive has been in the Japanese energy market for many years, and the main product Cube (IoT Gateway) is widely acclaimed in Japan. It can be connected with smart meters to analyze the power consumption status of homes and the power generation efficiency of solar power generation. Understand the "value of electricity."

In Japan after the liberalization of electricity, private power trading is commonplace. Especially under the promotion of the government's decentralized power grid, buying and selling electricity has gradually evolved into a model similar to general commodity trading. However, under the existing mechanism, because there is no unified energy trading platform, the buyers and sellers still have difficulties such as information asymmetry, complicated contracts and low transaction efficiency.

By combining IOTA and the Internet of Things, NextDrive is expected to build a blockchain-based energy trading platform to solve the innate difficulties of past energy trading and solve the problem of the past “small transactions".

When the small transaction problem is solved, it means that the Internet of Things application can be actually popularized in the blockchain. As NextDrive plans to build an energy trading platform, I believe that in the near future, more and more related services will come to the fore, and this means that blockchain applications are beginning to slowly enter everyone's life.
The new decentralized book IOTA

IOTA without miners and no energy waste is based on the new decentralized bookkeeping technology Tangle. Unlike Bitcoin and Ethereum's blockchain mechanism, it uses “Block”. The “Chain” decentralized autonomous operation network adopts a user verification mechanism, so the commission of the miner verification can be saved, and the blockchain data is not tamper-evident.

In addition to the need for miners, another advantage of the Tangle architecture is "more immediate trading." Currently, Bitcoin can only complete 3-5 transactions per second, while IOTA can complete more than 30 transactions per second. The user verification mechanism, so the transaction speed will grow positively as the user increases. Faster trading will help to apply in the field of small transactions. After all, if you just buy a cup of coffee, most people don't want to spend time waiting for verification.

Through BiiLabs' technology, it can effectively assist more applications to quickly and easily take advantage of the blockchain without having to build a complete set of technologies and teams from scratch.
IOTA's instant, suitable for small transactions also brings more possibilities to smart cities. The Taipei City Government signed a memorandum of cooperation with the IOTA Foundation at the beginning of this year, and plans to introduce IOTA into the “Digital Citizen Card” as a citizen identification, electronic voting and more Internet of Things applications.

Klaus Schaaf joins the IOTA Foundation: https://blog.iota.org/welcome-klaus-schaaf-to-the-iota-foundation-5e823b8b91e1

Dr. Klaus Schaaf has been with Volkswagen AG for almost 30 years, mostly in research areas and promoting edge technologies. Most recently Klaus has worked in Volkswagen Group Digitalisation, founded by IOTA supervisory board member Johann Jungwirth, on new products and services. One of the areas has been Software-over-the-Air (OTA) and application of Distributed Ledger Technologies in the automotive world. During this time he came across IOTA and its superb technology and initiated the proof of concept which was shown by Volkswagen at CeBIT2018.

During the early 2000s Klaus built up the Volkswagen Electronics Research Lab (ERL) in California as Research Director. There he scouted for new technologies which eventually found their way into cars. Together with Stanford University the ERL built Stanley, the autonomous car which won the Darpa Great Challenge in 2005.

Later Klaus was Director of “Wireless Wolfsburg”, the first public City-Wifi in Germany where a lot of new applications for automobiles were tested. Wireless Wolfsburg later became part of one of the e-mobility test fields in Germany and of BIG IoT, a European project to enable IoT ecosystems....

no! have you ever seen to another zero fee coin ?  Grin
i know one, the more decenrtalized than IOTA and undervalued

If you are talking about nano, it's completely unsuitable for IOT and isn't a competitor for M2M. Let's be honest, paying < 10 cents for a Bitcoin tx isn't breaking anyone's back, it's when those tx are in the millions that a feeless structure means anything--humans don't transact that much, but 20+ billion IOT devices will (with heavy % going to countries and governments who own the devices and will save millions yearly on fees--this accumulates as the device pool grows and will reach billions, especially for smart cities, auto fleets and shipping), and that's why IOTA is designed as feeless and scalable. Nano's developers had the right idea, but applied it to the wrong problem.
