141  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: MtGox2014Leak.zip on: March 11, 2014, 03:20:18 PM
you have to remember that if this data is real it does not include data from Beginning of Mt Gox nor dos it include any data from from the last three months of trading.

Lots of missing and dirty data.
Certainly but still interesting bits. All BTC withdrawals are included from 2011-04 until the end. Though it seems not possible to link these to userIDs which might make it difficult to search for certain users withdrawals.

I've not had the time to dig in deep enough to determine any correlation between the data sets.

I'd be most interested if btc w/d could be tied to blockchain transactions by timestamp + value.  matching timestamp will be tricky.

Two Bit Who??

This is a huge move for the Bitcoin Foundation.

http://www.coindesk.com/dc-veterans-jim-harper-amy-wiess-join-bitcoin-foundation/

The Foundation has already established itself as the goto source for all things bitcoin in Washington DC.  This will further solidify that standing.

With the addition of a PR rep look for foundation member making high profile media appearances and hopefully some more positive press.

144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: BCBB? Bitcoin Business Bureau? on: March 11, 2014, 02:26:44 PM
That is something DATA is trying to do.

http://info.datauthority.org/wordpress/

Also the Bitcoin Foundation Just hired major players in Washington.  A lobbyest and a PR Executive.  That could be good news.

I think we need a grass roots, decentralized, peer to peer group.

If anyone is interested PM me.

hell even a bank wire in dollars doesn't meet the requirement.

Because there are already reports accessible for auditors, regulators and law enforcement for all bank wires.

The csv files are save.

Just don't open the Tibbanebackoffice.exe file.  That contains a bitcoin stealing malware for MS and MAC

I'm guessing if the location is unknown they are using a default longitude of 0° and a default latitude of 0°--where the prime meridian and equator cross.

He's doing it again.

https://twitter.com/BenLawsky/status/438335784358531072

I don't understand why he calls both the currency Bitcoin and companies like MtGox ''firms''.

Because that is who he regulates, "firms" or businesses that transact in virtual currency in or with citizens of the State of New York.

Well it would seem so, most of the time he says firms are things like exchangers. But then if all he's regulating are the firms, why does he ask

''The question, then, is should regulators require that licensed virtual currency firms only use public ledgers?''

What's happening there, did bitcoin  suddenly become a firm, would he require cash to have a public ledger now, does he want to crap on the fungibility?

Good questions.  No easy answers. (unless you are a crypto-anarchist Libertarian!).

The historic data is almost certain to be lost (to the US Federales) anyway unless Mark destroys it,

Are you kidding.  The Feds already have that entire database.

The Robocoin ATM is capable of printing out cash for your bitcoins, and does so in Vancouver WITHOUT ID verification I might add!

You are welcome.

Buy the  way I believe Robocoin in Canada scans the veins in your wrist to uniquely identify each user to maintain anti-money laundering limits.
158  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: Understanding KYC/AML laws on: February 23, 2014, 09:16:12 PM
  • The person who sold their coins comes to the machine later, puts in their code and the machine prints out that buying person's cash.

I think there would be a problem with this in most countires.

That is effectively "money transmission" and there are actually about as many definitions as there are states in the union for that term.

FUCKING HILARIOUS!

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to repost this!

I have not looked at those ATM, do they trade BTC for dollar? If it is just dollar for BTC is is nothing different of a coca cola vendor machine.

You can not send Coca-Cola instantly around the world through a decentralized, distributed trust network.
(although if you knew the formula - you could sent that - and they could make their own).
