why is the public key of my bitcoin address  on blockchain.info   130 character while the scriptPubKey on bitcoind is 50 characters?

967  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Just had 39.70 bitcoins stolen from blockchain account! on: May 26, 2013, 08:54:42 PM
If your btc value is high store an encrypted back up of your wallet.dat file or a paper wallet in another location.  (bank - work)
968  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: SELLING ฿TC FOR USD IN MAIL on: May 26, 2013, 06:07:02 PM
I'm glad to do escrow.  I just need the two parties to confirm the terms of the deal.

How the two parties choose to transact is up to them.

I will hold coins as proof of ownership/and guarantee of delivery.

Once I have confirmation completion of deal terms of both parties  I'll release coins to the receiving parties.

(and I don't think pyrex is a scammer - as has been suggested to me and I've seen posted in the Scammer thread)

Pyrex.  Don't let me know or I'll come after you with a VENGEANCE!

969  Bitcoin / Press / Re: 2013-05-22 RT Crosstalk - Bitcoin Ecosystem (Amir Taaki rules the show) on: May 26, 2013, 04:58:11 PM
Amir is a character and as such he will continue to be asked to comment on bit coin related stories especially as sensationalized bitcoin coverage expands on outlets like Russia Today. He is certainly a passionate young man who has been actively involved in bitcoin for as Lon as I can remember.

What kills me about this recent coverage involving Amir is that it portrays bitcoiner as hyper-political crypto-Anarchist plotting the take over of the worlds financial system form abandoned squats in London.

Then there was the recent headline "BITCOIN HACKED!" in response to the bitfloor compromise and most recently "DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY SEIZES DWOLLA" in respond to the recent DHS seizure if Mt Goxs Wells Fargo account (used to trasnfer funds between their Japanese bank and Dwolla.

Anyway prepare for more bad and sensationalized reporting and as much as we love to hate him more bitcoin color commentary from Amir.
970  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buy on BTC-E and Sell on MTGOX on: May 26, 2013, 03:55:02 AM
Did you wire to OK Pay from your bank account or MtGox?

Because if it's from your bank account then the loop isn't closed. My bank charge $15 to receive a wire. Or maybe it's possible to do MtGox --> OK Pay --> BTC-E directly?

Great experiment. Thanks for sharing.

Ahh true.  I wasn't really thinking about closing the loop.

The initial payment was a $1000.00 bank wire to okpay from my US Citibank account at a cost of $30.00.

You know I didn't think of this but now I have to get cash back to btc-e or out back out to my bank account for additional fees!  UGH.

But I'll probably just but more bitcoin.

supposedly the Foundation had the whole conference professionally videoed which they are compiling with the accompanying slides.   Hopefully they'll release that soon.

973  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Can MintChip Be Used To Do Fiat Conversions To or From Bitcoin? on: May 25, 2013, 07:49:04 PM
We'll probably never hear from mintchip again.

It was evidently a crowded sourced proof of concept that came and went.

Using it to buy bitcoin was voted the most popular app in the "public" voting but it did not even warrant a mention in the contest

974  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Buy on BTC-E and Sell on MTGOX on: May 25, 2013, 07:07:26 PM
No doubt Gox is the most trusted exchange, but why take unneccessary risk, once i've finished trading I go to blockchain.info, make a paper wallet, print it, and the address is then automatically added as a watch address to my wallet, i then transfer money from Gox to that new address.
When I want to trade again I scan the private key off the print out, (I do this with my phone as it is quicker) which changes the watch only address to a full address, then I transfer the money back to gox again.
Only takes a minute or two once you know what you are doing, but I can sleep easy knowing my money is safe. The only delay is waiting for the money to transfer into Gos when I want to trade again.

fluidjax

Smart!

Don't want to try to log into gox some day and see that you can't get in or you no longer have access to you $5000 or $10,000 or $100,000 bucks!

975  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Tangible Cryptography, LLC files for registration as MSB on: May 25, 2013, 06:59:40 PM
Clearly Tangible Cryptology is doing everything right.

Viceroy I have no idea who you are what you do except my first impression of you as some dude on the internet with a bad attitude.

However if you are another bitcoin business or just a bitcoin proponent I don't understand what you are getting out of this attack.

Many bitcoin businesses and individuals are talking and working together to as an industry to help understand what this regulation means to us all.

And for what ever you think of the Bitcoin Foundation, a number of the largest bitcoin players have banded together and for better or worse (I'm not going to debate that [yet]) to help guide the industry forward and to hopefully effect future regulation and legislation.

And I'm sure you have many responses that that so anyway....

check this out.

https://robocoinkiosk.com/#news

this is essentially a guys Graduate Thesis (he walked with his masters degree the day the conference opened - great story).

They launched at the bitcoin conference in San Jose and it was one of the hits of the show.

This was also popular.

http://www.coindesk.com/lamassu-robocoin-bitcoin-atms-show-their-stuff-in-san-jose/

While regulation will be a hurdle for any bitcoin business these two had product that actually worked, that people were able to use they were both very popular.

977  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Trust on: May 25, 2013, 06:24:15 PM
engage other user in conversation.  People will read your post to find out about you.

Are you all up in the trading/lending forums looking for loans etc

or are you in the dev-forming asking questions about the protocol

or somewhere else learning and engaging about the community.

If you want to trade just ask some one.

you have have to send first or reveal personally identifying info

(just be sure you are trading with reputable members)

then when you have successfully traded besure you each credit the counter party

so that other can see that you are actively and honest trading.

Two of the most important things in bitocin are trust and your reputation.  They will be more valuable to you then all the bitcoin you can scam in the long run (even for pirateat40!).

good luck

ranlo

I agree

A key logger or local virus has just as much access to your local wallet as to your hosted wallet.

I think the bigger concern for hosted wallets is loss of connectivity and/or unscrupulous/incompetent/or just plain stupid business owners.

(None of which I think applies to blockchain.info who I regard at one of the best if not the best hosted wallet out there.)

But more to your point, secure, complex password, not used on any other site or service is essential.

Hopefully bitcoin will continue to develop more secure (and easy) short and long term storage options.

But you can't get everyone to do that.  Unfortunately (as we've seen here again and again) it take a few hundred or a few thousands or more of loss for user to take bitcoin security seriously.

I guarantee you every single person who has suffered a compromise has changed every password, made then unique and enabled 2FA where they can.  Untill then I guess it is just a cost benefit (time/benefit) analysis really.

what have you got to lose (except all your bitcoin).

979  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: [ANN] Tangible Cryptography, LLC files for registration as MSB on: May 25, 2013, 06:07:33 PM
Viceroy,

You are not a regulator nor a state or federal legislator (or are you??) so it does not matter what you "see" or think.   Legitimate business have attorney's and advisers to help them navigate this uncharted path and if they want to stay in business they will comply.  Others will close or be shut down.

I can't imagine that every legitimate bitcoin business (including bitinstant) is not scrambling to understand what the recent FinCEN guidance, MT GOX action  and/or additional regulation/legislation may mean for the future of their respective businesses.

For many of the bitcoin businesses this was THE topic of conversation at the recent conference in San Jose.

Regardless, TC is one of the good guys.  Why don't you go troll one of the many BLF threads, or better yet drive down to Texas and see if you can track down Trendon Shaver or something else useful.

Can't imagine why you have a stick up your butt for TC except that you are envious that that he is building a trusted, well-regarded and successful bitcoin business.

There is clearly a need for a self - contained bitcoin point of sale device and if you get it right it could be HUGE!  This is one of the BIGGEST pain point in greater bitcoin adoption, allowing merchants to easily and cheaply accept bitcoin as a form a payment at the point of sale.

(I don't know about you guys but I've seen more then a few Level-up devices popping up around the NYC area so clearly some business are interested in new technology.)

Regarding the google docs: You have a slick website, then you redirect to the google docs to sign up. I just seem a bit amateur  and detracts from the slick website we've just experience.

Finally the whole announcing a product that doesn't exist then asking member to sign up or worse (PAY UP FRONT)  just smacks of scam.

SEE the ongoing debate about BFL and now this SCAM

https://cryoniks.com/#!/app/tech/

It is my opinion that bitcoin business have to launch with a functional, and working product  and if not launch in private beta with friends and word of mouth to test and work out the kinks before you make a PUBLIC announcement.

Otherwise, in my opinion, you are just joining the ranks of other scam businesses or bored developers how banged out a proof of concept that never goes anywhere
