1401  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: August 02, 2012, 07:35:24 AM
After watching that interview, it would seem that if Zhou were to release a video of himself in a conversation with a 3rd party (Skype), we would be able to identify his voice easily.

I find it interesting how "financial loss prevention" was a perk to get people to sign up.  A "feature."

But where have I seen that hat before?

1402  Other / Off-topic / Re: I remember when _______ on: August 02, 2012, 05:03:16 AM
I remember when MS-DOS was the only OS available (to us) for the computer.  We still have the receipt for our Intel 80286 computer...  I should totally scan that and post it.  The computer is still in active use to this day, my parents have been doing their taxes on it for like 26 years, it's booted up once a year.  Playing games on the computer meant so much more when computers were just barely able to function.

hey! couple questions (which are probably answered elsewhere in the 142 pages but..)

- just saw the huge hashrate increase for you guys and i'm coming back! but i saw proportionate is gone and it's PPS only now?  Sad  oh well i'll leave it going and it'll probably work out better that way anyway.

- if i set my payout to pay my NMC out as BTC to me, and I look on the worker screen and it shows you your estimate payout in BTC and USD per day per worker, does that figure include my NMC payout in it?

- is there a difference between us.eclipsemc.com, us1.eclipsemc.com, or us2.eclipsemc.com?  either one is okay?

accepted & received!!  thanks again!  Cheesy
1405  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: URL service w/ thumbnail generation on: August 01, 2012, 09:44:50 PM
pretty neat!  but my thumbnail is over 1400 pixels high.  I guess BitcoinTrading.com is just too tall for thumbability.

I don't directly need the thumbnail, I can photoshop one but I am just providing input on the service: you should provide max width/height sizes and/or options of thumbnail sizes.

but great service btw! it works well!  the bitcoin trading wallpaper seems to be missing though.

I tried to create one for WTCR.ca but it failed?  I think the URL works but the thumbnail 404's.

I think your 404 page is awesome though.

Then I tried to create it again, and it worked the second time, but the thumbnail is totally wonky.

1407  Economy / Exchanges / Re: [ANN] Bitcoinica Consultancy abandons customers. Bitcoinica to enter Liquidation on: August 01, 2012, 09:32:32 PM
Rackspace?  I thought it was Linode?
Linode was one hack, Rackspace was another.
Wow.. They moved datacenters and everything.. Man, they should have fixed the site after the first hack, but too late now to give advice.

3 big hacks, in Canada we call that a hat-trick!  hack-trick?

1409  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: How is this legal? on: August 01, 2012, 08:24:01 PM
Bitcoin doesn't have to worry.  I'd be more worried about the companies on GLBSE.
1410  Other / Off-topic / Re: The real Internet map on: August 01, 2012, 08:18:30 PM
I emailed the author of that website last night all about bitcoin, he replied :

Thank you

I appreciate your advice.

BR,
Ruslan

Everyone should message him and tell him to accept bitcoin donations!

1412  Other / Meta / Re: The Bitcoin Forum should have Ads on: August 01, 2012, 05:46:02 PM
I think the forum would do excellent with an Operation Fabulous ad square.
1413  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Statement about the suspect of recent Bitcoinica hack on: August 01, 2012, 01:05:58 AM
@Zhou Tong  Would you please make a video of yourself telling the Bitcoin community how hard you are trying to resolve this bad situation.
Many people have difficulty with believing your are real when everyone admits they've never met you. Also, a sign with current date would be a help. We need to provide to the shady parts by bringing a little light into those spaces.
his twitter account pre-dating bitcoin (feb 2009) is proof that Zhou Tong is a real person.. well, as much proof as a twitter account could provide.

i think it would be a good idea to post some sort of video, but that wouldn't do much for proving innocence in Bitcoinicagate.

1415  Other / Off-topic / Re: Zhou Tong advertising on BitcoinTalk. on: July 31, 2012, 09:09:35 PM
@OP: Until Zhou is proven guilty of something, I don't know why you would have a problem with him advertising on the forums. Do you have a problem with Pirate advertising on the forums?
I don't really have a problem with it, especially if he's considered innocent, but even then it's really none of my business.  I thought shakaru was innocent and look how that turned out.  I just noticed that there was no current discussion thread about his advertising on here and decided to start one.  Maybe should have done so without the image.
1416  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: difference in shares among same cards on: July 31, 2012, 07:54:42 PM
or set up each card to have it's own worker on your pool, then use the pool stats to determine how many shares you have.

my next post is #1337!!
1417  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: difference in shares among same cards on: July 31, 2012, 07:53:56 PM
I've had that happen before.  It could be a disconnect that causes the share count to reset to zero on one card.  Try lower the clocks a bit and give it another 24 hours and see if it changes.
1418  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: HOLY SHIT BTC-E.COM hit $40 per BTC! on: July 31, 2012, 03:35:17 PM

This worries me.
Have they figure out how the password leaked?

It definitely was not brute-forced. In the best case, it was "guessed" or "dictionary attacked" if it was not random enough, and then changing it should be enough. But if it has leaked (what I find most likely), and BTC-e doesn't know how it leaked, then the same thing may just happen again.

The platform should not resume its operations before understanding what happened and taking measures for it not to happen again. At least Liberty Reserves deposits and withdraws should be temporarily closed, since that's what leaked.
Just in case, I would change my password if I re-used one from a BTC-e account.

Pretty well known that he's a student in Australia. Read some shit before you post. That's not to say he's not likely a pathological liar and thief (really don't know personally but his stories are pretty out there) but the signal to noise ratio around here is lousy enough as it is.
I have been reading quite a bit and I hadn't heard about the Australia thing until just now.  And I can sort of understand the 'Ryan' thing, sometimes foreigners take up english names.  But yea.  I just felt like commenting on the fact that he bought up all the ad slots at an astronautical price like he's a baller and the auction thread is locked.

Gotcha, I'm sorry, I am truly being a bit abrasive this evening but it did seem a well known fact to me from following the zillion threads relating to him. Consider this an official apology for being a dick though.

Cheers

mc_lovin is shockD by that heartfelt apology, which has been sincerely accepted!
