Are people actually getting 4-5% daily interest on lending BTC in polo??

Anyone try it? Is there a big risk of losing BTC?

100% risk to lose your BCC.

Yeah, have people overlooked this? Assuming Polo distributes BCC, it will be the borrower not the lender who receives the distribution, as happened with the ETC fork.

And the reason we didn't see the takedown page for a couple days is because of DNS propagation.

No, that's not true. The timestamp for the change was 2017-07-28 T17:52:07Z.

edit: apparently I should be writing this in Mr. Magoo font Wink
1423  Economy / Exchanges / Re: BTC-e hacked ?? on: July 30, 2017, 02:23:04 AM
ya right.  USA government has everything right now.  their "inictment" was from January 2017.  that . means they already got all the necessary legal shit to hack btc-e and prepare for this takedown.  they already had everything in place since the last 6 months

There certainly seems to be a case in this thread of underestimating law enforcement. These guys will have done a lot of groundwork and collected a lot of evidence for this case. This isn't just two cops in a panda car cuffing a guy.

This extended downtime is contingency to allow the August 1 fork threat to be fully ameliorated. All funds are safe and service will be fully restored

Spoken like a true Mt. Gox believer.

Bitcoins aren't really very anonymous, you can make it time consuming to track you by tumbling, but not impossible if someone has the incentive to do so. I imagine it will be very hard for anyone to actually use those bitcoins without their identity being revealed at some point. At which point they will most assuredly be tortured by hired men to hand over their crypto. Whoever stole the money just made thousands of enemies, many of whom still have significant amounts of money and know how to access the dark web.

Yeah, in your imagination. Fact is, crypto users will do fuck all except rage at their keyboard.

Well...it looks like it is at a GOX level again of FUD...looks like my btc 'hoard' is gonna go down 1/3 in paper profits probably....and a year to resolve if anything like the past

Ouch, sorry to hear that. I've always avoided having anything large on there, as they've always seemed shady to me.

I don't think the impact will be like Gox as BTC-e is a much smaller component of the whole market, but we'll see.

Should probably link to the original Reuters report rather than a seedy tabloid: https://uk.reuters.com/article/us-greece-russia-arrest-idUKKBN1AB1OP

or maybe that article relates to the bitmixer guy? how long has bitmixer been operating for?

Whois has the domain as first being registered in 2013. Can't seem to find references to it in 2011 either.

1428  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Poloniex verification my account is locked. Now found my coins have been stolen. on: July 26, 2017, 04:21:25 AM
I maybe should have advised you to freeze your account, because I had a suspicion you'd been hacked. Sad

No email verification message to alert me of a withdrawal.

With 2FA enabled, you can disable email verification for withdrawals. You should have received emails confirming this behaviour however. Most probably the attacker has simply deleted all incriminating communications from your email. He most likely knows your password, so you want to change that to something secure and unguessable asap. Also, make sure to use a reputable email service like gmail, not any small-time operation.

Hold on to your butts, here we go!  Shocked
1430  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 21, 2017, 11:28:26 PM
Yeah, I saw that too. Also the tulip mania only lasted for 3 years, and we all know that tulips are beautiful but otherwise worthless and plentiful. How that mania ever manifested in the first place is beyond me.

The most expensive bulbs were infected with a virus which retarded propagation, and I think prevented it after several generations. Despite the limited supply, storing value in organic matter that decays doesn't seem very smart.
1431  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 21, 2017, 11:05:12 PM
Crypto "market cap" means absolutely nothing.

I notice no-one who says this has ever put a coin in the top 10. If it means absolutely nothing, then you should be able to do it for ten bucks and be able to keep it there.
1432  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 21, 2017, 01:35:13 AM
If you have a gun, why food? There a plenty of stray cats, squirrels. rabbits, coyotes, beaver, etc near the creek. I'm sure that I can find plenty of plant stuff to eat in the woods.

I think quixotic is how I'd describe this idea of living a Grizzly Adams lifestyle in a post-apocalyptic world.
1433  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 20, 2017, 11:16:21 PM
So, to the superbubble we go then. Guess I should start piling into the shitcoins ready for the next round of mania.
1434  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 19, 2017, 08:30:09 PM
But what % of miners are actually running the btc1 garbage? I was under the impression that most miners were still running Bitcoin Core and not btc1.

Well, if everyone is running btc1, then im sure I know now why the price is not taking off to an ATH. We can't get an ATH if people are running shit code.

It should be equal to the number of miners signalling for BIP91, as Core doesn't signal for that BIP (unless, as bitserve mentions, they're running a patched version, which could be just as bad).

Another ether hack...roll it back?

Someone stole ~$32M (~153k ether) from three multisig wallets. More info and blog post coming soon.

Ha, was only a matter of time. Maybe all those clueless buyers will gain a little bit better an understanding of what it is they're bagholding. Should be much more difficult to roll this one back too if the funds are free to move (with the DAO the funds were locked to a single account for a several week period which made it easy).
1435  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 19, 2017, 04:49:41 PM
I have more than enough pause to go around if anyone's interested. Not that it's done me much good I guess

Is your pause pure? I don't want no watered-down shit. I want my entire body to be immobilised.
1436  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 19, 2017, 04:20:41 PM
I'm not worried about the hardfork. As you could see the last 2 weeks, the other side is completely incompetent in terms of coding! Core devs safed their asses 3 times, although they are not involved in that shieeet!
Let Jihan, Bitpay and all the other corporations fork off. They will regret it pretty soon after the fork and will come crawling back. This corporate takeover attempt of the ecosystem and the brand Bitcoin will fail!!

The fact that a $40B network is now running on BTC1 should give everyone pause for concern.

I personally don't like the sudden and extreme rebounds and drops we've been having

Which indicates we're in noob land, and noobs generally don't make money.
1438  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: July 17, 2017, 10:12:07 PM
if even you are a trustfull member and been confirmed in here i send them to you, just somebody around here long enough and been cleard by a few others

Sorry. As a rule, I don't do escrow and don't deal with other folk's bitcoin.

lol

JJG should match the 0.25 if micgoosens proves to be honest

just for being a doubting thomas

Tbh, I too doubt somebody who joined only three days ago making .25 or .5 btc giveaways. No doubt I will suffer from crippling solipsism now.
1440  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Help I'm locked out of my poloniex account on: July 17, 2017, 04:58:42 PM
It wouldn't surprise me if Polo had cocked up your account, but you might want to check the IP addresses in any recent "Successful Login from New IP" emails. Copy and paste the IP into a lookup site that does geo-location and make sure that the country matches yours.
