Can you please point me to the link to the source code of simplewallet on that page I'm not able to find it ?
Follow the instructions, simplewallet will be installed for you. I will update the page to make it explicit.
1442  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Changing PoW? on: June 13, 2014, 11:47:24 AM
Regarding this PoW thing: the only reason why we could need a new algorithm is if it adds more value than it hinders people. The only value I can think of is less energy and fairness of distribution (less of an advantage to ASIC or even GPU).

It is true that they can attract more people and they use less energy.

However as I manage to run even a X11 pool, I see that people pomp up their GPU for X11 mine, so it consumes energy as for a Scrypt, but it has more high hashrate that was required for a task.
With this, difficulty soon goes up and so mining for X11 require you use as the same energy used for Scrypt to get the same amount of coins.
Yes, I was having the same idea. That enrgy saving got evened out anyway. A variant of the rebound effect or the Jevons paradox.

It probably is true for Groestl and other, so essentially voiding the whole energy argument. So the only thing to be left in consideration is: does the algorithm help minimize the advantage of ASIC over GPU over CPU? CPU to GPU, scypt is manyX, X11 is 6X, Groestl I don't know and CryptoNight may be the best of all, but the GPUminers on CryptoNight are too young to draw any conclusion.

So, PoW change is still not a priority in my book.

Here is a linux binary: http://david.latapie.name/static/cryptos/GRW/GrowthCoin-Qt
Please check if it works on your platform.

And here's the oneliner for compilation and creating a shortcut on the desktop, provided you have all the required dependacies:
Code:
git clone git://github.com/iamunick/growthcoin && cd growthcoin && qmake-qt4 growthcoin-qt.pro && make && ln -s ~/cryptos/growthcoin/GrowthCoin-Qt ~/Desktop/GRW

unick, feel free to upload a copy on your server and to add the oneline on the OP
If any of you thinks this deserves some GRW, donations are much appreciated:

Regarding this PoW thing: the only reason why we could need a new algorithm is if it adds more value than it hinders people. The only value I can think of is less energy and fairness of distribution (less of an advantage to ASIC or even GPU).

X11/X13
+ requires less energy than scrypt
+ gives less of an advantage to GPU over CPU
- Easier to create ASIC for
Do X13 has advantage in these departements over X11?

Groestl
+ requires less energy than scrypt
+ gives less of an advantage to GPU over CPU
How does Groestl compare to X11/X13 on these departments?

CryptoNight
+ still GPU resistant (presently, GPU mining is less profitable than CPU mining)
+ Might require less energy than scrypt
+ ASIC? Well, probably forget it
How does CryptoNight

All PoW have the same issue: they may break things bad, something an established coin wants to avoid. The Myriadcoin route (you choose your algo) might be interesting.

But in any case, I do not see any convincing argument for changing the algo.
Full disclosure: I do not mine
=> good. But it seems to be to create ASIC for => bad On this, I see either X11/X13, Groestl or CryptoNight. I don''t know if X13 uses less energy than X11 (I think it doesn't) and CryptoNight

What's the average yearly profit (well, sort of, since JD is less than one year) on JD? I heard of 56% with coumpounded interests. Extrapolating from the last three months (14399 on March 1, 17550 on June 1), this would give 87%
If we were ruling out the Nawaka incident, what would be the % of profit?
Reason I ask is that I'd like to have BTC on JD to buy some other alt only with the profit. But for this to happen, I need to evaluate how many BTC I must invest to get generate the amount of profit I need to reach my target amount of alt to buy.

Thanks

1451  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TEKcoin PoS/PoW on Cryptsy! 30 days 40% Interest on: June 13, 2014, 01:40:05 AM
If it is this easy to get the 40% every month what can prevent inflation?

Short answer: NVCS

Long answer: NVCS (which stands for NoVaCoin Stake, initialism invented by StakeHunter, as far as I know) is decreasing stake. The more people stake, the less the interest. For instance, Novacoin was at 100% interest when it launches and it is now at 40%. The same way, HBN is at 100% and should be at 90% in one year, assuming as much people continue to stake as they do now.
This plus, as Thundertoe mentionned, people cashing out on price increase instead of continuing to stake (sometimes without even waiting for the end of the stake period, so essentially wasting stake - hint: use coin control to avoid involontary wasting).

is fluffypony a core dev for monero?
Yes, see Monero Missive #1 for the list of core devs.

Whats a good hashrate for CPU, and GPU, and how does profitability compare to other big alts right now?
See Monero configurations for the list.

Both links are on the OP too.

I am revamping the whole tutorial at the moment. Should be much easier later.

Edit: done, feedbacks welcome. Special thanks to http://xmr.hashinvest.ws/#getting_started for their Windows and Mac tutorial.

Can somebody compare boolberry and monero for me? Not sure what one's advantage is over the others. I see that monero uses CryptoNight algo while boolberry uses Wild Keccak..
Hi Stormia! Nice to see you there!

I must have less than no computer skills.  I downloaded Monero as all I needed to do was click.  I was following the MoneroTalk tutorial where it said after downloadimg (one of the 5 files they show is a zip file which I don't have, just the other 4) I am instructed to SIMPLY move the file to %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming.  After googling and searching for what would be the correct name of my USERPROFILE I came  up empty handed.  One hour gone.

On the Monereo site it basically says their installation instruction only work for Linux.  I had recently saved a link that explains dual boot with linux.  I just read it and stopped when they talk about partitioning my hard drive.  Am I to assume that using a bootable USB stick is easier?  If I am running Monero with linux can I use my computer in Windows as well?  I use my computer a lot during the day and must use windows.

First, let me assure you not being able to install Monero easily is by no means an evidence that you are not good at computing Smiley We are working hard to make it easier to install and mine monero.

Second, if you want to dual boot on Linux, you won't be able to use your computer on Windows at the same time. A better option is to run a Linux virtual machine on your Windows OS - no partitionning, no risk of losing data, you only have to download Virtualbox and Ubuntu 14.04. The downside is that, because of paravirtualisation, your computer will be slower AND your mining will be less effective than with a native, Windows client.

To access the folder, just open an explorer.exe window, click the address bar (I think ctrl+l works too, but this is from memory), remove everything in it and type this: %appdata%.

For more help, I suggest you to come to #monero on IRC (freenode server). A lot of people here can help you. If you don't have an IRC program, I suggest you install hexchat.

You seem to have an extra space between R and o in the address segment fHsGRoyZk3ES.
This is a known Simple Machines Forum issue. To circumvent it, use the code tag.

Don't be a dick-wad all your life mate. Get some fucking manners or get the fuck right away from me. I see right through your absent-minded bile.
So start by stoppind insulting people: dick-wad, fucking, fuck, absent-minded.

This will be my last answer to you and to be sure it will stay that way, I will just put you on ignore list (you can still PM if you want to tell me something constructive).

yes, it is. why are you even responding to me?
Why are you even posting on the forum?

I do appreciate what you bring to the table, but this kind of FUD without context is only harmful to the community and further promotion of the coin. If there is an imminent threat, we should be discussing it and possible solutions. All I can envision is a hard fork, not the end of the world, or a whale dumping their holdings, which would only create a buying opportunity for serious investors like myself. If there is some other imminent threat, please share it or refrain from such speculation. Also, if we want to get this coin on another exchange, like Poloniex, we need to avoid further bickering and affirm the developer. Just my opinion.
No imminent thread, especially if my suggestions are followed. I purposefully did not give any name because I don't want to damage when not necessary. Still, if enough people ask for it, I will reveal what I know - but reavealing could damage some person and I prefer to avoid it, especially considering the said person could very well take the necessary measures to fix the issue - and they would more willing to do so if I do not damage them first Smiley.
1460  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] TEKcoin PoS/PoW on Cryptsy! 30 days 40% Interest on: June 11, 2014, 01:29:25 PM
childish and petty, just gimme my super-stake and GTFO with this immature crap.
I want to know about the coin, not about the handbag fight. thanks.
First, if you just want your stake, why do you come posting to this forum? Just leave your wallet open 24/7 for compounding. You don't even need to know bitcointalk exists.

Second, a coin is a trust thing. People must be confident in the coin or they'll leave. The devs are part of the coin. If there is a doubt about the devs, there is a doubt about the coin. If there is doubt about the coin, people will sell (probably by dumping, because most people just panic sell in this case instead of gradually leaving a position like tokyoghetto explains) and if people sell fast, the price crumbles and potential buyers lose confidence (only a minority will "buy cheap"). Then the price enters a death spiral à la Novacoin.

And you super-stake 40% of shit.

So, this is still childish and petty immature crap in your book?
