1481  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer: BTC/USD Price Tracking and Discussion 2.0 (Unmoderated) on: July 01, 2017, 01:12:34 AM
Of all the predictions going around, this one looks the most realistic to me. Segwit activation and lack of a soft fork on Aug. 1 will result in a breakout of the pennant being created now.

I don't see the confidence or investor fortitude in the markets for this. My money is on a deeper test into the mid-thousands.

Nice. Will change my vote and approve of option 1 now.

You can now vote on the future of Wall Observer here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1993570.0
1484  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Chatbox on poloniex on: June 29, 2017, 07:24:01 PM
Who other than newbies will take a single word from the trollbox seriously? Originally, these chat boxes were there for traders to discuss strategies, sentiment, etc. It got rebranded to trollbox because these sites have been infested with newbies just burning down every quality discussion with pure gibberish. Nowadays they have no value, and thus should be removed permanently. Or these chat boxes should only be accessible to people with an account balance of +$10k.

I wouldn't mind a Leetbox. To view or post you'd have to have generated a certain amount of historical trade.
1485  Other / Meta / Re: Wall Observer Thread locked? on: June 29, 2017, 07:13:06 PM
What if I create an Off-Topic -> Chat section which doesn't contribute to post count, is ignored from unreadposts by default, hides signatures, and has some additional unpaid mods pulled from the Wall Observers regulars? It'd be exempt from some of the rules in order to allow for the chatroom-like style.

Hey, that sounds reasonable enough to me. Agree with Quickseller though - would be good to at least have a link back to Speculation.

Cheers.

No, it stops people from making off topic posts in there.

It is a superficial solution and deserves nothing more than derision.
1486  Other / Meta / Re: Wall Observer Thread locked? on: June 29, 2017, 11:04:38 AM
I think it defeats a significant part of the purpose if you move it to "Off-topic" because it was effectively the landing page for noobs who wanted to find out about price action with bitcoin (i.e. essentially all bitcoin noobs). This is how the bitcoin noob experience has gone for thousands ...

they go... google search bitcoin CLICK ->
.... hmmm, bitcointalk.com, yep, that looks popular want some of that goodness CLICK ->
... hmmm, Speculation (yep, that's what I'm really here for hehe) CLICK ->
....hmmm, what's this massive long-ass thread with millions of views, yep that's what I want to read WALL OBSERVER!-> CLICK bang, done, arrived \O/
... and down the bitcoin price discussion rabbit-hole they fall   Cheesy

The landing page effect of the rough 'n tumble feel yet warts 'n all authenticity of Wall Observer should not be underestimated.

The best solution would involve it remaining in Speculation, I agree.

And you're quite right in your other posts - the spam will just metastasize somewhere else. Locking the thread ultimately solves nothing.

when OP was active, he is also doing his work and spams were less iirc.

Don't think Adam ever moderated anything in his life. He was also pretty spammy himself at times lol.
1487  Economy / Speculation / Re: WALL Observer : Death and Rebirth of Prices, Crashes and Lifes. on: June 29, 2017, 02:04:50 AM
This message by Theymos explains the most recent locking of the previous Wall Obs. thread:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1990962.msg19827736#msg19827736

Indeed, if you have an opinion on the future of the thread, that's where it should be voiced. Personally prefer for the old topic to be unlocked and moved to off-topic, rather than rebirthing it in bastardised form here.
1488  Other / Meta / Re: Wall Observer Thread locked? on: June 28, 2017, 10:12:23 PM
Maybe it'd be OK from our perspective to move the thread to Off-topic and then let people use it as they wish, but is that what the posters there really want? I just don't get the point of the thread. If you want to talk off-topic, you can create multiple dedicated threads in Off-topic.

That would be a much better solution, thank you. I'd suggested this in the past.
1489  Other / Meta / Re: Wall Observer Thread locked? on: June 28, 2017, 06:03:33 PM
Because the op of that thread is no longer active and doesn't moderate off topic postings and as such it's now mostly full of idiots discussing alt coins day after day. Sick of seeing dozens of reports from that thread every day. Plenty of other pointless threads in Speculation to talk shit in. If you want to talk about alt coins then do that in the alt coin section.

There would have been more than enough volunteers to help you properly moderate that thread if you had inquired, but I get the impression from my own dealings that you guys aren't much bothered in fostering good relations with your members.
1490  Other / Meta / Re: Is Wall OBSERVER topic locked or moved? on: June 28, 2017, 05:27:11 PM
You should post this in the meta section. Thread here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1990962
1491  Other / Meta / Wall Observer Thread locked? on: June 28, 2017, 05:26:01 PM
I see that the Wall Observer thread in Speculation has been locked: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=178336

Is this intentional? This is one of the oldest and longest threads on this board, and part of the heritage of this forum. Banning it is sure to make more than a few people go "wtf..."
1492  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 28, 2017, 10:37:52 AM
you'd be better off nuking the computer's hard disk afterwards and then reinstalling the operating system just to be absolutely sure.

Yep, if it's an SSD, secure erase it; if it's an HDD then overwrite with random data - single pass will suffice.
1493  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 28, 2017, 10:27:00 AM

For the past six years price has done a good job of filling the gap. Only exception has been the $32 - $50 range.

Itīs like beeing Burger King lover, but instead of buying a whooper you waste your time talking to people at McDonalds what kind of trash the McDonalds food is.... Why donīt just grab a whooper and enjoy life?

I grabbed a whooper once, but I got mayo all over my hands...
1494  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 26, 2017, 06:32:25 PM
yeah, but Eth and Btc seem to be in sych, pulling each other up and down. It really looks to me that even though Eth is dropping faster, the bottom will be the bottom for both of them, then they're likely to rise together too

I don't disagree. Smiley
1495  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 26, 2017, 05:53:25 PM
Start of bubble: March, somewhere 900 bucks

But once we go back there investor's disappointment will never recover again, as it did in the Gox aftermath. This will just break Bitcoin's neck.
ETH will have to continue the story, developping the technology further.

ETH went higher on hype and will fall harder - "investor" disappointment there will be greater (and some of us are waiting patiently in the shadows ready to scalp), so expect to find yourself alongside all the other obituary writers during this downturn...
1496  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 25, 2017, 10:06:51 PM
You once had my respect. Anytime you post this kind of thing you lose some more.

Your disrespect is rather belated, as my mockery and tomfoolery have always been thus.
1497  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 25, 2017, 09:07:31 PM
At that point I think alts will start trading back into btc on every btc dip.

To some extent. I agree with Blitz, bitcoin dominance will increase, but price will still trend down due to traders exiting into fiat.
1498  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 25, 2017, 05:16:27 PM
What you all seem to be missing is that this smarmy shithead now feels totally justified in not pursing a higher education. A decade from now that will be just another putz who thinks he's got the world all sussed out because he doesn't know any better.

As opposed to a putz with a diploma? What was it Ambrose Bierce said, that education reveals to the wise and conceals to the foolish their lack of understanding?

p.s. It's not a purse, it's European!

I think I remember when this kid showed up on IRC trying to figure out how to buy some bitcoin ... then it came out that he was 13-14 and he said his dad was trying to talk him out of it saying bitcoin was likely a ponzi, stop wasting his time and money, etc, etc ... I said to him "don't listen to your dad, go all in and tell your old man he's a fossil and stfu if he doesn't understand it ..." ... lol!, everyone on the IRC was like "dude, that's just wrong, kid's only 13,he should listen to his dad, blah-de-blah" .... but I encouraged the heck into him ... probably helped make him into a millionaire.

Insert montage here of Marcus pushing the kid's bike, flying a kite with him, etc.

More seriously I can't generate an ETH deposit address and have opened a ticket about this, without answer for a few days. A ticket on their support site, not a "trollbox ticket", whatever that is.

You know ETH deposits are disabled currently, right?
